It's A Start

Base On my personal national holiday today -- Opening Day -- but checked the old e-mail in the morning and got this from FIU photographer Sam Lewis:

Sam writes: Did you happen to catch this?  FIU's baseball team received a vote in Bunt
the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.

Considering the Panthers baseball program has been in the dark the last 7 years, this is a start. Now, I'm not saying let's start the parade from SW 8 Street and 112 Avenue all the way east to downtown Miami or book a flight to Omaha just yet, but it's been a long time since FIU baseball was 19-8 after 27 games -- which is 1 game shy of the halfway mark of the season -- and received recognition in the national poll.

We'll have a mid-season look at the Panthers on the next post.

according to board of trustees $1million given to fieldhouse Kirk Landon donated the $

1time for KIRK LANDON!!!!!!!!!!! You are the KING

THANK YOU, MR. LANDON!!

And yeah it's great to be officially be recognized by the poll by SOMEONE! Hopefully more votes will follow. We just gotta take care of our own business and WIN baseball games! Can't wait for tomorrow's game! GO FIU!!!

Mr. Landon, the GPC (Golden Panther Community) is eternally grateful.

As for the baseball team, keep winning!

Great news on the vote and the money.

anybody watch the canes take the series from a real team this weekend???

anybody see the canes beat a real team this weekend??

If you have nothing FIU related to say, go back to the UCG blog and bask in the ambience of yourselves...

And who are you to discount WKU? Wasn't it you guys who had trouble putting away Barry University? Take a hike.

Awesome stuff!!!

You mean a real bad team... Only at #25 in 1 poll, they're real dominant this year..... WKU would smoke UM and FSU.... The way c-UM has been giving up bombs, WKU would have had a field day bc they smash...

THANK YOU MR. LADNON

I hope we can keep our foot on the gas and start earning more votes...

I am sure that if we win the series at MTU then we will have their 7 votes.

GPP Nation, we go back and forth with them on this rivalry issue. Do they (UM) benefit from playing us in football? No. Do they benefit from playing Charleston Southern? They must say yes, because that's who they rather play, however logic dictates, NO! Do they benefit from playing us in hoops? No. Do they benefit from playing Barry, Florida Memorial and Florida Southern? They must think so, because that's who they rather play rather than playing FIU. Once again logic dictates NO! So logic is NOT in play in this decision.

FIU no longer needs them either. GUYS THEY ARE IRRELEVANT TO US NOW! We control our own destiny with our conference AND OUT OF CONFERENCE SCHEDULE. Who would rather play, a UM team that was 7-6 or the National Champs Gators? GATORS, ANY DAY AND TWICE ON TUESDAYS! How about hoops. Rather play, an NIT UM team or the National Champs Carolina Tar Heels? CHECK OUT MY "TUESDAY" STATEMENT ABOVE! Let me repeat, they mean NOTHING to us! When we were in the TACC and their sports program meant something, yes FIU needed them and they didn't need us. For now, let the series thing die down. I'd rather take my chances with LEGITIMATE competition rather than a program living in the past! Next year's road-trip GAINESVILLE & CHAPEL HILL! YOU GUYS IN??

GO FIU!!!

I'm in!!...LOL....Great news by Landon and his generous gift to the FIU Stadium new fieldhouse...read that as well in the Board of Trustees page: http://bot.fiu.edu/uploads/file/033109_Full_Board_Agenda1.pdf

Ouch...story on Pete Garcia is a bit of a black eye.

That's what you get when you have a person that is extremely passionate at what they do.

Some people I have worked with in the past where A-holes because they would act like the smallest mistake was the end of the world. But ultimately, it would force you to be extra careful just to not get bitched-at.

Well, I hope PG can change his management w/o changing his passion/intensity for getting FIU to where he wants us get.

Pete:

Don't understand how this story about PG gets printed ? Outside of the very small group of employees and student/athletes that interact with him, this is just irrelevant to be published and awful PR for FIU. Thanks ???

Don't get me wrong, I know PG and he knows me. I don't have a high opinion of him as a person, however he is a results guy and loves what he does. He is a polarizing figure and has created much resent at FIU, but this is a university issue.

