Hi....First off, congrats on a very good season last year, and the success we had on our recruiting class.

Talking about the recruiting class...have we gotten any other extra commitments/signings or late signees that you can talk about?

Question #1: What, in your opinion, are the single most important strength and conditioning drills a football player must practice regularly in order to take their game to the next level?

MC: Multi-joint, multi-directional movements. All exercises that require explosion, acceleration, deceleration and change of direction. In other words all the movements required to be a successful football player. Examples: harness pulls, box jumps, cone drills, running the ladders and hoops (check out CBS4 video), mat drills, bag drills and a slew of Olympic weight room exercises.

Question #2: There are always taunts on here and on other teams boards that you may leave once your contract expires. I know that your commitment to FIU at this time is unwavering, however where do you envision yourself in 10 years from now?

MC: Winning championships at FIU.

Hi Coach. First off, congrats on a very successful season last year. We are excited on what the future brings on FIU Football. Talking about the great class we had last season recruiting.....

Are there any other players that have joined the team and/or late signee and/or walk ons...that you can talk about other than the original 23 signees?

how is the quarterback situation ? are there any additions to wes caroll who must sitout this coming season ?

Coach, we know the 2006 season before you arrived the FIU Football team was 0-12. Besides inheriting a team with such an awful record I have heard there were other problems such as ineligibilty and apr troubles. Could you pleae elaborate on some of the problems and obstacles you have encountered since becoming the FIU Head Coach?

1st when it comes to the upcoming non-conference schedule, how pumped are you, your staff, and players about playing such a tough schedule that includes playing Bama, Rutgers, toledo, and for the first time i believe in school history the defending champs?

MC: We already collected film on all the teams. It's why these great football players are coming to FIU and we want to continue to show the nation that FIU is on the way to becoming a premier program.

2nd: the game im most excited for is Playing the Gators so that way i can actually trash talk my cousin whos a gator alum. who do you think from our team will lay the first big hit on Tebow and what do you think can be done to contain that monster?

MC: We need to play assignment football, although he is one of their best player, they have several. It will be hard to contain our players from jumping out of their skin, not to mention the coaches as well.

3rd: finally and i wont take much more of your time do you and your staff feel that you can get or are in works w/ i guess Panther Rage/ SGA to try to organize the student body to get excited for these OOC games and organizing road trips?

MC: It's in the works. COUNT ME IN FOR ANYTHING TO TAKE THIS MOMENTUM TO A NEW LEVEL.

Morning Coach,

Q1: How do you see your DLine shaping up. Especially the D-tackle position.

Q2: How are you young Linebackers in Winston Frasier and Aaron Davis coming along.

Q3: Does it look like you will be signing any additional players before fall camp?

Coach Cristobal, Thank you for your leadership of FIU Football. We the fans are as pumped up as you about the direction of our football program. Keep up the great work, we're all behind the players and coaches!!!

I'll keep my questions simple.

You've done a great job recruiting South Florida, What has been the main recruiting tool to attract these kids to stay home and turn down programs in the ACC, SEC, Big East and the bigger conferences?

Secondly, with the loss of some Seniors on the defensive line. Who can we expect to fill those positions and help us where it matters most, the line of scrimmage?

Thank you for your time.

GO FIU!!!

Thanks to both Coach Cristobal and Pete for doing this Q&A blog. Here are my questions for coach:
1. how many scholarships do we have left to fill out the 2009 recruiting class, and what positions are you targeting to fill with the remaining scholarships?
2. What do you think is the weakest part of the team this coming year? What area did you not address as well as you would have like to in this year's recruiting class?
3. what do you see as our biggest area of need in next year's recruiting class?
4. If UM offers you the head coaching job at the end of next season, do you take it? If you do, will you put FIU back on UM's schedule and take your beating like a man?

Coach....I know it may be too early, but I know you are great in recruiting, which I believe is a very important component of our future...

1. How is recruiting going for 2010 season? Close to having commitments?

2. How do you feel the new fieldhouse, locker room, meeting rooms, weight room, training room, etc., will help in securing more recruits?

how many scholarships do we have left to fill out the 2009 recruiting class, and what positions are you targeting to fill with the remaining scholarships?

