Game 5: FIU vs. WKU LIVE BLOG

BOWLING GREEN, KY. -- So is this where your Panthers start to turn the season around? It won't be asFiuhelmet easy as it might seem on paper as you read in yesterday's post about all the poor rankings for Western Kentucky.

The Hilltoppers have a new QB in Kawaun Jakes, who gave life to their offense lastWku week. FIU needs the defense that made the trips to Tuscaloosa and Piscataway to show up here in Bowling Green.

Our local weather bunny or wherever Jackie is from, was 33 percent correct in her Saturday forecast for Bowling Green. After a cold, dreary, rainy day on Friday, it is still cold and dreary, but it has not rained today. Regardless, we won't hold it against Jackie.

Gray, cold skies and temperature at 47 degrees (sitting in an open air pressbox)  to begin tonight's game at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium -- which by the way Houchens Industries is the local supermarket chain in these here neck of the woods. The Publix of Kentucky. The Panthers hope to make shopping a pleasure here in Bowling Green.

Time for FIU to get it going....

this is a high school Jamberee

You write, and therefore you are a high school drop-out...

FIU wins today...a win is a win is a win guys....

dan would know, he's still in high school.

Looks like we're 1-4, 1-1 in conference play. Not bad, FIU!! Our offense finally woke up, putting up 37 pts (1 less than I predicted).

Looking forward to the Troy game next week. This will be a tough match considering Troy just destroyed Middle Tenessee and are now 2-0 in conf play and will be coming to our house with a lot of momentum.

Nevertheless, great job by our guys bringing in their first win of the season.

Go FIU!!

**Troy...is now 2-0

Big win! Bring on the Trojans! Bring everyone you know to FIU on Saturday!

Congrats Fraud International University on your first win of the season and your lone win for the next decade. It is, it always has been, and it always will be all about Da U!

Thank you scUM doUche !! Have another drink while you're at it.

All of us can only imagine what an absolute PATHETIC loser U must be, to toss hate on our BLOG about a young program working hard to make it's students and alums proud of our University.

Get lost scUMbag !!

FIUer that stinking FIU defense couldn't hold a teenage girls flag football team to 2 points. Get real...your football knowledge is a JOKE a bad JOKE at that, UWK 42 FIFLUKE 14

If 'stupid' could be heard you would be louder than the FAMU Marching 100. scUM bag.

Congrats Fraud International University on your first win of the season and your lone win for the next decade. It is, it always has been, and it always will be all about Da U!

Congrats to UM for thier big win against FAMU. The "U" is a joke. Stop running from your younger, bigger brother. All you can do is talk about the "old" days and do everything you can to avoid us. U look silly. U scared. U should be.

Hey Crazy turd, how do you like that win by Florida over #4 LSU?? Let's compare apples to apples, shall we? Still think Florida can only beat cupcake teams? If that's the case, Miami should also be on their schedule! Considering Tebow wasn't 100%, I'd say the 13-3 win is pretty impressive.

But enough about Florida, good job on the win over FAMU!! Go ahead and beat your chest about your mighty canes. Who's next, St. Mary's School for the Blind??

these kitties are just a bunch of haters.
How do you compare to UM.
You just beat WKU and they are not better than FAMU.
I did not go to UM, and I don't root for them either but just seeing how delusional you are makes me sick to my stomach.
I can't even imagine how annoying you would be if you ever win the SunBelt, Shula Bowl or even get an invite to a bowl and win it.
Your ego is so big, but blinding at the same time.
desTROY the kitties!

outsider, shut your pie hole!! If you don't root for duh U, then what's it to you that we bash those clowns? Fool don't come back talking smack until you can back it up!

chrisfiu - if only FIU could play WKU every week. Are you kidding dude? WKU maybe the only team in the country worse than you. I was going to let "FIU fan" enjoy their first win of the season (even if it was against 11 girls and a blind kid) but you just ruined any chance of that. Yes UM beat a weak FAMU team tonight (who was undefeated by the way) but last time I checked FIU has not beat anyone with a pulse whereas MIAMI has beat Fl State / Ga Tech / Oklahoma (all teams in the top 25 when beaten) My friend, your post shows your lack of knowledge and football IQ. Go back to cheering for soccer or whatever FIU is somewhat decent at.

And as for the fake CrazyCane - kill yourself.

Err...weren't we on the UF topic??? Oh, that's right, can't hit that topic b/c Florida won against true competition...weren't you the one talking crap last week about Florida only beating cupcakes??? As opposed to Miami, with their one-point margin victory over an OK team who had their star QB out?? I wouldn't be too cocky about that victory over FSU either. The Noles aren't looking too impressive out there and probably won't until they get rid of Bowden. Had that receiver held on to the ball with 4 seconds remaining, you'd be singing a different tune. Heck even FSU fans like Fomenter acknowledge the lack of talent on that team.

