Get The Black Cat Out Of The Golden Panther Arena

Down goes another FIU hoopster and the season opener is still 9 days away. Add projected starting pointSoto  guard Josue Soto to the walking wounded of your Golden Panthers basketball team.

Soto fractured his thumb during a recent practice at FIU Arena. (Yeah, I know I called it Golden Panther Arena in this post's title, Golden Panther goes better with black cat). The word is Soto is expected to miss 3 to 4 months.

The injury leaves the point guard duties to Tremayne Russell and newcomer Harley Fuller to start the season. TR showed some flashes last season, especially his aggressiveness toward the hoop. HF is a junior transfer from New York.

The FIU hoops injury list now grows to: Alex Galindo (ankle), J.C. Otero (knee), Badara N'Diaye (knee) and Soto (thumb). N'Diaye is done for the season. The other 3 could return for Sun Belt play at the earliest.

Which of these FIU hoopsters cracked a mirror, walked under a ladder, had a black cat cross them or opened an umbrella indoors?

Wow, horrible news for the basketball team, I was looking forward to see what Soto could do. My prediction for Saturday:

FIU 24
ASU 23

"Florida cornerback Jacques Rickerson was kicked off the team Tuesday after he was arrested and accused of slapping his girlfriend, choking her and then covering her face with a pillow."

If this were a UM player you all would be up in arms and the National media would be killing the University of Miami - but this is the Gators. Where is all the hate for the Gator thugs scUM?

Because at scUM, its the norm...at UF its an isolated incident.

He got kick off the team,a Gator team that is hunting for a national title, if he was at ucg, he would've gotten a half or one game suspension, and moved him to another dormroom.

Horrible news for SR and the boys! Most of those injuries are foot / knee related and they seem to happen at GPA. Has the Athletics department re-done the floor yet? It was in pathetic shape last season, complete with missing logo. I LOVE football, however we CAN'T ignore our other possible revenue providing sport!

My prediction for Homecomming this Sat is:

FIU - 27
ASU - 21

Keys to the game:

1) NO TURNOVERS for FIU!
2) CREATE TURNOVERS on ASU!
3) Minimize penalties
4) Establish a running game, by committee if needed (Reams, Ned, Owens).
5) Plenty of TY "Goodbye" Hilton.

Go FIU!!!

I am making my prediction, I think FIU goes back to their winning ways:

FIU 28
ASU 17

GO FIU!!

Hey CC I second Quijote's post. At UM, murder and rape are usually the attention getters, beating up the girlfriend, as pathetic an act as that is, doesn't garner to much press!

Ark St. is a better "team" than we are. They have played serious competition tough. They lost at UL-L by 5. They beat Texas A&M (who is starting to play some better ball).

FIU is coming Home, now is the time to salvage the season. We play the rest of the SEASON in MIAMI. The chips are on the table; now is the time to show what kind of CHARACTER FIU has.

We need to fill the cage on Saturday and turn this season around. If, and it's a big if, we can get by ASU on Sat., we can run the table! We have two weeks off before UL-M comes to town, then FAU at the 'Joe' and finally WKU at home.

It's up to us to show this team we want it. Get out there and make the cage electric. The team will respond!

Go Panthers !!!

SO PETE WILL THESE INJURIES BE ANY FACTOR WHEN PG EVALUATES BBALL AT THE END OF THE SEASON? BECAUSE SR IS A LAME DUCK RIGHT NOW FROM MY STAND POINT

Does anyone understand why Crazy posted that on our blog? I would understand if this was a UM or UF blog, but why here? Maybe he needs a hug?

Ridge,

I think this will be Sergio's final season. You can evaluate the quality of a coach by the way he handles adversity and change.

Clearly, he's never been able to play a good game of chess on the basketball court. And now without his king and knights, I can't imagine him checking mate with his remaining pawns and bishops.

Time for change.

Just dumb....

FIU 28 ASU 17

Man Law!

Oh, boy. Who the hell put the hex on the FIU basketball squad? Soto was supposed to be a main plank, along with Galindo. Now, both gone until conference play. Losing Bada hurts, too, if for no other reason than he's a 7-footer. Not to mention Otero.

I can't imagine what Sergio's going to do with this team now. He's probably injecting Maalox into his veins. And drinking it, too. At least the out of conference sked isn't that bad. We might be able to limp around until SBC play, get the guys back healthy and hope we catch lightning in a bottle.

