LeBatard: Isiah meets with Knicks

From Dan LeBatard's Twitter account:

No joke- inside source telling us that Isiah Thomas flew into Ocean City, NJ airport today & met w/ highest levels of Knicks management.

meeting was super secret/private airport, according to a source whose info i trust 100 percent but a source i couldn't personally trust less

We hear that Isiah will be on his 790 AM show at 6:20 p.m., presumably to discuss his future.

UPDATE: Apparently, Thomas didn't pick up his phone when The Ticket called. When we know more about what exactly is going on, you'll be the first to know.

UPDATE NO. 2: Full story in tomorrow's Miami Herald, but here's the university's take:

FIU sports information director Paul Dodson, who had been in contact with Thomas earlier Friday, said the school was "surprised" to hear LeBatard's report, but expressed confidence that Thomas would remain at the school.

"He's our coach now, he'll be our coach tomorrow, and he'll be our coach this coming fall," Dodson said.

Thomas, who is in the second of a five-year contract with the Golden Panthers, oversaw a 7-25 season last winter, but that hasn't stopped the former Piston great from amassing back-to-back impressive recruiting classes.

He's on the road this week, visiting recruits in Orlando Saturday and Los Angeles Monday, Dodson said.

Sitting in my car outside my house waiting on levatard to bring on isaih.... say it aint so

Anything new?!

A source in the sports info department told me a little while ago that nothing has come to fruition yet, and they are trying to communicate with Isiah as we speak.

And according to them, Isiah was scheduled to do recruiting in Orlando tommorow for FIU.

Isaiah isnt leaving. He's staying put. It's all just speculation.

Thomas has had one foot out the door since he got into town, and based on the fact that he tried to recruit Lebron to go to NY while now being an employee of FIU and living in Miami, should force the school to drop him. Thomas is a talented guy, but he seems to fail because he is always focused on his next opportunity. I don't blame him for leaving FIU because he should have never gone to such a school to begin with, but don't tread them like a PT summer job.

All baloney. Isiah visited the Knicks offices and practice facility on Wednesday, not today. He's not going to be hired, nor interviewed with the Knicks. He is going to Orlando tomorrow to recruit Rakeem Christmas, and then to Las Vegas from there to recruit in another summer tournament.

The New York Post has a couple of articles/notes that totally say there's no way Isiah is going to New York, at least for 1 or 2 years. Look for Allan Houston, most likely, to become the Knicks GM.

The others here, are just haters with no inside knowledge whatsoever.....just rumors and wishful thinking...

hes not going anywhere.

Yup, Isiah is staying. Those rumors by LeBatard are false. Check out my blog and FIUSM for more details.

I hope you guys are right and we shouldn't worry. We need to keep those stud recruits to stay committed. Only way they come to FIU is if Isaiah is coaching them.

This is a complete rumor with zero truth behind it. Isiah is staying at FIU. This "rumor" was started by Herald employees and fueled by Herald media and employees. If this rumor had even the slightest amount of truth to it, it would be on ESPN.COM, CNNSI.COM, Sportsline.com, or some other sports website. Not only aren't the big three giving this NON ISSUE any coverage on their front page, there is ZERO mention of this HERALD FABRICATION anywhere on their websites.

The Herald continues to beat and bash FIU. They only give it front page consideration when the story's objective, straight from the Herald's sc_UMbag brass, is to make FIU look bad. This kind of journalistic integrity only discredits the Herald, therefore diminishing readers, thereby requiring the staff to take one week furloughs.

Isiah Thompson is a loser and will turn his back on FIU soon. You guys just don't get it, FIU will never reach UM status!

"UM Status", God I hope not! When I think of legit, quality private institutions of higher learning, UM is NOWHERE in the discussion. If I'm going to pay $50K a year, I'm going to a REAL private school worth that amt like Duke, Ga. Tech, Wake Forest, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Ivy league, etc. Not mediocre UM. Status,PLEASE!

Go Panthers!!!

