A rough spring for Matt Dominguez got worse for the young third baseman on Friday when he was hit by a pitch, fracturing his left elbow.
According to Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest, Dominguez was hit by a pitch in a minor league game between Triple A New Orleans and Buffalo, the Mets' Triple A affiliate.
A preliminary x-ray revealed a fracture at the tip of the elbow, Beinfest said, and Dominguez was being taken to a doctor for further examination.
"Not good," Beinfest said.
The Marlins were hopeful that Dominguez would win the Opening Day job at third base. But he hit just .190 and was sent back to the minors.
Donnie Murphy started at third for the Marlins in their season opener on Friday.

I like Donnie Murphy, but can we go ahead and trade for Michael Young now?

Opens the door for a Michael Young or Eric Chavez move that would be an adequate one-year stopgap.
