Hechavarria heads to DL; Green called up; Eovaldi transferred to 60-day DL

Not a good day for the Marlins so far.

Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, who injured his right elbow making a throw before the game Wednesday, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Marlins have called up veteran Nick Green, 34, to replace him. Green was hitting .293 with a home run and four RBI in 11 games at Triple A New Orleans.

The Marlins also announced that right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, the center piece in their trade that sent Hanley Ramirez to the Dodgers, has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Eovaldi had a pretty good spring before saying he felt pain in his right bicep area. When we talked to him during the Marlins home opener he seemed optimistic he might be cleared to begin throwing soon. This is an obvious setback.

Hey Loria... Barnum and Bailey called and they would like their circus back

Santeria from Hialeah

The curse of Ozzie. Marlins have a Santeria curse on them.

Stan M

It's starting to look as though God is punishing the Marlins for us. Our prayers are needed to get him to transfer his wrath to the owner, not the poor players.

Here are the attendance figures for last night:
Nats at Marlins.......22,302
Astros at As..........15,488
Tampa at Balt.........13,591
Red Sox at Cleve......10,272
DBacks at Yankees.....34,369
WSox at Toronto.......15,684
Tigers at Seattle.....14,981
Phil at Cinn..........15,544
Royals at Atlanta.....23,018
Phil at Cinn (2)......16,467
Cards at Pitts.........9,570
Giants at Milwk.......29,362
Podres at Dodgers.....52,393 (Jackie Robinson effect)
If figures are accurate, only 4 teams outdrew the Marlins and one of them by less than a thousand.
Weather had an effect in some sites, but Loria has no gripe from last night, that's for sure. Some of those visiting teams shold have been gooddraws too...Cards, Phil, Tiger,Red Sox, Tampa.

Lucifer

The curse will be complete when the Marlins finish with the worst record this year and Jose Fernandez blows out his arm.Just wait. There are no Baseball Gods

Late at nite,Loria wears Samson around his neck to ward off the evil spirits.

rachel

I guess they're bring up Nick Green because their farm system is just so loaded with outstanding prospects.

rachel

bringing

alvin dark

rather get Dick Green

rachel

Al...Dick Green is 71 years old. If he has arthritis or needs a hip replacement, he'd be a perfect fit.

Eddie Stanky

Alvin Dark is 91...1948 ROY..All-Star infielder...World Series player and Manager...he'd be a perfect fit for these Marlins

Flav C.

Talking about the oldies, Dave Van Horn on the radio a few minutes ago: "It's not that they are not trying. They are trying. They are just limited."

Coming from a guy that never criticizes the Marlins, that says a lot.

Marlin Fan

Game not "officially " over in the 7th but..... Positive Ruggiano an Coughlan hits. Too bad Fernandez didn't have his best stuff . It's sad to see lack of effort and execution and doing the little things . If you are a professional even with questionable talent , work twice as hard to make up for the lack of talent . No excuse for lack of effort . If Stanton wants to become a Hanley until he's traded , then get lost . The Marlins are not a competitive major league team .

Camera Mike

I am starting to think my pre-season prediction of 57-105 was incredibly optimistic. This is starting to get seriously depressing and we're still in April.

rbleigh

these guys stink! Where's Seth, I mean the Marlin's Information Minister to provide me a little laughter this evening?

Camera Mike

rbleigh, I think we may have scared him away a couple of posts ago. Right after he said the fish would go on a long win streak.

S. Wright

Seth is in a minimun security facility now. He's on a whiffle ball and chain.

Glags

That was fugly.

Stan M

That's it for me. There is no hope for any kind of a year. I'll watch the box scores and follow the minor leaguers...and read this blog, but it's just too depressing to watch the games and I don't need that.
Eovaldi going on the 60 day DL with a tender shoulder. Baloney. The operation will soon follow.
Marisnick not ready to rehab. Ouch!
Fernandez is unnaturally wild and knocked all around after showing such dominance. Something is wrong. He's either hurt, or tipping his pitches. Maybe I should go back to calling him Alex; he was terrific then.
This is awful to say, but right now the best thing that can happen for us fans is for these poor guys to contine to be blown away game after game. It's the only way that the commissioner or the union will take serious notice.
One thing I will do is write what I hope will be a logical letter to Selig and tell the supernumerary who opens it that he better pass it on to the great man, for this is really starting to reflect upon his reputation and legacy.
There is nothing more to say at this time.

Flagstafffishfan

Is Stanton the next Hanley? I sure hope it's rust but he looks like he's dogging it sometimes.

Steve

At the beginning of the season this team was a Double A team with Stanton and now with all the injuries it's starting to look like a Single A team at major league prices. It is going to be a long season.

Who's on first base

Agree with Glags. Fugly.

Eddie S

The bullpen is a disaster and rightfully so. The Marlins got the lowest quality of free agents who nobobdy wanted. GET RID OF QUALLS, JOHN MAINE, JON RAUCH, AND WEBB.THEY WERE NOT EXPECTED TO WELL AND THEY CERTAINLY ARE PRETTY BAD. SINCE THE MARLINS RESEMBLE A SINGLE A TEAM, MIGHT AS WELL BRING ANY PITCHER IN THE MINORS. TEHY COULD NOT DO ANY WORSE!!!!!

the Management

Just Stop Watching , Altogether

JUAN YANES

IF THE MARLINS WOULD HAVE AN EXPERIENCE MANAGER, AS (LARRY BOWA)OR ANOTHER THEY COULD WIN MUCH MORE GAMES. BUT REDMOND IS VERY NEW IN THIS PROFESSION AND UNTIL NOW SHOW LITTLE ACKNOWLEDGES HOW PUT THE RIGHT PLAYER IN THE RIGHT PLACE AND MAKE THE CHANGES IN TIME.
