LAKE BUENA VISTA -- A few quick hits from Edwin Rodriguez's press conference here at the winter meetings:
On his 1-year contract and the rumors that White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen could be poised to take his place after this season: "If I don't do my job, it could be Ozzie. It could be anybody. But, if I do my job, I'm pretty sure good things might happen."
On shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who has texted him several times this offseason: "We're going to need his leadership. I think Hanley Ramirez is going back to his 2009 form. (Last season), he was hurt. His pride was hurt."
On his projected lineup: 1. Chris Coghlan, cf; 2. Omar Infante, 2b; 3. Hanley Ramirez, ss; 4. Mike Stanton, rf; 5. Logan Morrison, lf; 6. Gaby Sanchez, 1b; 7. John Buck, c; 8. Matt Dominguez, 3b
On his projected rotation: 1. Josh Johnson; 2. Ricky Nolasco; 3. Javier Vazquez; 4. Anibal Sanchez; 5. Chris Volstad.

I don't like Cogs batting first personally, I would put Infante first, Cogs second, Hanley third and Stanton or Gaby fourth.

If Cogz start slow again we have two solid #2 hitters in Morrison and Sanchez and he come go lower in the batting order. Either way on paper it seems solid. As always it comes down to execution.

I don't know if Cogs has the range to play CF. In my opinion they are going to need to find a true CF. Coghlan was still learning to play LF before he was injured, and although he showed vast improvement - he is not ready to play CF. Another left handed bat would be nice.

I agree on center field too. I think we have to find or deal for one. Stanton is one heck of an athlete, not sure he could do center or not, but maybe it's worth a try. I like to see cogs bat with people on base ahead of him. We seem to have a very versatile line up though, so thats one you can tinker with.

The marlins are not going to get anyone good to plat CF. They are not going to pay the going rate. So, it will be Coghlan. If he does not work out, it will be Bonnie. They only care about the bottom line. Now, the Uggla deal looks like a bargain after deals in Washington and Boston for 7 years

COGS SHOULD BE THE REGULAR 2ND BASE FOR MARLINS, HE CAN'T PLAY CF BECAUSE HE RECENTLY UNDERWENT KNEE SURGERY AND MUCH SPRINT EFFORT ARE NECESSARY TO PLAY THIS RUDE POSITION. MARLINS SHOULD LOOK FOR A DECENT CF THROUGH A TRADE OR FREE AGENCY. INFANTE AND TOP PROSPECT DOMINGUEZ SHOULD FIGHT FOR THE 3RD BASE POSITION

INFANTE SHOULD BE THE BACK UP FOR COGS AND MORRISON, REMEMBER, HE CAN PLAY 2ND AND LF TOO AND COULD BE PENCILED AGAINST LEFTIES.

STARTING PITCHERS ROTATION FOR MARLINS SEEM VERY GOOD. NOW MANAGER RODRIGUEZ SHOULD BE SMART DOING LINE-UP BATTING ORDER BECAUSE HE IS RELUCTANT LIKE FREDDY IN MAKE CHANGES WHICH IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY TO PRODUCE RUNS; RODRIGUEZ SHOULD IMPROVE THIS STRATEGICS.

IN MY OPINION OZZY GUILLEN IS THE TYPE OF MANAGER MARLINS NEED AND RODRIGUEZ AS BENCH COACH IF YOU WISH TO WIN MORE THAN 80 GAMES IN THIS SEASON.
