Buehrle: Marlins "lied" to him

Mark Buehrle took a parting shot at the Marlins on Wednesday, saying team officials lied to him.

"I'm upset with how things turned out in Miami," Buehrle said in the written statement. "Just like the fans in South Florida, I was lied to on multiple occasions. But I'm putting it behind me and looking forward to moving on with my career."

Buehrle and four others players were traded by the Marlins to the Toronto Blue Jays. Buehrle, who bought a home in Broward County after signing a 4-year deal, spent only one season with the Marlins before being dealt.

Sources said Buehrle was told he did not have to worry about being traded.

Buehrle's agent, Jeff Berry, also issued the following statement:

"In an off-season of change and uncertainty, the overriding factor in Mark's signing with Miami was Ozzie Guillen and the level of comfort his presence provided Mark and his family. While the Marlins were the highest bidder, baseball had already made Mark a wealthy man, so money was far from the most important factor in his decision. Throughout the recruiting process, the Marlins made repeated assurances about their long-term commitment to Mark and his family and their long-term commitment to building a winning tradition of Marlins baseball in the new stadium. This was demonstrated by their already completed signings of Ozzie, Heath Bell and Jose Reyes.

"At the same time, given the Marlins history, we were all certainly aware of and voiced concern about the lack of no-trade protection. This is unquestionably a business, and signing with the Marlins was a calculated risk. Mark held up his end of the bargain; unfortunately, the same can't be said of the Marlins.

"That said, Mark is a consummate professional and is looking forward to joining his new teammates in Toronto."

Thanks for making us the laughing stock of the MLB.
Crooks I say

Flav C.

This is disgusting.

Telling it like it is.

And you have to consider that Buehrle only bought his home in Broward because pitbulls were not allowed in Miami-Dade. He put a lot of thought into where he would buy his house, assuming he would spend the full length of his contract in Miami.

Lora screwed Buehrle over in all sorts of ways.

Finally, some news with teeth in it and, more importantly, the truth.

I was wondering when someone was going to being up Delgado.

Good going, Spencer. Keep it up.

Jeffrey Lurid is a liar. He lied to Buerle, Reyes, Delgado, and as Buerhle put it, to the fans on numerous occasions. He's got his his stadium, what does he care about us?

The slogan for a fan protest against him should be "Figure it out!"

Hi all. As despicable as this may be he can't blame anyone but himself and his agent. The world of sports does not recognize gentlemen agreements.

All of this crap over the past two weeks might have a happy ending. Our beloved owner just might have gone too far and he could be forced out of the game. Now he's got everyone POed, especially the other owners and the union. Seleg is irrelevent in this matter. In case anyone missed it, I'll paraphrase that splendid line by some fellow named Seth. He said that he would still attend Marlin games because he would enjoy having a complete section all to himself. He just might. It will be interesting to see if Loria can get a sponsor to name the park. My guess would be no. He could even have trouble getting TV and radio sponsors unless they already signed long term contracts. Who, in their right mind, would want to be identified with this evil man.

ex-season ticket holder

answer for Stan M...Fletcher Reede, the lawyer played by Jim Carrey in the movie "LIAR LIAR".

You can add the union to the list that is watching the Marlins closely. IMO...of all the folks now watching Loria...the SEC probably has the best chance to make a change.

Dionysus Thelxinoe

Speaking of the SEC, regardless of their findings, maybe the best way to describe Jeffrey Lurid is not liar but fraud.

Test!!! Test!!!

Did you guys notice that right after the trade was announced last week the press was also reporting Nolasco was going to be the next Marlin dealt? Only to have Samson declare that Nolasco will be staying with the team for 2013. Do you think the team was planning on trading him but now that we know the union is going to be looking into their payroll throughout the season they're afraid dumping Nolasco's $11.5 million would push the payroll below the level required in revenue sharing?

