Vegas says UCF big; Leonard, Spiegel honored; new football opponent; men's soccer gets votes

Vegas' early line on The Big Enrollment Brawl says they think it's going to be a Big Enrollment Beatdown -- and, apparently, early bettors agree (then again, the "smart money" had FIU over Duke, so...)

UCF opened as 13 1/2-point favorites and quickly moved up to 16 1/2 in some sports books and across the board offshore. Obviously, some folks see Team That Beat Akron by 42 and Hung Tough At Ohio State vs. Team That Beat Akron by 3 In Overtime and Got Blown Out In One Half at Duke.

Running back Kedrick Rhodes practiced Monday.

Sophomore Richard Leonard got the College Football Performance Award's Punt Returner of the Week for his 49-yard touchdown return against Akron. Kicker/punter (on Saturday) Jack Griffin was an honorable mention among the specialists.

In answer to who FIU will get to replace Texas A&M after the Aggies bought out the remaining game, the school should be announcing it tomorrow. Let's just say if this was before the ACC, SEC and Southwest Conference desegregated, FIU would be in big trouble.

The 5-0 men's soccer team got votes in College Soccer News Top 30 poll, which came out Sunday. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire polls come out Tuesday.

After the wins against Wisconsin (3-1) and Illinois-Chicago (2-1), freshman goalkeeper Robin Spiegel got Conference USA's nod as Defensive Player of the Week. Spiegel made six saves in the two wins and, like the team, is 5-0 this season.

Very disappointed with the Game last week. The Wifey and I are headed up to see the UCF game and we shore hope to see some drastic changes. Here is our two cents:

QB: B+ Needs to look at 2nd and 3rd read (specially if OL is blocking well). Other than that Jake was amazing.

WR: C- What happened to having a load of SPEED? They were NEVER open. Do a better job for your QB.

OL: B The big boys gave pretty good protection for the most part, but we need more running room for the RB's

DL: C Where is the pressure on the QB? You guys stopped the run very well but we need more then 1 or 2 sacks if your playing the #115 team in the nation.

DB: D+ We got lid up. If it wasn't for them dropping over 5 passes including a TD, God knows what the score could have been.

LB: C- I thought we had a Top 25 ranked Defense.. Did not look like the Killer B's of back in the days.

Special Teams: D- As good as the Punt return for a TD was, I think its been back to back games that the Special Teams almost lost the game for us. At the same time Griffin was amazing like always and kicked the winner.

Coaching: C Thank you for FINALLY putting the QB under Center. But whats up with all the Timouts during Special Teams. You should NEVER call a T.O on a "PUNT".. Just kick the darn thing. We also have to have more than ONE running play in the playbook.

I hope the 4hr trip to Orlando is well worth it.

Go Panthers!

Thanks for the info on the 2013 schedule. I hope the rumors are not true. I hope we don't schedule an FCS opponent.

At any case thanks for looking into it. And glad to hear Rhodes is OK.
If Medlock can protect the ball and run for 90+ we win a tight one. I think the D will recover and find balance, this will be the first non-pass happy team of the year. And the run is what we defend the best (or at all).
Let's get the best front four possible; Faciane, Hickman, etc....and T-Rex has to show up if Sunday's is the goal!
Cyp-get your guys in order.

I'd take FIU to cover that. It should be a decent game, I'd think.