MC: We MAY have 1 to 2 available we are always looking for quality OL and DL as well as any big-time playmaker at any position.

What do you think is the weakest part of the team this coming year? What area did you not address as well as you would have like to in this year's recruiting class?

MC: I think we're going to be young at the DLine, yet the young players are talented and we expect them to mature quickly. You're never satisfied with recruiting regardless of how well it goes. If we could add 1 more position that we may have missed it would be a big-body running back.

3. what do you see as our biggest area of need in next year's recruiting class?

MC: Prime-time QB, another great year of OL and DL and 3 to 4 legitimate cover corners.

I am also an alumni of FIU- how can I help this program to continue to grow financially? Are there ways to help the football team specifically?

Coach, just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and that I hope you and FIU are together for a long time.

What is your opinion on FIU's future conference affiliation? Are we a life long Sun Belt school or do you see us moving into a higher profile conferece in the near/distant future?

Thanks again for all your hard work. It has been a pleasure watching your team play.

I was at Penn State for his first game as head coach of FIU. How would he rate the talent level NOW versus the talent that lined up against Paterno in 2007.

- Who is the strongest guy on the team and the fastest guy, (including 2009 recruits..)

MC: On a scale from 1 to 10 we started with a 1.5 and now we're at 5 and continuing our steady goal to reach that 10.

Who is the strongest guy on the team and the fastest guy, (including 2009 recruits..)

MC: Fastest were T.Y. and Junior Mertile. The strongest was Joe Alajajian (450 bench, 550 squat and clean 335)

How much has the success of TY's successful rookie season helped in recruiting?

You've done a great job recruiting South Florida, What has been the main recruiting tool to attract these kids to stay home and turn down programs in the ACC, SEC, Big East and the bigger conferences?

MC: Like Scarface said this is the land of opportunity and FIU is certainly that. I believe the passion exhibited by our coaching staff as well as the excitement that is building among our players has had a powerful effect on the high-power and high-caliber athletes that we're attracting.

Secondly, with the loss of some Seniors on the defensive line. Who can we expect to fill those positions and help us where it matters most, the line of scrimmage?

MC: Expect a lot from Andre Pound, Kasey Smith, Jonas Murrell, Reggie Jones, Jonathan Jackson, Cody Pellicer, Joey Harris who moved over from TE and Kambriel Willis. It's time for all these guys to step and it will be the determing factor in how far we go this season.

Talking about the recruiting class...have we gotten any other extra commitments/signings or late signees that you can talk about?

MC: We can't comment on recruiting.

Are there any other players that have joined the team and/or late signee and/or walk ons...that you can talk about other than the original 23 signees?

MC: Can't comment on that.

how is the quarterback situation ? are there any additions to wes caroll who must sitout this coming season ?

MC: Wesley Carroll is our only QB signee for the year.

Which programs do you look to as a blue print for FIU Football? Utah and Buffalo come to my mind. Which programs come to yours and why?

Coach, we know the 2006 season before you arrived the FIU Football team was 0-12. Besides inheriting a team with such an awful record I have heard there were other problems such as ineligibilty and apr troubles. Could you pleae elaborate on some of the problems and obstacles you have encountered since becoming the FIU Head Coach?

MC: We'll save the details for another blog date....but let's just say when we get this monster turned around and bring home our first championship it will be the most drastic turnaround in college football history. On the next blog the details of what we are overcoming will shock you.

Coach,

Thank you from another FIU Alumni and Season Ticket holder. Looking forward to seeing you and the team picking up Championships in the future.

Since Joey Harris has been moved to the D-Line....is Kirchenberg returning...any other TE expected to contribute next year?

MC another question i just thought of .. how is our RB situation going into spring ball.. i know Perry will prob be taking first team reps cause Owens from what i have been reading is nursing injuries... who do we have on the Depth Chart in spring, who do you think can contribute, and who coming in fall can help out the depth at the RB position?

who do you think is the guy on your squad that feels he has the most to prove?

moved these questions from the prior blog

Coach,

Do you like the idea of an MLS team playing at the CAGE? You think this will help the stadium and the Football program?

Hi coach, I would like to congratulate you on all your hard work with this young Panthers team.
Question #1: Have you heard the chant that is done with your name? What do you think of it?

