On FIU's first basketball Sunday it was men down, women up, Coley cool.
FIU's women dusted North Florida, 63-44 at The Branch. Junior guard Jerica Coley put up 19 points, nine rebounds, an FIU-record nine blocks, five assists, four steals and only one turnover in 40 minutes. Marita Davydova put up 14 points and Zsofia Labady had 11.
Earlier Sunday, FIU put the pressure on Boston College with a second-half run to tie the game 65-65 with more than eight minutes left. But BC kicked it home to win 84-70. Freshman Jerome Frink, playing undersized and inside, had 22 points and 10 rebounds. He was nine of nine from the free throw line and the team shot 15 of 19. Four of Malik Smith's five field goals were three-pointers.

DJN,
It was expected, but they played better than expected. We were also severly undersized. But it wasnt just the size that beat us.
We helped beat ourselves. Coach Pitino applied pressure all game which was great to see. We went small and quick after falling behind by 16 in the first half. But close the final 8 points to tie 65-65 with a bigger line up and Joey floor.
after a TO coach came back with small line up. FIU's first four possesions after thego TO were missed jump shot and three turn overs. all with BC going big and winning down low.
I think Coach failed to make a final adjustment. Our shooting was a bit erratic. I dont think M.Smith will shoot like that the rest of the way. Also for a true freshman, JF was excellent.

Chia,
Remember that Jurkovic isn't 100% yet, so we are limited in how big we can go for how long. Joey hadn't been in shape during his time under IT, and can only be on the floor for so long. We played against a bigger team with more depth, a loss against BC at this point in the Pitino era is fine by me, we will learn more in year one in conference.

Jules,
RP made many adjustments last night. And you can tell he was committed to his craft... which is Refreshing. I'm sure he'd like those last 8 mins back.
We wouldnt win but it be closer.
We were dominated on the glasd and inside even with Joey who got called on three fouls becasuse he was late on a switch and lost himself on D on another. Basically year one of IT was a waste.
But when you are getting beat down low you have to shoot better than 9/24 from 3.
Either way, I like what I saw. Beat Austin!!

Coach P was a victim of an appeared player-protest to Isiahs firing in the last 7 minutes of the game. The game went sharply down, almost to say the players remember - very sad for Coach P
