Stanton progressing; Ramirez still out

The Marlins are trying to avoid falling to seven games under .500 for the first time this season.

With the team in dire need of any offensive spark, it got some good news regarding injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton. An update Marlins executive vice president Larry Beinfest got from the team’s training staff said that Stanton is progressing as he continues to work his way back from knee surgery.

Stanton has been hitting balls off the tee and doing some light throwing for three days, and may be ready to take some batting practice at some point during the upcoming homestand.

Stanton, who had arthroscopic surgery July 9 to remove two loose cartilage fragments from his knee, is expected to miss at least another 2-4 weeks.

As expected, Hanley Ramirez did not start for the third consecutive game. Ramirez, whose hand was almost fully wrapped Sunday, is recovering from an infection on the cut above the knuckles on his right hand that he suffered July 8 in St. Louis when he punched a cooling fan.

Sanchez does sound like he's itchin' to get the hell out of town — regardless of the destination.

The Real Alex

I got a new nickname for Ozzie Guillen: Ozzie The Nose Picker! I can't even watch his Post Game interviews anymore; he's DISGUSTING. He just can't keep his fingers out of his shnozz!

Now I know how it is on a baseball field; I played a lot of baseball in my life and also coached, so I KNOW how the wind and flying dust gets in your face, eyes, nose, etc. So I have no problem with guys DISCREETLY picking their noses DURING GAMES; been there, done that! But Ozzie is STILL BUSY PICKING SNOTS A HALF HOUR AFTER THE GAME! He's picking his nose while answering questions ON LIVE TV! He's picking his nose while talking to a FEMALE INTERVIEWER! I have watched COUNTLESS baseball managers, coaches, and players for over 50 years, and I have NEVER SEEN ANYONE as GROSS as Ozzie Guillen.

I seriously DOUBT that he reads this website, but maybe SOMEBODY connected with the Marlins does and will give him a hint. Until he stops I will be referring to him as Ozzie "The Nose Picker" Guillen.

Another nonsensical post. Thanks Alex.

I've watched castellanos play. I ment or castellanos in any deal the reason I say they should go for top talent regardless what we think. The dodgers where giving the astros one of there top pitching prospects for lee before he rejected the deal.wheeler went to the mets for beltran and there are many cases where rentals can return good prospects especialy when a team goes all out in the off season like detroit and is in very good shape in there division. especialy towards the end of july when things get clearer.

as for castellanos he is not a stanton 500ft home run hitter he has power but his aproach is to all fields and he is not built as big as stanton hasn't shown the power showed in the minors like stanton a good .300 hitter.played in the same infield with hosmer and deven marrero. even if they don't try atleast they should bring back some talent. In any trade

At least Joe Capozzi is willing to take a little shot at the Fish. Check it out.

Red Sox are reportedly interested in both JJ and Sanchez (probably either/or) after the way Beckett and Lester pitched in their most recent outings. They think they can get Sanchez cheap — two mid-level prospects and some cash (they know how Loria likes cash).

Or maybe the Fish will give them the "Cody Ross special" and just hand over Sanchez for nothing.