Why would we want to air this dirty laundry ??

I'm sure the folks at FIU that dislike him, take pleasure in this story...I know many of the stories and get their "beef" with him & his style. The Miami Herald is just not the venue to handle this.

There is a BIG difference between censorship and discretion.

FIU is on the rise!

I hope this doesn't mean that PG will leave and don't finish what he started. I think what happens is again him trying to change the culture of the school. he likes to get things done and probably doesn't accept excuses, and we know how things were in the past.
I am sure that if those employees would do their assignment right then he would've not reacted that way.
I hope PG can find people that can take the heat and work with him to keep improving our athletic program, because I really dont want to get back to the previous style.

What was the past in FIU didnt amount to much. So now we have a guy that gets the job done. I if the staff were to toughen up and grow up things should continue to improve. I totally aggree with his intensity. If we really do want to be a winning program things need to be done and they need to be done right. If the staff were to take in consideration the goal were trying to reach they might reconsider crying to upper management. And as far as a four day week FIU athletics should be a 24/7 schedule.

DONT CHANGE PETE!

I understand Pete needs to run the story but I don't see much of an issue here, although that's hard to say in absolute terms without knowing the context of his rants or comments. But knowing a little bit about that department, I'd say it has a lot to do with govt workers and hesitancy towards accountability. There's a new sherrif in town and he's doing his job, can that be said of those whining and complaining to the administration? If they were doing their job well maybe they wouldn't be getting b*tched at.

Mandique sure did a number on him with his quote. How can he stay long term with this in air?

I'm sure privately Madique is singing a different tune to PG but publicly he feels he has to come strong or face serious legal consequences against the university. These whiny conplainers just love filing lawsuits and getting free rides. Maybe Obama can bail them out and send them to FAU.

Vamos Miami FC!!

Great to see FIU baseball getting a vote. They keep winning and more votes will follow.

I believe PG just wants to get the job done, many of the staff that may have complained need to understand that his expectations are different from previous AD. Hopefully everyone learns from this experience and dirty laundry doesn't have to be printed on the Herald.

GO FIU!!!

PG was probably reported by that skinny lady at the baseball games that sits there and talks $h!t about everybody from PG - TT. (you guys know who im talking about. toes in the net by the dugout). i sat behind her once and was thinking to myself "what are you doing here lady? either you support fiu or you dont"

The PG article was just a small bomb before the bigger one drops, Think about it... If you you work in athletics you are going to get yelled at, it is a coaching mentality!! So imagine that his antics were bad enough that even in that enviorment he got reprimanded. Trust me on this one he may not see the summer through... and the exscuse that he could do that at Miami was weak and lame!Their is obvioulsy more to it than just that but hey this was a PP story and he is gonna protect PG...

You know that old saying "Attitude reflects leadership," well with the report about PG, is there any doubt now as to why UM is not playing FIU.

I guess JM is not thye only classless person, huh? Where is the uproar against PG and his treatment of his own staff and employees?

You all are such hypocrites it is unbelievable.

Oh, and way to get one vote - did you happen to see who the #5 team in the country is? Franky the cat, it is fans like you, who make rediculous comments, that make the rest of the FIU fans look silly.

The Jimmy Morris Experience ... his really name is Tommy ... his jailmate was Jimmy.

*real

While I'd love to see FIU be a powerhouse in the future, there's no room for lack of professionalism by Pete Garcia. I understand the fact he is passionate about succeeding, but there's a fine line between pushing you employees to do their best and abusing them. Again this is based on the alleged tantrums, if he is not happy with someone's productivity he should politely ask them to step down. I believe he understands he was wrong and apologized, I hope everything settles down and he continues to work hard for FIU for years to come.

Good to see we are at least being considered to get votes at this stage.

As for the PG article, I guess it's a minor thing with Maidique at this point....Saw both PG and Maidique together this weekend in the 3-game baseball series every game. I hope this helps PG change some aspects of his interpersonal skills, as it is evident by this "reprimand" he has to "work" on that....

crazy cane...err..crazy panther...err...the jimmy morris experience....How many alter egos does this guy have?...I have a feeling at least one or two more "posters" come from this guy's very same computer...wow...

