He gave a great performance today and showed why he is such a highly touted prospect. He showed fabulous control on the mound, and now I can't wait to see his next outing. Also listening to his final answer shows Crash Davis has already taught him the cliches, though it also also great to see that attitude from him after a tough loss.

Juan@the Clevelander

How did Beinfest finally hit a homer on a pitcher in the 1st round. Must have been drunk that draft day.

rbleigh

Juan, that's pretty easy. He stopped going for a tall and crafty lefty and opted for the hungry gas throwing righty.

rbleigh

And to add a cliche, "even a blinde squirrel finds an occasional nut."

Speaking of the draft, with this team likely to finish among the 3 worse in the game, I wonder who is out there for the 2014 draft? I hope there's a Strasburg Harper Beckett Hamilton type but worry that this particular FO would pass on a guy with a perceived of too high a bonus demand. Please Jeffrey don't F this one up too.

seeing is believing

What kinda shaky Ali like stunt will Loria pull this Opening Nite to stun and embarrass the crowd this time?

Stan M

Alex was great. You could tell they pulled him at the right time, he was getting visibly tired. Those way high and outside pitches to lefty batters weren't happening in the earlier innings.

Tonights attendance won't tell us much. It's the next night's turnout that will be indicitive of what is coming this year. And Loria wouldn't dare to show himself on the field. Without exaggeration, he would need at least 4 armed guards to go anywhere near the public...in my opinion.

 Oswald

Will they have metal detectors at the gates to discourage any snipers? Will Fat Basturd Loria wear kevlar underwear to the game? Will he have his 400lb gorilla bodyguard from CSC next to him at all times?

rbleigh

Stan Man, I love ya but please beat into your senior citizen head that the kid's name is Jose and not Alex will ya please.

FYI, Alex's kid Jr. is about the same age as the Marlin's Jose

rbleigh...I wish we were allowed to give out "likes" as they do on some blogs, because that was worthy of a "like."

Stan M

Thank you rbeigh...there is little hope for iprovement from this tired mind. Sort of exemplifies the same trail that the team is following.

Jose, Alex,Gorkys,Livan,Hernandez,Fernandez,WTF is the diff?

Sunny Dee

Since the Marlins are in the business of signing old, washed up players with no arm strength (e.g. Juan Pierre), why not sign the D-Train? He'd probably be one of the top pitchers in the Marlins bullpen.

m krebs

SD...He could probably play left field and hit as well as Pierre with three days practice, and his arm would certainly be better. It's an interesting idea.

How are they going to play "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" tonight? This franchise wasn't even able to secure an organist. They'll have to hook up someone's iPhone to the PA and play it. Assuming that this season is going to really go down as the worst in Marlins history is there any chance that MLB begins to insert itself with the "mess in Miami"? How long will Bud wait before he would involve his office or if he will even do so? 25,000 season tickets last year and 5,000 this year! There must be some concern about the market that MLB is aware of right? Just some thoughts as I watch the unfolding of a sports soap opera. It's like The Walking Dead, I can't get enough.

flagstafffishfan - MLB didn't care after the Pirates used taxpayer money to build a stadium and failed to field a competitive team. Same with the Astros. Once the stadium is built, MLB doesn't care.

Sorry for the multiple posts. I don't know why that happened.

Flagstafffishfan, I agree that it is past time for Bud and MLB to get involved but I am not holding my breath waiting for it. Also there is a slight problem with your numbers. I thought the fish sold 12,000 season tickets last year not 25,000. I may be the one in the wrong, but either way it is a major problem in my opinion.

Lol good reminder on the Pirates and MLB not getting involved in a losing franchise.
