Nice homecoming for FIU softball coach Beth McClendon, a Florida alum, as her FIU softball team took down No. 4 Florida earlier this afternoon 8-3. The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.
Ashley McClain (left) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and belted her team leading 9th HR. Jessy Alfonso and Jenny Welch each also had 2 hits.
Kasey Barrett (right) picked up her team-leading 15th win for the Panthers and allowed just 2 earned runs.
FIU was down 2-1 after the first inning, but scored runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings to take control of the game. The Panthers added 3 runs in the 6th inning to put it away.

Congrats FIU softball on defeating the Gators!!! Now, if only our baseball team with the so-called wonder-recruiter-coach could only beat Bethune Cookman and Florida Gulf Coast.
We're on year three of Turtle, and yes there are some nice new players on this team, however with this HIGHLY ranked recruiting class we still can't beat the teams our prior coach was criticized for playing AND beating. I'm not defending DP, I'm just saying how much longer of a honeymoon does Turtle get?
It seems that we're not winning 40+ games again, something that we fans had gotten use to before and for all the fan fare of high ranking recruits, we still struggle against teams we're suppose to beat. I truly hope we get on a run and make it to the regionals. I will come back and apologize to my faithful GPPers; however I haven't been sold on Turtle's coaching! Recruiting yes, coaching no.

The HUGE article that the Herald printed about the FIU softball team beat a VERY GOOD U.F. team was pathetic. That made my decision about canceling my subscription that much easier.. I have about 45 more days of the Herald before I cancel. In the other hand they had a 1/4 of a page article about U.M. beating Bethune.. WOW! That game was really worth 1/4 of a page. Even true U.M. fans (if there is such a thing) would not care to ready about them beating BETHUNE in baseball. Don't you think the way softball is rolling over the Sunbelt and any other team that comes their way deserves more the 3 sentences!! I think I have had enough! From now on its just Pete's Blog and if there is anything about FIU that is more then 4 sentences I will buy it the old fashion way..
Go FIU!!