Ignoring the whole PG thing for a second, did anyone notice that this is the ESPN Top 25 COACHES POLL? FIU received one vote. Hmmm, I am not a betting man, but if I were, I would bet that the single vote for FIU came from TT. Does anyone out there know if there is a way to check on this?

i think the PG thing is a bit overhyped... i mean i agree while your are in the board room/ office you should have a level of professionalism... however, whats his crime.. he got angry and yelled at an employ and had his Sec. pick up his laundry.. again not professional.. but come on you mean to tell me anyone here has never been yelled at.. or asked to do something they didnt think they had to? some people should just toughen up a bit. lol besides everyone think bout it.. PG is hispanic... us hispanics are known for our tempers lol

anyone know if there is anywhere that i can find video of the spring game?

CrazyCane:

The USA TODAY/ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 31 coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The 2009 board: Terry Alexander, Jacksonville; John Anderson, Minnesota; Ed Blankmeyer, St. John's; Buddy Bolding, Longwood; Roger Cador, Southern; Rob Cooper, Wright State; Sherman Corbett, Texas-San Antonio; Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt; David Eldredge, Southern Utah; Mike Gaski, North Carolina-Greensboro, Nino Giarratano, San Francisco; Gary Gilmore, Coastal Carolina; Keith Guttin, Missouri State; Danny Hall, Georgia Tech; Loren Hibbs, Charlotte; Charlie Hickey, Central Connecticut State; Steve Jaksa, Central Michigan; Rick Jones, Tulane; Steve Kittrell, South Alabama; Ken Knutson, Washington; Kevin Leighton, Manhattan; Gary McClure, Austin Peay; Mervyl Melendez, Bethune-Cookman; Gary Powers, Nevada; Mark Scalf, North Carolina-Wilmington; Jim Schlossnagle, TCU; Matt Senk, Stony Brook; Steve Smith, Baylor; Joe Sottolano, Army; Joe Walsh, Harvard; Mike Weathers, Long Beach State.

Hang from a ROPE you IDIOT !!!

Jimmy/crazycane/ Lover of Jim's jimmy/whatever you want to call yourself... You have been the king of dumb and irrelevant/worthless comments on here, so i wouldnt point out franky. Secondly, TT doesnt vote in that, so CC you lost your bet LOSER. He's not on that board, just go and lookup who is. And the ESPN top 25 coaches poll is the one that holds the most weight, so thanks for pointing that out... When are you guys going to learn, YOUR DUMB, YOU LOOK STUPID ON HERE BECAUSE YOU GET MURDERED EVERYTIME YOU TRY TO BRING SOMETHING UP, so why not just get out of here???? Do i need to start a fight with you to give you an excuse not to come back? Then you can blame it on the brawl.HA!

Let me tell you, Paul Dee was much better. That guy was slapping secretaries with his chins(plural) all day long. JIM MORRIS still has no class, is a dirtbag, backstabber, loser, you name it. Just look at the trends between him and his assistants. He has screwed 3 over so far, has put the blame on a current asst a few years ago and is leaning in that direction again this year, and then there was 1 asst who was smart enough to get out before he could feel the wrath of the Elmer fud look alike..... Maybe paul dee can lend jim morris one of his chins. Paul has too many and jim doesnt have any. You should look into that.

There's 1 common variable in all of those instances, big old JIMBO

c-UM/FIUBlueandGold/FIU Fanatic/FIURage/scUM Sanitizer - you think you are fooling anyone with your 5+ names on this blog - NO.

I will however thank you FIUBlueandGold (since that is the name you decided to post under) for explaining the "coaches poll" to me. I did not know - now I do. But I have to wonder, which retard voted for FIU.

As for starting a fight c-UM, before you start writing checks that your butt can't cash, maybe you should take some tips from PG and pick on people who are smaller, and not in a position of any authority to you, he seems to be good at picking on people beneath him. You starting a fight (and by fight I mean a war of words on the blog, nothing physical that can be deemed a bodily threat) with me would not work out well for you, considering I OWN you.

What an absolute loser. Obsessed with this mytical hypothesis that several screen names are the same poster.

