Gustafsdottir doesn't qualify in the 200 IM

In the first of three events at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Finals, Johanna Gustafsdottir swam 2:00.58 in the 200 individual medley, failing to qualify for the final.

Gustafdottir swims in the 100 backstroke Friday and, her best event, the 200 back, on Saturday.

"It was a solid first swim of hte NCAA Championships for Johanna," FIU swimming coach Randy Horner said. "Althought it wasn't the best time, for this being the prelims and her first time competing on the big stage in college swimming, we'll sure take it. This is something she can build on and get better as we move ahead to the next event."