If that is the case it could also derail any plans they had to ship him out at the trade deadline as I do not get the impression the team plans on keeping him in the long term, and that could lead to us not even getting prospects in return for him. I know this is not a cheery thought but just another one on how Loria's cheapness can hurt the team. For some reason those are the only types of thoughts I've had recently on the team.

If Marlins are where they want to be spending wise, they should get rid of Nolasco and use his $11.5 million to get a good solid hitter or two. He's definitely not the person to build a pitching staff around, and certainly not worth nearly one third of team's payroll. Even if they are worried about violating the agreement, nothing says they can't "flip" him for someone more valuable and pick up prospects along the way.
Or maybe they promised him they wouldn't trade him, in which case they would never go back on their gentlemen's agreement, right? Ha!

Dionysus Thelxinoe

Flags, you're absolutely right about there being no gentle men's agreements in sports.

But the fundamental issues here transcend sports and winning ... it has to do with giving your word.

When a leader in a community gives his word to that community and to his employees, especially when doing so to comcessions or sacrifice ($$$) from said community, then thinks nothing about breaking his word, without explanation other than to send his lackeys out to bear the heat that only he is getting ... then it's about integrity and trust.

Those are an individual's values and vision (or in Jeffrey Lurid's case, a lack thereof) that make baseball and winning pale in comparison.

Former Marlins Fan

I am officially DONE with this team! I am upset to have wasted my time following a team ran by such careless characters. It is undeniable that the ownership does not care about US the fans. After so much talk about revenue increase with the new stadium, and this is how they use use their new resources!? They do not deserve a faithful following. They may blame their actions on the "business" side of baseball, but they absolutely have no idea about how to develop a fan base! Thank you for NOTHING Mr. Loria -because NOTHING is what we now have as a team!

Flav C.

"Josh Johnson, one of the players involved in last week's blockbuster, found out he was traded thanks to the MLB Trade Rumors app".

JJ explained that during an interview with Dan LeBatard.

Classy organization.

Peter Gammons Dog

Great Op-Ed piece by Herald writer Fred Grimm in todays Miami Herald titled " Marlins biggest lie can be seen in stadiums empty storefronts". Better than that is a link in the comments section implicating the Miami Heralds editorial board and two Marlins asskissing writers,Barry Jackson and douchebag clown Greg Cote, saying how the stadium will be good for the citizens of Miami. Samson dicksucker Lebatard had also waxed his Bullshittt that the stadium was good for Miami.Further proof that the Miami Herald is a croc of steaming dogshit and should be bought only for use at the bottom of birdcages, wrapping fish and hurricane emergency toilet paper.

undertown tony

Dog, you start by saying what a great piece you read in todays Herald, then find someway to turn that into a condemnation of the newspaper. Why would you continue reading the Herald if it sucks as bad as you say? Maybe the gravy you've been swilling turned your brain to giblets. Hope all that reading didn't make your lips too tired to give thanks today.

the Truth

ouch..snappy comeback from overtown baloney

Dick Young's Ghost

Doggie --looks like you struck a nerve in one underground tony jabroni. Must work for the Herald or Marlins. Keep barking the truth , Doggie.

Dionysus Thelxinoe

Dog, language in this forum is unnecessary and inappropriate. You must not be a parent (and maybe a child yourself) else you'd realize there are children out there following the Marlins for better or worse, and thus more likely to come across your coarse and uncouth method of communicating.

I don't always agree with the Herald, but that can be expressed in more intelligent ways. Like corporal punishment, whatever message you may have is lost in the transmission.

Thelxinoe...Well said!

Dionysus Thelxinoe

Bottom line for the Marlins ...

choosing to have the lowest payroll in baseball, breaking their commitment to our community,

Stanton (if he has half a brain) has already decided to leave as soon as contractually possible, I'm certain he's hoping for even sooner than that,

No quality players will want to play here; no quality players will want to stay here; that leaves only players (and coaches and managers) who are grateful just to have a job, which is another of saying that can't get a job anywhere else.

Who wants to root for a team like that? Jeffrey Lurid has made a shambles of this franchise. And note that he's accomplished this in spite of a new stadium. EVERY single other owner in the history of the game had his team flourish in the same circumstances (ie new stadium). But not this guy.

