Marlins open Day 2 of MLB Draft by taking high school shortstop from Orlando

NEW YORK CITY -- The Marlins opened Rounds 3 through 10 of the MLB Draft Friday by taking Orlando-area high school shortstop Ben Deluzio.

The 6-2, 185-pound prospect from Orlando First Academy was a two-sport star in high school and had several Division I football scholarship offers, but he ultimately chose baseball and is committed to Florida State.

According to MLB.com: "While DeLuzio plays shortstop now, he would likely move to center field as a professional where his plus speed and average arm profile well. At the plate, he makes consistent contact with a slashing, line-drive swing. Listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, DeLuzio is strong and has surprising pop. His time playing football has left him somewhat raw, but has a good feel for the game and enough athleticism to make the necessary adjustments."

Baseball America had Deluzio ranked as the 201st best overall prospect, but his stock was apparently rising
