Marlins catcher John Baker chimes in on Collision-Gate

LOS ANGELES -- Back at Dodger Stadium this morning where it appears the fire department has extinguished the blaze that sent smoke bellowing over the diamond throughout the course of last night's game. In case you didn't see it, Marlins center fielder Chris Coghlan had the funniest line when describing his reaction when he first saw smoke in about the fifth inning:

"I could smell that smoke and I was, like, 'Gosh, that ain't no hot dog stand,'" Coghlan said. "Then I saw this huge puff, and I thought, 'Oh my gosh, this place is on fire."

Turns out the fire was contained to a storage area and was never a real danger. The game was played without interruption. But it resulted in the re-location of fans in several sections of the upper deck to another section of the stadium.

So here we sit on another splendid day in southern California, preparing for Ricky Nolasco to take on his favorite boyhood team. Still waiting on the lineups, and I'll post those as soon as they become available. In the meantime, check out John Baker's take on the Scott Cousins/Buster Posey collision. As always, Baker is articulate and insightful, and his words carry some weight considering that he is both a catcher and a teammate of Cousins.

Anyway, you can check out his take on matters by reading here.

     Lineup:

     Marlins: 1. Coghlan, cf; 2. Ramirez, ss; 3. Morrison, lf; 4. Sanchez, 1b; 5. Stanton, rf; 6. Buck, c; 7. Infante, 2b; 8. Bonifacio, 3b; 9. Nolasco, p.

K-Man

Baker nailed it.

Baker is ALWAYS ARTICULATE.He went to Cal.I believe he should be the Marlins color man.Too bad that there have been pitchers who have come back quicker from the surgery that Baker had.The man CAN hit but he wasn't able to throw out anyone when his arm was fine. Make a 1B out of him and he can be a bat off the bench and also give Gaby a blow. Once again--He CAN HIT, however, he never could throw.

Samson's Boyfriend

If Baker can come back healed and healthy look for him to take Cousins spot on roster as lefty off the bench...

SAME OLD SHEET, MUTTLEY

Hanley the Mutt wimps out of line-up with alledged lower back stiffness..BS.. this shortens the bench, limiting Edwins moves...how long are they gonna put up with his tired ACT??

Lou Vales

Note my comment yesterday how this situation could blow out of hand if Nolasco FINALLY had a bad start that everyone is entitled to.Bullpen could be screwed going into Arizona.

You make a GREAT point on Hanley. Mikey will start to nail you now. He's got that Hanley poster above his bed.

SAME OLD SHEET, MUTTLEY

Nolasco has to take one for the team. Period. I'm dreaming that Beinfest is working a blockbuster trade involving Hanley...I Have a Dream Someday...

Marlins Bad Adventure in L.A

Marlins are playing like their on vacation in L.A visiting friends and relatives, having a good ole Home weekend..Lots of mental errors and playing Flat on Friday and Today..

Ricky must get abused because of nothing existing in the minors. Not 1!!!!!!! single pitcher is capable of starting a game.I appreciate Morrison, Stanton, Coghlin BUT that is NO reason for there not being any pitchers. NOT ONE!!!

Cishek stays in and finishes this game and then tomorrow he gets sent down and another reliever gets called up to protect against farther repurcussions of what occured yesterday.

Lou Vales

Shelling Cisheks by the seashore.kid has actually looked good but Dodgers may have just called off the dogs.

Lou Vales

It should not have to happen after that bullpen saving performance but Cishek probably gets sent down tomorrow in order to bring up a fresh arm. The Marlins should pay him his major League salary through June for what he just did.

I have a new nickname for Wes Helms---"Quickly It's 0 and 2", has a nice ring to it. When some of those balls leave his bat you actually think he has hit it well until you see the second baseman settling under it.