Isn't FAMU a D-II school?

Pete, now that we beat WKU and have returned to our winning ways, if we run the table, any chance we could crack the Top 25 and make a claim to go to a NYD bowl?

I think FAMU is D1, but part of the subdivision.

Why are you guys comparing UF and UM. We get it UM isn't on UF's level yet and FIU isn't on UM's level. And of course UF is scared to play UM and Um is scared to play FIU. Is that all?

Now that we got that through, congrats Golden Panthers on the win and good luck building on it for your game against Troy next weekend. Should be a good one. I predict plenty of offense.

Also I think FIU should start playing those weekday games in order to raise their national profile. Pete, do you know if there are any talks of games during the week happening in the future? What do you fans think about the idea?

yea, i think as fans we should be eating some humble pie... good to see we got a win that we were expected to get but there are plenty of issues that still needs to be shored up.

Not to mention all the injuries starting to add up...

Looking forward to Troy... home game... if we bring our A game I think it could get interesting.

Anyways, good to get the win today and in sound style. Go Panthers!

LOL...Congrats FIU..let's see how the poll react to your win over WKU there should be some separation in the polls..that bottom 10 was getting very competitive let's hope the voters take a look at strength of schedule and award FIU the 2nd worst team in the nation. Good Luck and go panthers!

CrazyCane:
As far as I know fiu won 2 national championships in soccer, but they were playing Division II. They are not good in soccer anymore!
D-1A is a totally different story in soccer.

OK, we got the monkey off our back, but we still need a lot of improvement, our running defense was awful, we let the worst offensive team rush for 263 yards, and score 20 points.
Good thing is that we wont without TY, I hope he will be healthy next week, but I like the way Frierson has stepped up this year, Times needs to touch the ball some more.
Coaching, well if we are up by almost 20 in the 4th quarter, why don't let the second and third stringers get some game experience, Schirripa needs to play some, same goes for Harris, Pooh Bear, and the other freshmen and sophemores, they need to have some motivation, and we need to protect our starters so they can play next week, we don't have off days.
I hope now they get hungry and greedy for mroe wins, rather than just comforming with beating WKU.

Great to get a victory up there in the cold... we needed this one really badly. Good way to get ourselves back into before a string of tough games coming up. A win against Troy is a must-win to prove we have what it takes to compete for the Sun Belt Title... For now let's just enjoy this victory, let the haters hate, and enjoy the rest of the week before going out there for a huge game against Troy! GO FIU!!!

FInally a good, not great but good showing we still have a lot of work but im glad to see the team step up and finally secure a win against a team we are suppose to. ... please o please lets not start pounding our chest and putting down other teams loss's... we are better than that. i hope TY is ok.. but its good to see some other guys step up

I never blog on boards,I always considered it a wast of time. I do enjoy reading the sports page on line and I love when the local teams do well. I think this back and forth about FIU and UM is absolutely uncalled for. You have two school who are in the same city both coaches are young and talented, both played with each other and coached together. Instead bashing each other these schools should come together and show the Nation that the best football is in Miami.

If UM is on the road fans should support FIU and vice versa. It make not sense to split fans in a market that is weak in supporting sports on a whole. There is no rivalry here, UM will for now get the best from the local schools, but there not enough scholarship for UM to get them all and what better endorsement would it be for Randy to say hey I have no room for you but Mario is a friend and FIU is a great program, we share the same fans and you will be in good hands.
You guys should think about this before you bash each other. In he economic time each school could benefit by showing a little respect and support for each other for the city of Miami.

*these economic times

***lots of era's trying to do this from phone but i think you guys understand what i mean

Great win for our team! GO PANTHERS!

Everyone invite everyone you know to Saturday's game, we need a sell-out! GO PANTHERS!

You like using my name and posting eh FAKE scUMsanitizer. I know it must be hard to wake up every morning and seeing just yourself staring back. Confused as to the purpose of your existence. Feeling like you don't really belong with anyone, any group, any team, any school. Just being a floppy slop of flesh with a laptop is tough but suck it up and grow a pair mini man.

How pathetic crazy cane/panther/NY/MIA Josh...and now the fake sanitizer's live should be. To incorporate so many monikers here to try and....I don't know what is his motivation....simply someone with a low level of self esteem, whose only chance of redemption in life is adopting several blog personalities...pobrecito....

Someone needs to do something about all these fake posters. My head's hurting. :)

Finally, we're off the schnide. Amen and hallelujah. I don't care if it was against probably the worst FBS team in the country. It's nice to get a win. I'm kind of pissed that WKU scored 20, but considering how bad the D's been the last two weeks, I guess it had to be expected. Especially since their new QB is the type who gives FIU problems.

