LoMo not in lineup -- as planned

CINCINNATI -- A lot of tired faces inside the Marlins clubhouse this afternoon, and for obvious reasons. The team didn't get out of Miami after last night's game until 12:30 a.m. and didn't get to their downtown Cincinnati hotel until 3:45 a.m.

Meanwhile, here in the Queen City, they're revving up for their 136th Opening Day. The festivities include the traditional Opening Day Parade downtown, which is taking place as I write. In addition, as I was walking to Great American Ballpark a few hours ago, the downtown church bells struck up "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at noon sharp. Swear to God....Was hoping to grab a 4-way at Skyline Chili on the way in but, with so many fans milling around for the Reds opener, the line was out the door.

Today's Marlins' lineup is the same as last night's, with one notable exception. Chris Coghlan will be starting in left instead of Logan Morrison. Manager Ozzie Guillen said that decision was made long before in an effort to go easy on Morrison's sore right knee. Morrison said that, even after playing last night, the knee felt good. But Guillen said he doesn't want to take any chances, and so will continue to give Morrison a day here and there. He said he'll try to do the same with Giancarlo Stanton, who has his own knee issue.

On another note, Stanton said he thought the second of his two warning-track shots last night, the one to right-center, was a homer when it left the bat and probaby would have gone out in any other park. But, with the roof open at Marlins Park, the ball died and was caught by Jon Jay. Most everyone agrees that the park is "death valley" as far as power when the roof is open, but seems to play fair when it's closed. The roof will pretty much be closed every game once we get into May, if not before.

With that said, here are the lineups for Game 2 of 162:

      Marlins: 1. Reyes, ss; 2. Bonifacio, cf; 3. Ramirez, 3b; 4. Stanton, rf; 5. Sanchez, 1b; 6. Coghlan, lf; 7. Infante, 2b; 8. Buck, c; 9. Buehrle, p.

      Redlegs: 1. Phillips, 2b; 2. Cozart, ss; 3. Votto, 1b; 4. Rolen, 3b; 5. Bruce, rf; 6. Ludwick, lf; 7. Stubbs, cf; 8. Hanigan, c; 9. Cueto, p.

Ah. I see The Whiffer is already cranking up the excuse machine. Real sluggers hit them out, regardless of how cavernous the stadium is. Giancarlo Stanton, Mike Stanton, whatever. A whiffer by any other name is still a whiffer.

Cueto has a no hitter through 3. Let's see how long it takes today!

2 hits....Buehrle looks good.

Think the bats were left in Jupiter?

Only one 0-2 team in the league, as of this posting. Guess who? What a sham of an offseason. Reyes, who is just as mercurial as Hanloaf. Buehrle, a junkballer lefty who has already been talking about retirement. Bell, a closer whom we'll never need since we'll never score runs but who has already lost velocity. But Pujols? Nah, don't need him. Cespedes? Nah, don't need him. Another great job pulling the wool over everyone's eyes by the Art Dealer, the Latent Lawyer and Beinsuck. Laff laff laff @ everyone who thought it'd be different.

Thats because they're the only team to have played two games. That makes sense I suppose. Judging from previous posts you should probably stop watching or you're going to die of a heart attack or stroke. This team will do that to you. Generally all the negative stuff comes around June or so. You just bypassed it all together and declared them losers two games in. I don't know if to be impressed or saddened by you.

With that said, I don't know where you got that Reyes is anything like Hanley. The guy has energy and doesn't ever seem to be in a bad mood. At least that's what everyone from the local and national media portray. Whether its true or not doesn't matter because it doesn't affect his game once he steps between the lines and it seems to be rubbing off on Hanley. I don't know what else to say other than its only two games. The Pillies scored one run and the braves didn't fare any better.

Agree Glags. Not much scoring around the league in general. Clark posted that they got in at 3:45 and appeared tired too. Not making excuses but will wait a little longer before calling the season a total wash....all doom and gloom after 2 games...c'mon.

Every time the Marlins lose a game I get so happy. Such a boring game. And the colors, it is so feminine. What a bad taste for a sport, jerseys, stadium. It sucks big time.

Stan III

Does F.T. ...ard stand for something?

Stan 3,
They say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything. My guess is, F.T. stands for facilus traditum, Latin for "gives up easily."

Not the start we all expected
But not surprised by the one guy who is bringing the poo poo to the parade.
How could you......your a guy who changes screen names to hide. Today its arrdawalawhatevr

With that said , with the hotheads in this locker room, confidence early can go a looooong way. They need to start hitting soon