FIU Fan For Life, its not academics that "TheU" is fixated on, its their glory days from the 80s that he wets himself in bed at night to.

UPDATE #3: The Miami Herald, giddy with exitement of a possible negative story on FIU, publishes a rumor with no facts behind it. No other reputable news source ran a story on it. The Miami Herald continues to excrete its anti-FIU hate. What a joke.

how i miss PP

???

scUM.

The Herald Sports Editor is a cUmReCePtAcLe.

Stay classy FIU.

My sources tell me the Herald is biased.

Why hasn't IT come out and said something if these were just rumors? There might be some truth to this afterall. Hope I'm wrong. Go FIU!

Dan Lebatard is not known as an fiu basher as far as I know if it was a false rumour i don't think it was intentional.

I'm glad Isiah is staying though.

No one in NY us carrying this "rumor" at all. Here everyone us saying it's Alan Houston getting the job. No mentions of IT. There is so much media in Ny I may have missed something but not any major media outlet.

bring back shakey was best coach school ever had. would not leave you for the next big job.

Interesting response from the herald regarding Pete departing.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/07/25/1745414/part-of-the-environment-a-native.html

I know for a fact that is NOT "Raja Bell".. Shakey was a great High School Coach (South Miami) that once he got his opportunity at FIU we broke more NCAA rules then the UM football team has in the last 20 years (thats pretty bad).. I do think his coaching knowledge was outstanding but we need to keep the program clean at the same time..

I think Isiah will be staying for two maybe three more years before he moves back to the NBA.. I personally would not blame him to leave back to the NBA in 2 or 3 years. What Isiah is doing for FIU (including donating his salary of 1 year back to the school) is amazing. His recruiting is in the Top 25 in the Nation and there is no signs of stopping. I LOVE FIU, but we all know Isiah is a 4 year thing and if we get lucky we might be able to get 5 years from him.. I will take that in a heart beat.

Isiah keep up the hard work, you are doing an amazing job!

PETE WHERE ARE YOU?? THE BLOG IS ACTUALLY STARTING TO LOOK WORST THEN THE ACTUAL PAPER! POST AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU ARE DOING IN YOUR NEW LIFE!

Go FIU

Thanks for the heads-up fiu panther. I went over to Aminda's attmept at revisionist history and set the record straight.

Pete is the man, I wonder were and when he will surface again.

WE WERE PROMISED TO HAVE UPDATES ON THE SUMMER BASEBALL. WHERE ARE THEY??

There was a time when Pete would update the GPP Nation on a regular basis. Now we have someone who MAY not know where the campus is located! Adam, anything from you would be welcomed, even if its to say "all's quiet on the IT front". Beside this weak attempt of yours to post and base your stuff on 790's mistake, this either demonstrates that your too busy with your 20 other function at the herald or your just not qualified. Either way this seems like the end of the GPP, so those folks in the herald are probably thrilled about seeing us go away! We aren't going NOWHERE except dumping the rag known as the herald!!

FIU #1

Pete resigned??

Where is the blog that he posted about the Herald??

Hey Pete,

Thanks for the great work and good luck!

LonePanther, see this site for everything you've missed to this point.

http://www.fiugoldenpanthers.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1657

Thanks FIUFan. Wow, I'm not sure how I missed this.

I wish Pete well in all his endeavors, he will be surely missed.

Beasley, you're a goon.

I would not be surprised if the rumors are true and he is looking to jump ship. Of course if I was the Knicks I would not let Isiah within 100 yards of my franchise after what he did to them. I wouldn't even hire him for a ball boy or food stand position.

Isiah, be a professional for once, come out and say the rumors are not true, and fulfill your commitment here at FIU.

This is funny.

Go FIU

So just for fun I google'd "Pete Pelegrin" and there were quite a few articles written about his resignation. Some good, some bad. The worst came from the NewTimes blog. Those guys (guy?) ripped into Pete.