You can't judge SR or anyone fairly when they have an injury rash like this. But I suspect he's gone this year, too, regardless. Past history hasn't really merited giving him another chance, but I have to admit that I'm not sure FIU can find anyone better right now than SR. He may not be that good at X's and O's, but you don't have to be if you've got the talent. And say what you will about Rouco, but he does bring in talent.

Unless the financial picture's a lot better than it was when I was there, which I doubt, the best FIU can probably do is find some assistant coach somewhere and give them a shot. We're not hiring a Bob Knight, that's for sure.

There is one other thing... hopefully, we'll find some people who can step up and carry things along until the boys come back. The one good thing about situations like this is that it gives opportunities for other people to step up. Let's see if anyone takes advantage.

Has everyone forgotten that T.Y. Hilton was also a stud basketball player? He's on the roster and listed as a guard. Who do you think is playing the point for FIU? T.Y. "Goodbye" Hilton.

Pike, he probably won't join the team till football season is over though.

Knowing the history of Pete Garcia, he'll fire SR then hire a UM assistant or a UM something. Then redo the floor, spend money on the program, etc. He is letting SR wither on the vine with no life support. He's probably just as happy that these injuries occur so it gives him more justification to fire SR.

I agreed with the MC hiring 100%, the jury is very much out on TT (Price NEVER lost 40 games in a season, including several to Div - II schools!) and now PG has his sights on SR. UM has NO BBall history, so if PG is trying to jettison SR then at least find a replacement in a REAL BBall school. Definitely, NOT UM!

As long as T.Y. is ready to go for the conference schedule we'll be fine. I don't expect much out of them in OOC play.

PP - please treat us to a baseball blog now that the Fall season is over. Thanks.

Arkansas State 31, FIU 17

Thank U Herbal Minded - one of the best UM videos ive seen on UTube. I hope all the FIU bloggers go watch the video so you can see what tradition, champions and a bright future look like.

^THAMK YOU^

CC & Herbal Minded lets see if I get this right. You have a slick highlight video of hard-hitting UM plays while two or more guys rap to this video while using the n-word every other word. Unfortunately your narrow-minded view on "hip" misses the bigger problem. This is what you want your university to be represented as? That is why perception becomes reality. UM has done an admirable job cleaning up its image, yet people fall back on those old “thug-days”. Why? Because a bad reputation is like a truly bad stain. Bad stains are extremely hard to get rid of!

Lack of education and the propping up of illiteracy as cool is the major problem. God help us!

You UM guys need to worry about getty your frightened administrators and coaches to put FIU back on your schedule every year and until then, stop posting on this board. UM = Scared sissies.

"Lack of education" FIU fan 4 life - are you serious with this comment? Do me a favor, do a little research about UM's student athletes as compared to those of FIU, who is on probation for it, and then get back to me. Comments like this show who really lacks the education.

Gerbal Minded:

Keep your scUM propaganda off this BLOG. I take great joy in scrolling past your ignorance...Stick to your day job washing my car and dumpster diving !!!

CC,

So in the 1930s it would of been impossible for you to be a scUM bag right ?? Obviously, because scUM did not have any tradition or championships. Look SissyCane, nobody gives a $h-t about UCG here.

CrazyCane and the rest of the scUM will probably be at FIU this weekend secretly wearing their blue and gold. UM is on a bye week and FIU is at home. I wonder how many of them will show up in UM gear and get escorted out by security like they did for the MTSU game.

pikedanny - I promise you, if I go, I will wear my Cane t-shirt and will not be escorted out. Security cannot escort me out for wearing a UM shirt, now, if the FIU fans around me want to start something and create a disturbance, I am sure security will be escorting them out. Get a clue pikedanny, stop being a low class uneducated indiv for a few seconds and step into reality.

I would just like to point out that the following remarks were posted by FIUBlueandGold and were unprovoked as no comments like this preceded this post

"Stick to your day job washing my car and dumpster diving !!!"

That being the case, blueandgold, I do not know you, but in order for someone to wash your car, you need to own one first, not steal one from your day job as a valet. Second, you reference dumpster diving, might I remind you that UM is located in Coral Gables which is beautiful, your campus in between a highway and what is, for lack of a better term, a Spanish Ghetto, so if anyone is going dumpster diving, it is you my friend. Third, and lastly, I wasnt around in the 30's so I do not know, but I can assure you, UM wasn't starting on field brawls with teams far superior to them in order to get their name in the paper. Yes FIU has only been around for a few years, but what you fail to see is that you DO have a tradition already - a tradition of being losers, atradition of being thugs (just like UM only without the winning to back it up) and as being a sub-par academic school who gets sanctioned by the NCAA for it. Nice traditions over there in west miami where the only thing that matters is when the dade county youth fair is coming so half of your family can have a job for two weeks selling elephant ears and popcorn and pressing go on the roller coaster.

yawn.....

