New Lineup for Saturday

DENVER -- Here's a lineup we haven't seen this year, with Uggla batting second for the first time since last season. Then again, Uggla has numbers (3 for 5, 2 2b) against Rockies lefty Jorge De La Rosa. Maybin sits again, even with newcomer Chris Coghlan out of the lineup. Have to wonder whether the Marlins really want Maybin sitting on the bench, or whether they have plans to send him back to the minors where he can receive the playing time and seasoning he probably needs. Coghlan is penciled in to play left on Sunday, with Hermida going to right and, I suspect, Ross in center.

Marlins: 1. Alfredo Amezaga, cf; 2. Dan Uggla, 2b; 3. Hanley Ramirez, ss; 4. Jorge Cantu, 1b; 5. Wes Helms, 3b; 6. Cody Ross, rf; 7. Jeremy Hermida, lf; 8. Ronny Paulino, c; 9. Josh Johnson, p.

I was just coming in here to post and ask you guys if you knew what the lineup would be for tonight and here it is: Once again, the useless and unamazing Alfredo Amezaga is in the lineup and batting leadoff. My question is why? He stinks at in CF and he can't hit the ball past the pitcher and is as unpatient a hitter as there is in baseball, should not be starting much less leading off. Now there are talks of sending Maybin down? I know he is struggling with the bat but I rather have him out in CF than Amezaga any day of the week. Are we sending down Boni as well since he, too, is struggling with the bat?

I am sick and tired of the sense lineup changes by Fredi and him being too caught in the matchups because it proves to be a bad route to go anyway. Fredi Gonzalez should be the one sent down to the minors, if not even better, he should be fired and told to take his buddy Amezaga with him. I am sick and tired of these two clowns. Tell me something?!

Paolo

By the way, I know you guys are scoring the game -- Save yourselves some time and just give Amezaga an 0-4 night since that is what he will do tonight as the leadoff guy as usual.

Clark

We haven't spoken yet with Fredi about the lineup, but I don't think trying Amezaga in the leadoff spot is any huge surprise. Nothing else has worked so far. Collectively, Marlins leadoff hitters rank 29th in the majors, ahead of only the Phillies, with a .284 on-base percentage. I'm not saying Amezaga is the ultimate answer, but his career on-base percentage out of the No. 1 spot is .327.

Javi

I think they should give Maybin a legit shot as a leadoff hitter. That was the spot where he hit .500 in September last season. Also, his glove is a necessity in the OF. I would prefer for Bonifacio to be sent down and put Coghlan to play 3b, which he has experience as. I know Boni's speed is great, but if he can't get on base, it is useless.

Paolo

I agree with Javi. I understand your point now Clark. Thanks.

Clark

Let's face it. Their options are limited. And they're clearly not enamored with the way Maybin has been hitting. So that leaves Bonifacio and Amezaga. Fredi Gonzalez said that Amezaga is batting leadoff today only. On Sunday, it'll be back to Bonifacio.

Paolo

There goes Amezaga with his first of 3 strikeouts in tonight's game. Lets hope Maybin gets back on track and given a real chance. I don't think Fredi has ever heard the phrase, or maybe doesn't believe in the phrase " If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If we win, that is all that will matter in the end but still. He wants consistency out of his players? Well, he needs to be consistent at better managing games and in-game situations.

Clark,

Wasn't a major offseason goal of the Marlins to get some guys in the lineup with the ability to get on base and not strike out every other at bat. Its looking like this team is too much like last season's feast or famine mantra. I mean what, a few hits to go with 10Ks against a marginal at best pitcher in De la Rosa?
Wow, the 2 teams I root for are earily similar at the plate; the Marlins and the Mariners.

Paolo

Amezaga 0-for- saturday as I expected. Hopefully tomrrow our real, and better option in CF both defensively and offensively in Cameron Maybin will be out there tomrrow afternoon. If anyone needs to be gone its The Mess, Alfredo Amezaga.

Russell

1 walk vs. 12 strikeouts. Terrible