Dude, get treatment seriously. You are getting waaaaaaaayyyy toooooo UPSET over comments on a BLOG.

Pete Pelegrin, sees the IP addresses you RETARD. We are all different folks. You, however, are a BLOGGING SCHIZO !!!

Now go hang a from a short thick ROPE. LOSER !!

LOL...I think I might've hit a nerve on crazy cane/panther, jimmy, etc, etc etc...

I post as FIU Fanatic as only one person in these boards and many others. I don't need to keep changing "handles" to try to make an impression. Eloquence is just based...sometimes on opinions...but mostly based on facts...that alone makes my "handle name" well respected in some boards I visit...no need to keep changing names as it is obvious I caught your different names...weird..

HAHAHA!!!! you're a straight up loser buddy. Only you would do something like that it seems that you have people backing you in the forum. I guess i was typing at 5000 words per minute since my long post is 1 minute after the previous one, you're dumb.....

But maybe you should read baseballamerica's expert post that says he doesnt think miami will be a nation seed. That at best, they will make a regional final, maybeeee a super regional... Werent you the guy ranting about the stupid regional predictions that someone came out with???
Great comeback CC! You havent OWNED anyone. If memory serves me correct, you have been the one who has been dominated in these blogs. There have been numerous times where i have shut u up to the point where you cannot respond. Just go back and reminisce on that for a while sweety.

Oh oh....FUNNY....FIU Fanatic, c-UM, and FIUBlueandGold posted 3 posts at the SAME TIME!!...wow..I'm amazed...as I suspect c-UM and FIUBlueand Gold are as well...how incredibly fast and how many hands we have to post under 3 names at the same time....On the other hand, crazy cane/panther, the jimmy experience, etc....well.......

c-UM - if you have shut me up, why do I get daily posts abouot leaving the blog - wow, that is funny, you claim I left and could not respond, yet other bloggers post about wanting me to leave. It cannot be both smart guy.

As for you FIUBlueandGold calling me a retard, I understand that we are all different people, but if you look back and use the reading skills I know FIU taught you, you would see that I was clearly mocking c-UM for accusing the UM posters on this blog of the same crime. Wow, who is the retard now?

Just because the UM bloggers on this site have the same opinion and arguments does not mean they are the same people. News Flash - we are all CANES fans, so of course we are going to support eachothers arguments and have similar ideas. Wow - you guys really are not that bright that you cannot figure that out on your own.

Pete Garcia shouldn't have yelled at those employees---he should have fired them.

The guy demands productivity and success. If you're not on his FIU train you're going to get run over, simple as that. I think we need more locker room mentality in our boardrooms these days, especially at governmental institutions.

Pete - this guy is a complete waste of time and space on this blog. You should just ban him from here, stating the reason as "ALL AROUND DUMBNESS".... His jokes = dumb, his points = dumb, his multiple names = dumb, him/her/it = dumb... That about sums it up

Yeah, if you use your reading skills (From UM) you will clearly see that the post i was refering to were about 5 minutes apart, from you and you. You used 2 diff sn's that hadnt post on here in a while but suddenly they come on at the same time. HAHAHA!!!! i only say to leave bc you a waste of time. Dont flatter yourself because i have not seen/read not 1 point that you have tried to make that hasnt been disproved or made to look pointless. Goodluck

LMFAO.

I just found a picture of CC at his desk blogging to all of us.....Wow, the advancements in technology that provide this kind of FULL ACCESS is amazing !!!

http://www.bobbyworks.com/images/fat%20man%20at%20computer.jpg

LMFAO.

LOL... He's in his dorm at UM

FIU Baseball keep up the GREAT WORK !!! Couple more weeks and Turtle gets us into the Top 25.

Is there any circumstance that we could host an NCAA Regional ?

I'm not a huge college baseball, but I'm going tonight vs. Stetson.

Doubt it about hosting a regional.... I think we just need to focus on this week. 5 games this week ending in a 3 game series with a really tough MTSU this year. before last weekends fall out, they were knocking on top 25's door. If they would've won 2 of 3 that series, they would of been like 23 or 24... Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Exactly....Good to see some recognition, but there is still a lot of room for improvement for this team....We have a good number of impressive freshmen, plus the All American-types in Townsend and Mollica....We just need to, somehow, find 3 more pitchers we can actually rely upon....We only have 3-4 so far....

