Marlins reportedly agree to deal with former closer Kevin Gregg pending physical

Mike Hill said Sunday the Marlins still had some tinkering to do with their bullpen even after trading a draft pick to the Pirates for Bryan Morris.

Well, it looks like the second part of that process involves giving 35-year old former closer Kevin Gregg another shot in a Marlins uniform.

According to Fox's Ken Rosenthal, the Marlins have agreed to a deal with Gregg pending a physical. Rosenthal reported Gregg will begin in the minors and then get called up by the Marlins in eight or nine days.

Gregg went 7-13 with a 3.48 ERA and 61 saves as the Marlins' closer during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He spent last year with the Cubs going 2-6 with a 3.48 ERA and 33 saves. He was a free agent available through spring training.

lol bring on the vets. welcome back Gregg don't wear out your welcome to soon.

Hey, if the Marlins didn't lose enough games on a Cubs washout, they have the chance to lose more on a Cubs AND Marlins washout.

Ugueth Urbina was unavailable.

When contacted last week about making a comeback, Charlie Hough told Loria to go pound his samson.

From Marlin Maniac...

"The problem with these moves, neither pitcher is very good. Morris’ -0.8 WAR ranks dead last for qualified relievers and Kevin Gregg has not pitched for a major league affiliate this season and posted a 4.38 xFIP in 62 appearances a season ago."

I posted this excerpt for 2 reasons: first, I don't know what an xFIP is and second, I don't CARE what an xFIP is.

DT, Tell the Urbina story. Many don't know of his "FIREBALL" tendencies.

Lou, do you mean his conviction and 14-year sentence for attempted murder when he poured gasoline on some migrant workers who were using his pool without permission?

who's on first

that's what closers do...they "shut down" their adversaries...

Ugi was released on 12/24/12 after serving 5yr 9mo of a 14yr 7mo sentence on an attempted murder conviction. As an ex-con Ugi would fit right in with Loria's 3rd world Miami cronies.

DT, Thank You. All we gave up was Adrian Gonzalez but to win a World Series it may have been a good deal BUT only because they won it ALL.
