Anibal Sanchez is headed back to the disabled list. The right-hander's shoulder acted up Thursday during a bullpen session -- two days after he came off the DL and struggled for a start that lasted just three innings.
He'll be replaced in the rotation by Ricky Nolasco, who will likely be recalled from Triple A New Orleans and start Sunday against the San Francisco Giants. In the meantime, the Marlins are bringing back right-hander Cristhian Martinez from Double A Jacksonville.
"I don't want to be on the DL, but my shoulder is still bothering me," Sanchez said. "They're doing the right thing."
Sanchez has been battling shoulder problems since the 2007 season when he underwent surgery for a torn labrum. Since going 10-3 with a no-hitter in 2006, Sanchez has been limited to just 23 starts due to shoulder issues.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sanchez would not throw for the next four to five days before being allowed to start up again.