BTW, rivals.com's sebaseball.com has now FIU projected to go as an at-large team to a Miami Regional, while perfectgame.com has FIU now ranked #47.....Still way too early...and a lot of baseball to be played, though...We need to find 3 extra pitchers!!

http://www.fiusports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=11700&ATCLID=3713862

I think the problem is that because of burocracy rules and other bs that govermental desk dweller have to protect their "jobs". PG can't fire some of the incompetent people that he has around because they have been seating there breathing air and doing who know what for so long in the past that their jobs are protected. hum, maybe that is why SR is our bball coach.
But I am sure if you are a get it done kind of guy that will enfuriate you. I can't relate to PG on that, but I have the advantage that I can fire an incompetent employee. That is not a pleasant thing to do, but you got to do the best for the business in PG's case the best for FIU Athletics.
I honestly think that 4 days at 10hr is ridiculus. And MM has done some good things for FIU but he is not perfect.
I think all those whinners in the athletic department should ask for a transfer to another place on campus maybe at the parking garage collecting the money or at the book store, folks if it is too hot get out of the kitchen, and let the real chefs cook the meals.
TDAOS!!

I can not speak for anyone concerning PG, I really can't make any judgements on the situation... all I know about is the results and the improvements he has made possible for this program. I just hope that whatever happened has been dealt with, that adjustments were made, and we can ll move forward. Pete needs to stay and continue to do what he is doing here, but employees need to be treated respectfully.

TDAOS indeed!

if the ncaa wanted to bring in some loot, putting FIU in a UM regional along with maybe a florida and somebody else would be $$$$$

Go Turtle and Go FIU Baseball! Pete, if cursing keeps you motivated, carry on!!! We need to bring championships to FIU, the real university in Miami! The best, the only FIU!!!

Does anyone know the score of the baseball game?

Speaking of baseball, does anyone know what's happening in the Stetson game?

Neither of you want to know the score of the game, although there is already an article on fiusports..... They were not in it tonight. It just wasnt the same team we've been seeing

story on PG....hmmmmmm...I'll bite my tongue...

I lot of people here are defending Pete Garcia claiming that he is a winner and demands productivity and results. You dont need to disrespect people to get results. That is what Pete garcia is doing.

I have worked with bad managers before. It is the worst experience in the world. You lose all motivation and feel like sabotaging your bad manager. I have dealt with someone that talked to employees as if he was talking to his kid's or younger sibling. There is no excuse for this type of behavior. None whatsoever. You dont have to disrespect people to get results. Tony Dungy always respected his players and had the respect of his players and got results every year. You do not need to be a jerk to get results. The authoritarian style of management is neither effective or right.

I dont want to get into cultural things here, but this is the typical Cuban Macho behavior that I have encountered so many times in the workplace. You treat everyone under you like crap, you pick favorites and then you take credit for all the work. As far as I know the coaches have more to do with the results than the AD does.

Alt-

If you do not like Cubans you might want to move because odds are you will always work for one!

Tough game last night, we have ZERO mid-week pitching ?? This will hurt us the SBC tourney and NCAAs. We need a 3rd legit starter that can get us thru 6 or 7 innings without giving up 5 or 6 runs...

Excuse me alt7787, your points were credible until your idiocy of stereotyping your so-called "Cuban-Management" style. After that statement your argument was null and void.

You personally might of had bad experiences with one or maybe numerous "Cuban" managers, however to type cast all management who may be Cuban or American of Cuban descent is quite ignorant. What you need is to find a new boss or better yourself and become management yourself.

Wow, was VERY disappointed by the list of candidates for FIU President! I truly hope NONE of those individuals are considered. At this stage of FIU's development, the next Prez could be the person that takes the next step in making FIU the next UCLA. UCLA has been our benchmark for the last twenty years.

