LAKELAND -- If you haven't already seen it on YouTube, MrSand0080 posted this video of the Marlins' home run sculpture in all its water-spouting, fish-spinning glory.
The funky contraption is supposed to debut and be operational for the public when the Marlins host the Yankees on Sunday in the first of two exhibition games at Marlins Park.
Hanley Ramirez was the first Marlin to hit a home run at Marlins Park. But who will be the first to set off this thing?

WTF?

You've gotta be kidding me....I've seen better science projects in the 5th grade.

The thick gold chain with the horn comes to mind.

Damn it! WTF! Everything else looks great but this is terrible.
Posted by: GOLD | March 26, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Looks like it was made for some cheap 5 block parade float!
Posted by: Rodeovyn | March 26, 2012 at 10:53 AM
This thing is in a word...atrocious. Every other aspect of the new Marlins' stadium is outstanding, but this thing has to go!!!

place for younger women and oldermen, or older women and younger men, to interact with each

What an embarassment...a over-sized pinata in center field and dancers at baseball games. Hopefully this thing will explode...never to be seen again.

This sculpture ( wouldnt use the word sculpture) is horrifying !
Posted by: Vanessa | March 26, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Lame.
Posted by: Bob Greasy | March 26, 2012 at 12:47 PM
This is ugliest at its best!
Posted by: Santiago | March 26, 2012 at 12:49 PM
This disgusting display should take away some of the negative attention the Dolphins are getting! Could it be any cheesier...ask Jeff Ireland or Stephen Ross, I'm sure they could help out with that!
Posted by: Dolphin Fans | March 26, 2012 at 01:04 PM
Did the Marlins steal this from the It's A Small World ride in Disney? Everybody sing, "It's a small world after all..."
Posted by: Lew Zealand | March 26, 2012 at 01:37 PM
I don't understand, is the crowd supposed to be extra excited when this thing fires up? It just seems plain stupid.
Posted by: Fish Fan | March 26, 2012 at 01:44 PM
I will boo Marlin home runs as long as that thing is around. How delusional is management! Whoever is the genius who looked at this and said, "I like it!" should be tarred and feathered like they used to do in the 1700s.

Love it love it love it!! By far this will be the most talked about HR celebration in the history of baseball! It really is so strange that it fits Miami beautifully. The cups half full for me. I can't stop laughing at it and keep watching the video. Holy crap is that thing GAWDY! Look how many responses are on here...I think it achieved its purpose.
Posted by: Flagstafffishfan | March 26, 2012 at 04:04 PM
Live with it and enjoy Floridians..If Ozzie likes it everthing is good !!from a new Marlin fan. Because of Ozzie and Buehrle !! YES . Will be a fun ride through the season.

I think it is very deserving and representative of the third world nature of El Marlins, El Miami and the slimeballs who have destroyed that once great city. By the way, just wondering when "Hoodie Give-Away" night is? Would it before "Free Taco Night" or after "Mug A Citizen Night"?
Cheesy, embarrassing and classless. Effin' losers.
Posted by: El Chimpo Presidente | March 26, 2012 at 04:43 PM
Not surprised.
Third world city...third world, ugly sculpture.
Ahh...remembering the OLD MIAMI, when this city was great.
Now, a Banana Republic South American slum-town!!

WTF! WTH! OMG! WTF! WTH! OMG!
That's why we are known as the banana republic, REALLY who's fabulous idea for this contraption was it!?!?!?!
Posted by: AMc | March 26, 2012 at 04:52 PM
Flagstafffishfan REALLY achieved its purpose, what to humilate the CIty of Miami, I"M SO GLAD THAT I LEFT EYARS AGO! I only visit once a year and taht to see my mother, other than that you can keep the place that I & my son were born, this is so embrassing, and tacky, that's why folks can't stop looking at it and are Laughing ther BUTSS off, ONLY in Miami can something like that be approved, paid for by taxpayers and thought of as "art". WTH! WTF!
Posted by: AMc | March 26, 2012 at 04:55 PM
I love it. Most of these posters have no imagination and no vision. Loria has the guts to do something new. It's going to look awesome when a Marlin hits a homer. Nice job Mr. Loria. Go Marlins!
Posted by: SUICYCO | March 26, 2012 at 06:58 PM
ARE U KIDDING ME?? IM ALMOST GOING TO HATE SEEING GIANCARLO RIP SOME OUT OF HERE, KNOWING THIS HIDEOUS CONTRAPTION WILL SET OFF. HOPEFULLY THEY DON'T TELEVISE IT ON NATIONALLY ON ESPN OR MLB NETWORK.

Sooooo Wimpy!
Posted by: OldNSlow | March 26, 2012 at 08:26 PM
the epitome of Miami tacky. I hope someone starts a petition to have this removed.
Posted by: armandolio | March 26, 2012 at 09:27 PM
What kind of $^#+ is this? This nonsense is really going to take away from what will otherwise be a great ballpark. So embarassing! Couldn't we just call it enough with the fish tanks behind the plate? Whose idea was this? C'mon!
Posted by: Wish it wasn't so! | March 26, 2012 at 10:59 PM
People just don't appreciate art when they see it.
Don't like the sculpture? Well, don't look at it. It is as simple as that.
By the way, what does art commissioned by an American (Loria) and made by an American artist (Red Grooms)have to do with a Banana Repubilc? Those comments only show hatred and racism hidden behind the anonymity the internet provides.
Posted by: Andres | March 27, 2012 at 09:15 AM
Its funny to see the same person writing those entries under different nicknames. Yes, it is ugly and tacky and you (whomever you are) already made your point. If you don't like it or don't want to see it you have the choice of not watching the games. I don't like this sculpture but its not going to stop me from going to the games. And answering Clark's question: Hanley will set it off.
Posted by: Flav C | March 27, 2012 at 09:17 AM
WTF!!!!! I haven't been here much because the last time I posted something some turd was more interested in calling people names than having a legitimate baseball conversation. Now I come back and this post has 31 comments while the other baseball related posts have no more than 10. Really pathetic.
