Florida Memorial vs. FIU Hoops LIVE BLOG

Helmetlogo It's the home opener for your Panthers basketball team after a rough start on theFmu road. A battle of the cats tonight from FIU's U.S. Century Bank Arena.

The Florida Memorial Lions (right) drove down the Palmetto Expressway to FIU's first home game under first-year coach Isiah Thomas.

We're about 15 minutes before tip-off and keep in mind the same notes for the LIVE hoops BLOG that we have for all the football LIVE BLOGS:

****So that the question is not asked 500 times during the LIVE BLOG, here are your viewing & listening options for today's game:

Blog BLOG: Right here.

Tv VIDEO: Panther Pass at fiusports.com

Radio RADIO: None.

A few reminders for all GPP LIVE BLOGS:

1) The size of the LIVE BLOG window is at its maximum, but the way the blog program works by making the window larger it takes away the scroll button. However, you can still view previous comments by using your arrow keys.

2) There are only 25 spots to be an unmoderated commentator which allows you to post comments without my approval.

If you are 1 of the first 25 to log-on AND I think you will contribute some worthwhile comments then I will go ahead and approve you as an unmoderated commentator.

3) After the 25 spots are taken up, I then have to approve each comment from each reader. So if your comment takes a minute or so to show up it's because I'm busy, but I will eventually get to it.

Let's go blogging....

Very nice crowd! We should of put them away earlier but we can't stand prosperity! Turnovers and FMU 3 point shooting almost lost this for us. Congrats FIU and Coach Thomas!

From watching one game and looking into the stats, it's evident we are making way too many turnovers. I mean, Phil Gary had a very strong night scoring-wise but....a point guard with just 1 assist and 8 turnovers is not a recipe for success. Also, we will live and die, it seems, with the 3-point shot. So far, we've been erratic shooting...3 pointer or not. If we can find a way to reduce substantially our turnovers, and improve a little our shooting, we will be a lot more competitive than the firt 4 games of the season. If not...expect a season with less than 10 victories again....

Having said that, a win is a win is a win, and you need that in order to go forward. Hopefully, our players will keep grinding, our shooting will reach an adequate level, and our team will begin to really learn to play with each other.

I remember the FIU team that played so competitively at North Carolina did a good job of attacking them rim. I know we are undersized, but you'll enjoy the line and get the opposing team's big men in foul trouble. We need to attack the rim more.

If anyone can fix a point guard, I have confidence in Isiah being that he's a HOF PG and one of the best all-time. The team is a WIP, and will get better as they start to gel. We're still very far away from being a consistently good team, but we'll get there this season or next.

Now we are ready for the Sweet 16!! JK!!
Great first game even though we are playing against an NAIA school. The game was good, but the crowed was awesome.. Students, Alum's, Staff, etc were all there.. Once we start building some team chemestry and buliding up the program (2years) we can start inviting some big time team to our house.. Maybe even pull off a couple of Cinderelas..

Pete: What happend to the retired Jerseys that were hanging on the wall of the Arena? It looks to blank..

BTW: New court looks awesome!

The retired jerseys and the Sun Belt Conference banners from each SBC school that used to be there....