FIU needs a global leader that will bring an infusion of revenue from OUTSIDE of S. Florida for our research, development, etc. UM did a good thing by hiring President Shalala, despite her leftist views because of her extensive network throughout the US and beyond. This list in today's Herald was EXTREMELY poor! Wow, I'm shocked!

GO FIU!!!

Sometimes, it is just to easy and things are better left unsaid.

sometimes it is *too* easy crazycane... two o's in that context.

R u serious TheChampionUnderdog? You know what, I guess it is never tOO easy not to take a chance to slap FIU in the face.

How can anyone be shocked or surprised at the lack of interest in working at FIU? it is not a good school with a great national reputation - just accept is FIU Fans. You all are losers and the educated nation as a whole knows it.

As for the athletic department, maybe your AD should stop being a dictator and start having some conversations with his fanbase. You all are so delusional. You win a few games against subpar talent, and all of the sudden to are talking about going to a regional. Give me a break. You get one vote in a coaches poll, and all of the sudden you are wondering when you'll be in the top 25. Get a clue. You just got worked by Stetson - you may be decent is the SunBelt, but as far a nationally, FIU has a looooooooong way to go in every sport, not just baseball.

I am so sick of FIU fans on this blog who think you are a sleeping giant and that TDAOS - seriously you all, get a grip. FIU is nothing. A few weeks ago Jay Leno even made fun of your acedemic reputation. How does that feel.

Now I know the counterargument is, UM, thug U, convicts, etc etc etc, but that does not change the fact that it is nationally recognized as one of the better schools in the country.

Yes, FIU is very affordable - if that is all you have going for you, good luck. Last time I checked, most of the big time student athletes are on scholarship - so the affordability factor is actually a nonfactor. So, no tell me the allure of FIU to the 5 star athlete? Can't, I know, it is hard. There is none. Why would a five star athlete want to go to a school in the west kendall far from anything remotely exciting? Unless you count the Youth Fair which is the largest employer of FIU graduates. Maybe that is the reason for the 5 star athlete to attend FIU, he can operate the merry go round or the big swings.

Big two weeks of Baseball coming up:

We need 2 of 3 against Middle Tennessee

We also need 2 of 3 against New Orleans

It would be huge to have 25 Wins before we face the Wild Cats (Bethune).. Realistically we can finish with 35+ wins in the regular season. Wow!

Once again FIU Fans need to make an effort to be out in the stadium (finally painted) for this two series coming up.. Good Luck to TT and the Boyz..

By the way spoke with someone close to Pete Garcia, and it seems this will only make him into a better A.D.. His here to stay!

Gooch7 - "His here to stay" I think you meant He is here to stay!

You should really watch that and make sure that your spelling and grammer is always correct on this blog or else people like TheChampionUnderdog will call you out b/c he has no life and cannot post anything of meaning.

CrazyCane, get a life dude! Your rude and worthless comments aren't welcome here. An FIU grad can take on the likes of you and any other UM grad anytime, academically and athletically. I'm rather amused that Jay Leno poked fun at FIU, I happen to like the guy. Which is more than I can say for Miami fans who get their panties in a twist anytime FIU gains an advantage or gives the appearance of gaining a competitive edge in academics and sports. That's the reason you're here anyway, isn't it? Your comments are just another example of what can happen when a Miami fan goes off his medication. Another bandwagoner off his medication, now that's entertaining.

Chrisfiu,

did you not see the image of CrazyCane I found yesterday ? This is his life...Can it be any worse. He's purpose in life is to bash FIU and pretend that being a fan of school he never attended gives him purpose in life...

http://www.bobbyworks.com/images/fat%20man%20at%20computer.jpg

No wonder CrazyCane is mad at the world...not only that, but CandyCane realizes that UM is FIU's ugly twin sister and he's out to avenge the hag! That's a battle you're losing buddy...

Wow Chrisfiu - you are really showing of the FIU education with your last few posts. Keep up the good work. Just hope any potential FIU President doesn't read this blog and realize what the current and/or former student body is like. If they do, you may never get a new qualified Pres.

As for UM being FIU's ugly twin sister, they are twins smarty, so they look alike, but assuming for a moment you meant fraternal twins, so they did not look alike (which i know you are not smart enough to have thought of) I would rather be the ugly sister with all the Nat'l Championships and national recognition than the pretty sister who thinks they are so cool they do not even realize the rest of the world is making fun of them and hates them.