Interesting that Joey Harris is moving to DL.

Final Question: Marquis Rolle has all the tools to be a #1 Receiver. How competitive do you think WR position will be with incoming recruits? Seems like we're loaded at that position.

Morning Coach,

Q1: How do you see your DLine shaping up. Especially the D-tackle position.

Q2: How are you young Linebackers in Winston Frasier and Aaron Davis coming along.

Q3: Does it look like you will be signing any additional players before fall camp?

MC: I see youth and talent. Spring football will be dedicated to making these guys mentailly tough, physicall fit, masters of technique and effort freaks.

MC: They have been extremely impressive in winter workouts, both weigh anywhere from 230 to 240, run 4.5/4.6, get downhill in a hurry, have real good cover skills and play with passion. When you add Wendy Napoleon to that mix you've significantly increased the physical presence of your LB corps.

MC: Always a possibility.

1. How is recruiting going for 2010 season? Close to having commitments?

2. How do you feel the new fieldhouse, locker room, meeting rooms, weight room, training room, etc., will help in securing more recruits?

MC: Can't comment on that.

MC: Once completed it will be distinctly clear that FIU is fully committed to becoming a big-time Division I program. When prospects and parents realize that we have the resources in place to develop at the same levels as any major Division I school in the country the decision to become a Panther will continue to become more popular.

Hey coach! Great job with the team. What is the cituation with C. Mack? That guy was an absolute bulldozer when he played high school! Will we get to see him do his thing on the field?

I am also an alumni of FIU- how can I help this program to continue to grow financially? Are there ways to help the football team specifically?

MC: Absolutely. As any D-I program, the alumni and contributors are the difference makers in making a program successful. All contributions big or small are critical in the advancement and completion of our facilities and program. I encourage everyone to get involved and get their friends in this community involved. Please realize that this program is all about the community and making sure that our young men become better people, fathers, husbands and big-time contributors to the best community in the entire world.

What is your opinion on FIU's future conference affiliation? Are we a life long Sun Belt school or do you see us moving into a higher profile conferece in the near/distant future?

MC: What is going on at FIU is unstoppable.

How much has the success of TY's successful rookie season helped in recruiting?

MC: I think it's one of the strongest statements in the country that one of the top, if not the top freshman in the country plays for FIU with statistics unmatched by any freshman in the state of Florida as well as most of the country.

For panthernation. To contribute funds and money to Athletics, and you can be, from what I understand as specific as you want your donation to be....you can contact the folks at Athletics in charge of the Panther Club.

Good Morning Coach, So i hear that Joey is moving to the DL, How is he doing? do you expect him to be ready in the fall? What weight do you want him at? I believe he's at 250 now. I know you guys are doing a great job with him, keep up the good work, GO FIU (Joey's MOM)

Which programs do you look to as a blue print for FIU Football? Utah and Buffalo come to my mind. Which programs come to yours and why?

MC: I like the Rutgers model for 2 reasons: I got to experience it first-hand to know the intricacies of the turnaround. No. 2 we were a part of taking over a program that needed a cultural overhaul as well as NCAA penalty recovery.

Since Joey Harris has been moved to the D-line....is Kirchenberg returning...any other TE expected to contribute next year?

MC: Kirchenberg is returning and we expect Jonathan Faucher, John Ellis and Chris Campbell to contribute significantly.

It was heard that QB from Cardinal Gibbons HS
Chris Schirripa may be possible walk on. Is that a possability ?

how is our RB situation going into spring ball.. i know Perry will prob be taking first team reps cause Owens from what i have been reading is nursing injuries... who do we have on the Depth Chart in spring, who do you think can contribute, and who coming in fall can help out the depth at the RB position?

who do you think is the guy on your squad that feels he has the most to prove?

MC: Daunte Owens and Trenard Turner are hurt. DeMario Lee, John Ellis and Calvin Paquette will be getting carries in the spring. We expect Darian Mallary to contribute immediately. We should be 5-deep for the fall.

MC: All of us, players and coaches

Do you like the idea of an MLS team playing at the CAGE? You think this will help the stadium and the Football program?

MC: It can only help us.