In any case, this whole Isiah thing is just a rumor and it had no place on the front page of yesterday's sports section. Rumors and speculation belong on Barry Jackson's gossip column, not on the front page where FACTS are to be printed. Of course, knowing Jackson, he would spin it in the worst possible way. What a joke that guy is. What was his chatter today? Oh yea, Kendall Thompkins is challenging Therion Collier for the slot spot. Ooh, wow! Thats such amazing and original chatter...

Isiah's staying for at least a year. He wants to go back to the NBA and that's ok. I just hope that he gives us at least 1 year with his recruits. I'm sure he wants this as well since it would help his resume.

I think Isiah is going to stay for more then 1 year.. I do agree with "alt7787" about trying to improve his coaching resume. I think we will see Isiah move on after the 2012 season is over. I wish he stays for longer but reality is reality.. The next FIU coach will simply need to continue the amazing recruiting that Isiah has started and make FIU into a Sunbelt Champ every year.. As for a Sweet 16 team any time soon, I don't think so and I can live with that.. One step at a time..

The Herald needs to post up at the very least some Bad/Negative news about FIU. They are amazing at that.. I just want to read something else! The canceling of my subscription means Im down to this!!

Go FIU!

Isiah rumors have been going around like crazy since he was hired, FIU loves their BB coach and cant wait for the season to begin with all his highly touted recruits, dont let this get to you FIU.

It's really a shame how quickly the entire blog has deteriorated without Pete Pelegrin at the helm. Congratulations, Herald, on essentially chasing away the only thing that kept FIU fans interested in your paper.

At the same time, for you it was probably the right move anyways. All the Herald cares about really is the money they get from UM and therefore they will pretty much never really give FIU any chance or real coverage. As was said above, we're in the Herald's back yard and it took them forever to cover Garrett Wittels' streak; in the meantime, ESPN was running wild with it every day.

Imagine that: a national sporting news organization giving us more coverage than the newspaper in our own city.

Might as well just drop FIU sports altogether; I was only somewhat inclined to buy your paper because of them, and it's not like you've really "amped up" your coverage here by chasing away our beat writer. Might as well hire me for that job, hell.

+1 this blog has collapsed, pete always wrote interesting blogs about fiu football.

Some of you kill me. Do you not get it yet??

The Herald wants nothing more than to see FIU fail and fail miserably...

These douche bags cannot be any happier than to see you guys belly-aching, you are empowering them every time you post here. NEWS FLASH - I don't think that TOOL BEASLEY or his EMPLOYERS are allowed anywhere near our teams anymore.

Go to rivals, sign up for a free account and Mark will start feeding you all some information. Over time in a few years, if it catches on - maybe a premium access will make sense. But for now, you can use that forum to post, communicate and get info on the program, recruits etc. Lord knows all the other programs use their rivals message boards before going to the local sports paper blog. It's also a good way to get a back and forth with the fan base of our future opponents. I've seen some FIU traffic on the Rutgers site recently.

OPEN YOUR EYES FIU and get over it already, the internet operates beyond the "305"

Expanded coverage ???

Thanks for the expanded FIU coverage. What a joke.

"Crickets ???"

this is blog is so sad now.

This blog is so sad now*

This blog is pretty sad, but I cant blame Beasley. Its the slow season. Not much to come up with. When the football season starts is when this blog needs to be updated at least 3 times a week.

I wish I could know how Pete was doing...

Well if someone would want to check Summer Baseball it would not be that slow......How are the kids doing? Does anybody know????

Quote from scUM Rojas: "It is incorrect to say Pete is the only person in the department who wanted to cover "and support'' FIU. Adam was extremely enthusiastic about going on the beat, and I've already received inquiries from staffers interested in taking over the blog.

Is this another boldface lie? Where's all this extreme enthusiasm; it's been nearly two weeks and all we've got is a tweet from Lebatard on a rumor he received from his NY barber on IT. This is the type of trash that should be taken off the FIU page.

Bring Pete back!

You are a 100% correct FIUBlueandGold. We can get our news from better sources besides the Herald.