Anyway... nice to see McCall have a good game. Where are the haters? Huh? I don't see any of you "WY should start" idiots out there. Come out, come out wherever you are...

Time to get ready for Troy. I'm not sure yet who I'm going to pick for this one. I guess it'd be nuts to pick FIU, but Lord knows this team's talented enough to win the Belt, and to do that, winning all the games at the Cage is an absolute must. Hope this "blackout" turns out well.

Chris,

We were extremely lucky to even be in that position against UM. We held a whole lot and we got away with it, especially on that last drive.

Regarding LSU, they aren't "true competition". Overall, they are overrated and have played a schedule full of soft teams. I wouldn't get too excited about Florida struggling to beat them last night. When they face a team with an offense, they could be in trouble since they are really missing Percy and have no real threats at WR.

As far as FSU is concerned, we've been in trouble for years, ever since 2002, but our fanbase hasn't seen it for a long, long time and it's almost comical that some of us are *just* starting to come around now.

Your writing style is off FAKE scUMsanitizer. You’re going to have to spend EVEN MORE time on this blog studying my idiosyncrasies….quick REFRESH, I may have just posted again….any way, by the time you master the scUMsanitization you’ll probably be sanitizing scUM yourself, probably even sanitizing yourself under a different moniker. Oh boy, this could get confusing for you, I’d hate to hear you were looking in a mirror as scUMsanitizer and blew your head off with a sawed-off shotgun because you saw CANDY CANE staring back at you. I would really hate that…well, hate is a strong word, maybe I’d just be discontent.

Great to get our first win of the season. Hopefully, we string a few more wins together to make a run at the conference championship.

Food for thought: WKU is going to be a pain in the neck in a few years. It appears that they are investing a lot of money into their athletic programs, do a good job in recruiting, and have a nice fan base. It'll just make the conference better.

Damn you are refreshing every other minute aren't you fake scUMsanitizer. You're a bigger FIU fan than me!

FIU get's a W and now scUMcanitizer is losing his mind and talking to himself.

Baltimore Panther, i agree 100%. We do need for some of our 2nd, 3rd string guys to play more and step it up!! I don't know if u saw the game on the WKU website, but Harris #86 did play. I saw him in all thru out the game. Especially in the last couple mins. of the game on offense. I spoke to him after the game and he was excited about the win! and that he got a chance to play. He did agree that he needs to do better, but was glad he had the chance to play and I was very proud of him!! he also mentioned that TY seems to be fine. But they won't know till he gets his MRI today. Hopefully he's ok..

KJ, congrats to Joey and really the entire team on their first win of the season! Job well done! As for TY, I sure hope he's ok. We don't need any more injuries considering we're about to face a tough opponent in Troy next week.

Fomenter,

Other than Mississippi State and Georgia, I agree that LSU was overrated coming into Saturday's game. As far as the score goes, UF was playing a conservative game by not allowing Tebow to run the ball too much (if at all), what with his recent injury and all. And remember that LSU has a solid defense, but I would venture to say Florida would've beaten LSU by a larger margin had they played more aggresively and had they been able to execute their passing game more effectively. The real challenge for the Gators would be a possible matchup against Alabama in the SEC Championship game, but there's still too much football left to speculate about a possible matchup between two teams with a great running game and the best defense in the country.

As far as the FSU game, sure you guys held your own, but Miami was a few seconds away from losing that game. The top 10 landscape would look different for Miami had that ball been caught, no question about it.

You guys should think about this before

Good post Fins4life... unfortunately we have many people that actually make time to write garbage on this forum.

scumsanitizer

How in the world do you think one win over WKU and a possible win over Troy will be worthy of a top 25 ranking? Are you that clueless?..please tell me you are joking if not it really explains the problem with FIU fans. They are learning from scratch...how sad.

Thanks FIU Rage you Guys should ignore the nonsense.

Pete, any updates on FIU basketball recruiting? Also, what's the story with Chris Coleman in the '11 class? ESPN shows he decommitted from FIU? I'm sure it's true, any idea why?

I saw the same thing Carolina GP, I've been worried about it ever since!

Dan,

You're answering to FAKE scumsanitizer's post, which in all honesty you're probably just talking to yourself...

How are those balls tasting today?

Dan – Your response to the shear ludicrousness of that fake scUMsanitizer post pretty much spells it out. It’s pretty sad that you’re going around an FIU blog with multiple personalities just to try to boost your importance. You’re not very clever, nor humorous, nor logical. So what is your point here? You must be one wretched little dude.

quijote

What are you?

thanks, chrisfiu! i agree, we don't need anymore injuries...lets just hope they practice hard this week and give Troy a run for their money!! GO FIU!