Coach is TY going to gain some wieght this year ?

Do the (very nice, by the way) T.Y. Hilton and Gaitor huge banners on the northeast facade of the stadium have any type of effect on current and/or prospective players? I imagine some players would really love to have their names and images hanging from the Stadium as well...

Hi coach, I would like to congratulate you on all your hard work with this young Panthers team.
Question #1: Have you heard the chant that is done with your name? What do you think of it?

MC: Don't know what the chant is, but I hope it's a good one.

Thank you coach for all your hard work and that of your staff. My little kid cousins are all fiu fans now.

1. Is James Jones likely out for the season?

2. What actually happened to A.J. Grant? That was one scary saftey.

Marquis Rolle has all the tools to be a #1 Receiver. How competitive do you think WR position will be with incoming recruits? Seems like we're loaded at that position.

MC: It will be the most competitive position on the team. I believe T.Y.'s big-play capability and consistency woke up every WR knowing now that we're bringing in more big-time playmakers and knowing that we have a QB that is doing a great job feeding them the football. Guys should be competing relentlessly to get more playing time.

What is the cituation with C. Mack? That guy was an absolute bulldozer when he played high school! Will we get to see him do his thing on the field?

MC: Can't comment on that.

Do you have in mind any player(s) that you expect to have an immediate contribution for next year from our recruits?

For panthernation. To contribute funds and money to Athletics, and you can be, from what I understand as specific as you want your donation to be....you can contact the folks at Athletics in charge of the Panther Club.

MC: Thank you, FIU Fanatic. This will be the key component in taking our program to the next level.

MC: Hi, Mrs. Harris. Your son is a beast. His work ethic is exceptional and his desire to be great is awesome. We fully expect Joey to be a big-time player at FIU and definitely be a big-time contributor, if not starter in the fall.

It was heard that QB from Cardinal Gibbons HS
Chris Schirripa may be possible walk on. Is that a possability ?

MC: Can't comment on that.

Coach is TY going to gain some wieght this year ?

MC: Already has gained 13 pounds at 171 and we look to pack some more explosive muscle on him.

Love this

"
What is your opinion on FIU's future conference affiliation? Are we a life long Sun Belt school or do you see us moving into a higher profile conferece in the near/distant future?

MC: What is going on at FIU is unstoppable.

thanks Pete, he is a great kid! GO FIU!

Do the (very nice, by the way) T.Y. Hilton and Gaitor huge banners on the northeast facade of the stadium have any type of effect on current and/or prospective players? I imagine some players would really love to have their names and images hanging from the Stadium as well...

MC: It's usually the first thing that is commented upon when driving up to the stadium. We are currently fundraising to line the rest of the stadium with banners of our football players.

1. Is James Jones likely out for the season?

2. What actually happened to A.J. Grant? That was one scary saftey.

MC: No. He underwent knee surgery and will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis. We expect James to fully recover and be in the mix for the starting DE position.

MC: Can't comment on that.

and thanks coach, keep up the good work!!! GO FIU! Looking forward to coming down to Miami for the Spring Game!

Do you have in mind any player(s) that you expect to have an immediate contribution for next year from our recruits?

MC: I don't have plans on redshirting any one of them. I expect all these guys to contribute whether as starters, backups or on special teams.

Thanks Mario from FIU's faithful fans!!! All around the nation and the world....

Buena Suerte desde Puerto Rico...Good luck!

MC: I want to thank everyone. I really enjoyed getting a chance to communicate with everyone interested in the FIU program. What is being built here is extraordinary and it's going to take all of us together to achieve championship status.

GO FIU! Come on down to spring ball!

Coach and Pete,

Thank you for the blog, interesting stuff.

Will try to go to spring ball but the office doesn't always understand.

Looking forward to the start of the Season from the stands in Tuscaloosa.

Hey MC your doing a great job coaching and the recruiting class was in my opinion the top in the conference.. Anyway, coach my question is, Did u know that all the girls at FIU thinks u are hot? lol

thank you MC for coming on to the GPP and chatting w/ us. and thank you pete for organizing it

Good morning Mrs. Harris - your son went to the bathroom by himself today, twice. It is really amazing how much hard work he has put in and it is showing in his performance, he managed to not get any piss on the seat. Amazing. Also, I expect him to start this fall, and by start, i mean to start wearing big boy underwear and not pull up diapers. Your son is awesome Mrs. Harris, and when his mommy finally stops holding his hands through tackling drills and wind sprints, we expect him to really be a big time contributor.

