PORT ST. LUCIE -- Giancarlo Stanton was removed from today's game after being hit by a pitch in the area of his left hand and wrist. Stanton trotted to first base after being plunked by Mets pitcher Chris Schwinden but was taken out immediatley after being examined by the Marlins' trainer. The initial report on Stanton was that his wrist was bruised.
Stanton was hit nine times by pitches last season, most on the Marlins.
On Sunday, Stanton was plunked immediately after Schwinden entered in relief of Mets starter Johan Santana in the third inning with the bases loaded and two outs. The RBI was the first this spring for Stanton.
