Going to Work Already

Whirlwind of a day for new FIU defensive coordinator Geoff Collins. Got off the phone with Collins earlierColl this evening and will post a detailed interview with the new FIU defensive chief when I get a chance to go through the tape.

Collins didn't waste any time getting to work. Collins had his contract faxed to him in Orlando this afternoon, signed it, hopped into his car and headed down the Florida Turnpike to Miami to meet with FIU defensive recruits tonight for dinner.

Without going through the interview tape yet, will tell you that Collins talked about his defensive philosophy, what he saw from the 2009 FIU defense and what "Get your chili, hot!" means.

Aaapaw Will have a LIVE HOOPS BLOG of Saturday's FIU/Troy game beginning at 7:52 p.m. Tip-off for the game is at 8 p.m. as they unveil the name of the student section at the Bank.

Bring it Pete....Starving for more and more information. As gpantera says....feed us some more!

Welcome aboard Coach Collins.

My wish? 3, 4 defense. Also, blitz early and often, unless you're getting burned in the secondary...then you should stop that.

Go FIU Panthers!

Mr. Collins, welcome to FIU!! Sounds like the type of DC we need!! Good move from MC...

Coach Collins sounds fired up and that is the kind of energy we need from our coaches. I have a good feeling about this.

This is a hire i cannot B!itch about. He has experience, he has worked around a great defensive mind (Saban) and he has knowledge of FL recruits.

Im not too concerned with 3-4 or 4-3 or 3-3-5. This guy will see what he has and scheme accordingly. Although I will say one of the recruits I saw on campus yesterday was hugeeeee.

I'm just glad Galiano is gone, I'm looking forward to seeing what Collins brings to the table. Hopefully, he starts with fundamentals of tackling. Glad MC made this move. GO FIU!!!

Pete, Thanks for the updates.

alt when you say hugeeee do you mean Jose Jose HUGE?

key is that he has experience, and on various levels and has been successful everywhere he goes. That equates to success he will have at FIU. Great hire.

Well, according to reports, JUCO Defensive lineman from Pierce CC in California, 62/285 David Mahoney, and fellow DL Sean Watson, a 6-3/275 high school kid from Panama City, were supposed to visit this weekend. Of course, there might've (should've) been more recruits visiting FIU other than these two.....But, there were these two slated to visit....

GREAT hire- has reputation as a big time recruiter

FIU needs HUUGE!

What players came to visit this weekend? I hope they don't think the weather is normally like this.

FYI, Joey told me yesterday that the recruits are "big" which is a good thing...Can't wait for the 2010 season!!

COACH COLLINS WE HAVE SOME FLOR DE CANA IN SECTION 112