Jeffrey Lurid is a fraud.

On behalf of all of us in Canada, thanks for the trade to help us improve our ball club.
Come and support the Blue Jays this season in the same manner we Snow birds support your economy in the Winter.
Toronto has a good reputation in relationships with players.
We our proud of our team and would be proud to have you join us and cheer for the Blue ZJays.

joe frizzyaro

The Toronto Marlins. Why not?
A seemingly knowledgeable Toronto fan commenting on the Marlins MLB site says Marlins fans will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the prospects they got in the trade. Probably D. Samson posting, disguised as a non-slimeball.

Saw the B-Jays come to Marlins Park last June 22-24.They faced Anibal,JJ and Buerhle, took 2 out of 3.They pounded Anibal for 6 in 3.1 beat Marlins 12-5 ,JJ held them to 1 run through 7,game tied 1-1 into 9th Chisek and Mujica gave up 6 in 9th , beat Marlins 7-1. Sundays game Buerhle shut them out thru 7 and Gaudin held them to 1 hit in the 8th and 9th for a 9-0 Marlins win. They were a good team to watch and I guess they got a real good look at JJ and Buerhle and liked what they saw. Will be paying close attention to the B-Jays in 13, especially against Tampa. Good Luck B-Jays.

georgeB, interesting post.

Dionysus Thelxinoe

I just can't bring myself to root for the Blue Jays. I will, however, be rooting (praying even) for the SEC to find something, anything, so that it might help rid of this plague of an owner.

Dionysus Thelxinoe

We figured it out, Jeffrey Lurid. You're a fraud.

maybe loria will get hit by a car

richiej, won't matter. Too much padding.

I love B Jays!!!

Dionysus Thelxinoe

SMH ... sophomoric and desperate for attention ...

Lebo at the Clevelander

Glags,so does Samson. She believes it is better to give than recieve.

DT not at all. It was just too easy to pass up.

karma chameleon

Another Herald piece, this one by Michelle Kaufman about Loria barely beating Castro in popularity contest. No mention in the story of the Heralds endorsment of the stadium and their ,ahem , sportswriters swill of stadium approval. Cant wait till the shite hits the fan. And it will sooner or later. Hopefully much sooner than expected.

Perry White.....Daily Planet

Nobody buys the Herald anymore they read it on the net , just like anything else .The Herald and its paid shill employees endorsement of the stadium deal just comes down to survival $$$$. Thats why the Herald will soon charge for internet subscriptions. 5 yrs from now,the Herald will still be here . Loria and/or his Marlins, likely , may not. There is no honor amongst thieves in their relationship.

illiterate julio

isnt that among thieves ?

Cheap Trick

Isnt there hounour among whores? Loria is simply a pimp. The Herald is one of his many.

chink that hates Roria

WTF is hounour...thought its honor. rike res ur ranor

the Fish Bytes Gang

Mr Glags: welcome back...your thoughtful, intelligent humorous repartee was missed..we know you are one of us...feel free to grace us with your thoughts..PLEASE.

Dionysus Thelxinoe

"One of us"? What does that mean ... homebound agoraphobic challenged kids (HACK's for short)?

Please ... speak for yourself.

DT--Get off it. You're indignation is getting really, really boring. We know who you are and switching names doesn't make you sound any saner.

DT is Lou Vales aka Lou Valez ,just another horse's ass

From the mouth of Lou Vales--Lou Vales is sick of this team, sick of this site and am only responding to make that clear going forward. It is the inability of the morons who come here to realize that only Richard and I use our real names that makes this place so depressing. If I write something I give my name because I'm not ashamed of what I write or to affix my name to it. I came here today to read comments about Loria and Castro and alas----NOTHING!!

How bout them Canes and those ACC Champion, Florida State College for Women and Reprobates Producing Low SAT Scores??

Juan R.

get lost..take a hike..beat it..depressed old fartoon.