"I am so sick of FIU fans on this blog who think you are a sleeping giant and that TDAOS - seriously you all, get a grip. FIU is nothing. A few weeks ago Jay Leno even made fun of your acedemic reputation. How does that feel."

AND CRAZYCANE IS WORRIED ABOUT MY EDUCATION? As I said before, your rude and pointless comments aren't welcome here.

Good one. You really got me Chrisfiu. I am going to leave this blog forever b/c of what you posted, you really put me in my place.

sniff....sniff...

I smell fear.....

For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who don’t, no explanation is possible.

I love this blog, the kind of rant people post here are so entertaining. This guy comes on an FIU blog, calls the fans delusional in his first 4 paragraphs, then proceed to say that UM is nationally recognized as one of the better schools in the nation. Congratulations poster that's a punch line even Jay Leno would be proud of.

Hello everyone:

I have been rather worried about the FIUGoldenPanthers.com forum not being up for a while so I have decided to create a new message board to be used temporarily. Below you'll find the link:

http://fiusports.proboards.com/index.cgi

Feel free to go on there and post as if it was the old one.

Next two weeks are crusial. Need to get 2 of 3 from Middle Tennessee, and 2 of 3 from U.N.O.

We can have 25 wins before we play the Wild Cats (Bethune)

I think finishing the season with 35 wins is also an amazing goal.

FIU Fans needs to start heading to the stadium and support Turtle and the Boyz..

Go F.I.U.

Having problems Posting.. Don't know why!!

The more C Cane post, the more I feel that he/she is a COMPLETE idiot! Sometimes, rarely but sometimes he'll/she'll say something that actually makes sense, then he loses his/her Hooked-On-Phonics tape and some of that extremely remedial writing skills take over.

C. Cane, ask your mommy if she knows where your tapes are.

you know what i love FIU but the truth is that we have a long way to go. I am a current student and i often wonder how certain people in my classes were admitted into the university. Listening to some people present essay's or powerpoints is like listening to a junior high school student. Its ridiculous. It is embarrasing. I know this is due to FIU being Miami dade community college part 2(yes it is still a community college, a 4 year degree in 2 or 3 programs does not quite cut it). However, i am glad that the school is cutting down on this problem by making admissions standards higher. A 2.0 GPA and 1000 on the SAT will no longer cut it. GOOD.

I know FIU is florida INTERNATIONAL university, but the school needs to make a larger effort to attract students from countries outside of Latin America. FIU does boast a large "international" population, however its from the usual latin american countries which in turn makes FIU look no different than what it actually is. The good thing about UM is that they attract not only out of state students, but international students from Europe, Asian and of course latin america.

FIU has a long way to go. Athletics is only one part. Academics definitely need a good boost. and I hope that our new president will focus on that. Madiques problem was that he undertook a variety of projects, but never finished them. furthermore, he often lacked adequate funding for them and hired people that didnt know what they were doing to oversee operations. Athletics is a prime example of this. I fear that our medical school will face the same problem. Everyone likes to put their heads up high that we have a medical school, but what people ignore is the fact that it lacks so much funding and is going to operate with barely any resources. The law school seems to be going well, however it also has a long way to go.

alt7787,

I'm glad that you love FIU, although based on your post, I could argue differently. My suggestion to you is that you pay closer attention to your responsibilities as a student rather than point your finger at other students who maybe aren't at your level just yet. FIU's image will change one student at a time, so do your part.

It's a given that FIU has many young athletic programs, but we're making strides in each category. Baseball, football, swimming, and the list goes on. But if you think FIU lacks academically, maybe you need to take a closer look at your soon-to-be alma mater. While at FIU I met many bright students with diverse backgrounds and ambitious goals. Maybe your experience is limited to your major, or perhaps you need to expand your network. In any case, if FIU is Miami Dade part 2 as you so eloquently put it, I suggest you transfer back to Miami Dade, which I happen to think is a good school. At least you won't be in a school that pretends to be Miami Dade, you can attend the real thing.