Go FIU!!!

There were a few scUMbags sitting in the section next to mine in the club level and they were escorted out for sitting in someone else's seats. That was the "official" reason they were given for being kicked out. I have a feeling their orange and green was a big bullseye for security. And for the record, those scUMbag fans were being pretty low class and thats why they got the boot.

Before I forget... a good friend of mine turned me onto a new cocktail that I think will be a big hit with the FIU Faithful.

Ladies and Gentlemen I bring to you... the GOLDEN PANTHER:

http://www.drinkstv.com/recipe5434.aspx?r=y&pl=main

It's pretty tasty. My friend and I will be serving them up at our tailgate this weekend. Look for the FIU & Obama flags waving. lol

LMAO...

I'VE DEBATED BLUE&GOLD B4 ON THE EYE OF THE U.. HE ISN'T WORTH MY TIME ANYMORE...

GET'EM CRAZYCANE

FIU FANS ARE WORSE THAN GATOR FANS.

They talk like they are relevant but in all reality all they are known for is starting & then losing a fight against the U.

At least the Gators have won some, not as much as the U, but they can WIN.

What makes it even worse is that many FIU players are from SF are good kids and cut from the same cloth. BUT FIU FANS WILL KILL ANY CHANCE OF GETTING A FAN BASE IF THEY CONTINUE RUNNING THEIR MOUTH.

FIU fans Talk but will NEVER be able to back it up.

remember...

Hey GPP, ever gone fishing in freshwater? Well for those that have and have gone fishing with waders on, you will always stir up the muck in otherwise clear water when you’re not careful. Once again, a couple low-life dirtballs from the dark-side show up on this blog to bring their worthless noise and several of you bring yourself down to their scum level. Guys ignore them and they will be minimized. Their drivel is ALWAYS low-rent so just keep the discourse ABOVE-GROUND!

Clawing Cancer your take on men’s hoops was right-on. FIU For Life, I hope for SR's sake and all of us FIU hoops fans sake that your comments on PG ignoring BBall because he wants to bring his own UM guy is wrong. SR is a great talent evaluator and has been snake-bitten in 1) what he inherited from D. Marsh and 2) injuries in the last THREE seasons with some key players. There is an exhibition game for the men tonight at the GPA.

Pete, I heard they got a new sponsor for the Arena. Is this true? I heard it was a local bank.

See the GPP on Sat @ our stadium!

GO FIU!!!

Crazy Cane,

The car washing comments I believe were directed at the Amateur Rapper...

Secondly - I'll leave 2 club seats at Will Call for you on Saturday. They'll be listed under "McLovin"

Third - If you show, I'll give you props on here for being a man, otherwise your a FRAUD like most scUM bags.

Fourth - I can't guarantee your safety because YOU have a tradition of crossing the line here and labeling anyone associated with FIU as a third world latin immigrant...etc.....I'm tired of reading your garbage and hate directed at Latins, because it insults all of us.

********************************************

BlueandGold, we met at the USF game in the lounge - (we both know Rohan Marley) Are you tailgating again ?? Look me up.

PantherPride97,

CANES STICK TOGETHER...

HATE & LOVE ARE SO SIMILAR... THANX FOR THE HATE & WATCHING MY VIDEO... I DON'T RAP, I DO BUSINESS.

Don't pay attention to those scUMs.

Wish I could go to homecoming game, but unfortunately company scheduled meetings whole weekend.

FIU 31
ASU 27

GO FIU!!!

WOOW. I NEVER IN MY LIFE CLICKED ON THE FIU LABEL. BUT THIS IS CRAZY. U FANS ARE FUNNY. IS THIS NOT THE SAME FIU TEAM THAT WAS 0- WHATEVER A COUPLE YEARS BACK...

TALK ABOUT IRRELEVANT

GOD LUCK

Pete,

The quality of this blog decreases every time scUMbags talk smack nobody really cares about. Can't you blacklist their referring IP so that we can have a nice clean blog and not have this turn into a Greg Cote type of redundant crap blog?

Please look into it.

Thanks

UM fans don't hate on us FIU fathful, we have more in common then you think. For example both of us have not beaten a team in the top 25. We both play in a conference that does not have a team in the top15. Can't we all get along?
