This wekeend, other than Daytona, the term "sandbagging" might get popular at the Rockwall ISD Aquatic Center, where North Texas is hosing the Sun Belt Swimming & Diving Championships. And FIU would be Team Sandbag, after sophomoore Sonia Perez Arau posted the fastest time, 4:15.08, in the 400 Individual Medley preliminaries Friday morning.
Freshman Johanna Gustafsdottir, Sun Belt champion in Thursday's 200 IM after being seeded 12th, swam the second fastest prelim time, 1:49.25, in the 200 freestyle prelims. Kayla Derr's 1:50.34 was fifth.
The finals for the two events, as well as the 1-meter diving -- Sabrina Beaupre, biggest favorite this side of Time -- will be tonight.