Thanks a lot for this chat with MC Pete. See you all in Tuscaloosa!!

Thank you for taking FIU to the next level Coach Cristobal!!!

I love FIU. I'm sorry. I'm soo pumped I can't think of anything better to write. I might just strap on a helmet and ram my head into a wall just to release my enthusiasm.

Go Panthers!

crazycane, you are a little coward internet bully. Id like to see you talk trash about Joey's mom to his face. hahahaha that boy could beat you senseless.

get a life you little tic tac dick wiesel.

Thanks for hooking us up Pete. We truly appreciate the live blog. Coach Cristobal sounds ready for football season, guy doesn't take a break.

Leave it to CANDY CANE, or whatever other flavor of the month scUM bag is posting, to personally attack yet another player's mother posting on this blog. As if they are not supposed to be fans of their son or the university he represents. I'm beginning to think there's a major Oedipus complex epidemic at scUM and this is just a backlash. CANDY maybe you just wish your mom gave more of a crap about you like these mothers, but maybe your mother already knew you were going to be a dbag and didn't bother.

TheChampionUnderdog - how dumb are you? You go on the blog and call me an internet bully, and then you proceed to call me names over what - that's right, the internet. Does the word hypocrite mean anything to you? And by the way, do you know me? No, I do not think so? So how do you know Mrs. Harris's son could beat me up? You know nothing about me, that is why your comments are so stupid. TheChampionUnderdog, the next time you want to practice being the internet tough guy, why don't you take a second and try you using that FIU brain of yours and say something with a little thought. Loser.

LOL...el loco needs his medicine....

Whatever CC, your words don't insult me, i'm just a proud mom and that won't change, so do us all a favor and go away!!!

KJHarris02 - do you really think you telling me to go away is going to get me to stop posting? And by the way, who elected you to speak on behalf of everyone? "Do us all a favor..." There are definelty some on this blog who do not want me to go away. I know that your son plays for the GPers, and maybe you can speak for him, tell him what to do, and hold his hand when he crossing the street, but please do not presume that you are my mother, or the ruler of this blog - you are not. The only person who can have me go away from this blog is Pete and based upon him allowing me to post here for the past year and a half, I do not think he is going to bannish me simply b/c an overbearing mother wants me to "go away." I hope you didn't teach your son the "go away" tactic, can you imagine, her son is about to be hit by the opposing team and he yells out, "Do me a favor, go away."

ha, ha, such a comedian....i find that hard to believe that someone on this blog would want you to stay...

crazycane, heres the simple and unequivocal difference between you and i: I dont pick on people unprovoked. What you do is take unfair shots at people who have done nothing to start with you. That in my opinion makes you a punk.

Pete, please this is getting ridiculous. It is one thing for posters to state their opinions and to talk smack about how horrible we are and how perfect their school, and it is a completely different thing when a poster harrasses other posters for no particular reason. CC, your posts have gone from amusing and annoying to downright distasteful and hurtful. You are a disgrace to the UM community and to yourself, so please, for your sake and for UM's sake, take your hate-filled rants somewhere else.

You can discuss whatever you would like about FIU or whatever, but don't think for a second that you can come around here and attack one of our fellow posters.

I, for one, think you have outstayed your welcome as soon as you started take things to a personal level. Back off.

Amen "Thechampionunderdog and Joel" !!!!

Bad news guys...Just heard FCB Miami just dropped their bid for a MLS team...They say the economic times makes this bid risky...=(

Barcelona and Claure let us down, plain and simple. They got cold feet. Did they really not see these economic difficulties before? Who are they trying to kid? They knew about this. They knew about the $40 million fee. And NOW, in the LAST COUPLE WEEKS they bring this up? Give me a break. They backed out of their commitment, gave us all high hopes and left us out to dry. They had it in the bag! They were the frontrunners! And they let it go... Now we have to wait for God knows how long before we get an MLS team... if we ever get one. This might have been our best shot and they ruined it.