Dan,

If you weren't another scUMbag with a $100k student loan debt you'd know hahaha.

Why are you guys comparing UF and UM. We get it UM isn't on UF's level yet and FIU isn't on UM's level. And of course UF is scared to play UM and Um is scared to play FIU. Is that all?...

Finally, someone willing to admit the truth. Very refreshing. Of course, the post was written by a Gator and not a 'Cane. And Fins4life, I hear you plea, but it only makes sense for fans that have no affiliation with either university. Like the relationship pro football fans have with thier teams. They cheer for their team because they represent their city or its the team they grew up cheering for. But that doesn't hold for alumni. Why would an FIU alum support UM athletics, when UM has done nothing through the years for FIU except trying to keep FIU down and diminished? It's the same thing going on today with football--UM fans and administrators are trying to pretend FIU doesn't exist or is simply 'inferior' and not worth playing, when in fact, FIU is:

1. a much larger university,
2. a better academic university in many, many fields of study, and has been for years,
3. a much less expensive university for Floridians to attend (10x less expensive), and
4. much, much more representative of the general population of greater Miami than UM could ever dream of. Most of UM's students are from out-of-state!

FIU's quality has always spoken for itself, and there is absolutely nothing that UM could or can do to stop it, no matter how hard it tries. The latest ploy to simply run away from FIU in athletics will not work either.

The general public of Miami has been duped by UM for years, and it's time for Miami's real university to be recognized and appreciated.

How 'bout them Yankees!

SouthPaw, you forgot #5, which should really be #1.

5. a university with much, much, MUCH finer honey bunnies.

good post fins4life. a lot of these guys are just coming on here to get everyone riled up. agree that we need to ignore the nonsense and support the locals.

southpaw, our time will come. just chill and keep your head high even if some weeks will be easier than others :-).

quijote - no doubt about it, very nice bunnies! Should definitely be #1 on that list.

When it comes to the ladies, I'm not sure there's many universities that can keep up with FIU....the Brazilians, wow.

FSU used to be a all girls school, and they have tons of beautiful women up there.

Yes FSU is A+ but it's a different type of quality...not as exotic.

We all ignored someone's comment which I think was brilliant....lets play in those mid-week games.

I watch them all no matter who is playing because there is nothing else on TV.

That is the only way we can get TY, I mean the team, any publicity and buzz. If we can get on TV, it would help recruting as well as prob get the team pumped up.

It was just a thought someone posted...I thought it was worth revisiting as I think it is a fantastic idea if PG can pull it off....especially if its a home game to show off the CAGE

I wish both school success. It seems there is a great sense of arrogance and stupidity on both sides out 826. Hopefully in time and with a little more maturity we all can grow and appreciate the vision that I explained earlier.

UCLA and USC is in the same situation. USC is a private small school near Watts with not as much to offer, but a history and tradition attracts the best football recruits like UM.

UCLA is like FIU with a bigger campus more student ect. they also have a great basketball tradition which attracts the best of the best to UCLA. These school compete yearly but there is not a nasty hate for each other.

I would also like to point out the fact that there a lot of UM fans at FIU and it seems wise to not alienate them but invite them to support their own team as well. The key not trying to find the group of people like myself who enjoy sports and want to support our local teams..On that note I will be at the Troy game with my family if I survive the Jets Dolphins duel tonight. Good Luck and Let's beat Troy!!!

**The key is in trying to find the group of people like myself who enjoy

I agree with you 100% Fins4Life...Good post.

A must read!!

GO FIU!

We need as many fans as possible for the Troy game on Saturday! Bring everyone you know!

Pete,

What is going on with the rushing defense? Is it a problem with the D-line having a push, are the linebackers overpursuing, or is it a coaching/discipline issue?

If there's one thing I didn't expect coming into the season, it was getting run over by every team we've faced.

FSU and UT have some amazing looking girls at their schools. The majority of which look like they belong on Maxim. That being said, the variety of girls you see at FIU is to die for.

Great post, Fins4life!! Hope you enjoy your visit to our game....A question for you...have you already attended an FIU home game, or is this your first time?

I went the Maryland game in the OB. I was invited by an ex NFL player that worked in the community outreach dept of FIU. We took a group of kids from the church and had a blast. But no one from the FIU followed up after he left the program. I can't recall his name but a super great guy..

Whats the deal with TY is he going to be ok ? Im going to check facebook.

Rehabing ...

Thanks for the info, Fins4life, and thanks for supporting the 'other' local program. Hope you and your family have a good time at FIU....would be better if you can see a win....

Thanks..Good Luck

Arroyo to the Heat!!! Good luck to him.

Good to see Carlos Arroyo join the Heat. I know he's been waiting for this opportunity to play at home...

Good luck Carlos!