Why is today's article titled "FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL...."

I thought they were suppose to be called FIU always

Joel - are you for real? It is people like you that make me want to continue to post. You think b/c you tell me I am being disrespectful that I am going to just stop. i think it is pretty distasteful for the mom of a player to come on a community blog and take up time with the coach just so she can be told her son got a gold star in workouts. So, since she did that, I am not allowed to post me feelings about it. Listen bro, you can post anything you want about me, it has been done here in the past, all I do is respond. I have never told someone to stop posting, unless I am telling them that their posts have no understandable thoughts and they should stop until they learn the english language. but I always invite them back once they get hooked on phonics. So again Joel, I ask you, are you serious?

Everyone .. you have known since Day one that CC would take those shots even from back at the days of "FIU Mom" etc. just ignore the comments whats it really goin to do...

CC dont think me saying this puts me in your corner.. from your original post i can understand what your saying that the coach will always talk up his player especially to parents.. whether its true or not (i dont know either way) but seriously dude.. have some F*ing Respect, not to an FIU fan but to a Mother man. i dont knwo you i dont know your family but im pretty D*mn Sure that you wouldnt want someone putting your mother down when all she is stating that she is proud of you.. seriously guy be a man and show some respect. if you want to attack fans be my guest.. thats what blogs are for but the moment you put some1 down for pride of their own.. you become the low class that everyone here has been calling you.. i think your better than that.. reguardless of the FIU breatheren think.. however putting down a mother for showing her pride.. drops you down a notch.. that Sh*t belongs elsewhere. so seriously guy talk football bash the team and more than likely most of us will do the same.. but leave the personal vendeta you have against the mom's on this site in your room and away from your keyboard.

CC-

Since obviously you are an expert on the product(hooked on phonics) you should make the ditch diggers (90% of the scUM fans I see at the stadium)aware of where they can purchase it.

Ha ha ha ha ha Miami. Miami sucks.

You never going to get MLS only in your dreams.

Vancouver yes!!
Portland Yes!!

Die Miami!!!!!

Ok, listen everyone, I am sorry for my sons actions. Sometimes he goes to far. He really is a nice boy. I remember when he was little, he used to run arund the house wearing his green and orange, but at that time, he only hated UF. Just so you all know, no, he didn't go to UM, but I do not think there is a bigger fan than him of the Hurricanes. I promise all of you, I will sit him down and talk to him about the stuff he writes on this blog thing, it is horrible. I hope he does not read this, because he will kill me, but when he was applying to schools, FIU was at the top of his list. He didn't get in, maybe that is where some of his hate comes from. So please from this mother, do not take anything he says to much to heart, deep down he is just a sad boy. Thank you for your time everyone.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! That is the funniest crap ever posted. I do not know if that is really CC's mom, but if it is, thank you for making me laugh today mam. Your son is a punk, at least you recognize that.

crazypanther... come on man you know thats not his momma coming on here.. now i wonder what he is goin to say that some1 did that "o pete everyone is saying to get me out but where is your "claw" when it comes to fake named people picking on me" something along those jists...

CJ - you are wrong - I am not going complain to Pete, I am not even going to try and lie, that is my mom. I understand where she was comming from, trying to help. She sees me sometimes get so worked up over this blog, she wants to help. I have no problem with anything she said, other than FIU being at the top of my list. Also, I did get into FIU, my mom is mistaken, I did not get into FSU.

As to you CrazyPanther, i do not see how you have my mom calling me a punk in her post, but whatever. I guess I will clean up my act a little now that I know my mom is reading the blog.

FYI CC, it is not distasteful that i went on this blog to ask coach how my son is doing. We live in N. FL which is 6 hours away from Miami and don't get a chance very often to discuss issues with the coaches. They are very busy people. I just wanted to know since he was on the "live" blog how he thought Joey was doing. I feel that there was nothing wrong with that. No more than any other blogger on this site asking about the condition of some of the other players. I am sorry that you feel that way...

wow now im starting to wonder if that's really cc's mom, hmmmm nahhh i know better than that.

CC's mom: that was by far one of the funniest posts i have ever read on this blog. Thank you very much!! Jajajajajajajaja
