FIU men's soccer officially signed Boca Raton High midfielder Nico Midttun, who played club soccer with Weston FC, and German backliner Marvin Hezel this weekend.
Midttun committed to FIU last summer. A four-time All-State selection at Boca, he also played in his native Ecuador during summers and spent last summer there playing for a professional club team on a tryout basis.
Hezel comes out of the SC Frieburg academy and might be a replacement for graduating stellar defender Anthony Hobbs.
FOOTBALL
FIU hosted several official visits this weekend, including Belen defensive back Xavier Hines. New head coach Ron Turner's reached out to tight end commits Jonathan Pavlov from North Palm Beach Benjamin and Ocala West Port's Jonnu Smith.
Meanwhile, only special teams coordinator/secondary coach Jeff Popovich and running backs coach Apollo Wright remain from Mario Cristobal's staff. Outside linebackers coach Juan Navarro, defensive line coach Cedric Calhoun and tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Dennis Smith have been jettisoned.

I personally thought our Special Teams, and Secondary was the WORST part of the team last year. But out of all the coaches we are keeping the guy that coaches "Secondary/Special team"???
Not understanding the move. Then again I have not understood anything that is going on with FIU for the last month.. Crossing my fingures!
Go Panthers!

Just stopped by to let the Forever Inferior to the U fans know how much we appreciate PG's stupidity and for giving us back one of the best coaches and recruiters in the state of Florida and elsewhere.
This is truly the meaning of "your loss is our gain."
lol all the way to signing day 2013, 2014 and 2015!!!!
Thanks for being there for us, lol!

I read other team blogs where most of those who post actually talk about players, coaching strategy, etc., and seem to have an iota of knowledge of the game in question. Way too many of the people who have been writing in here since MC was canned truly need to get a life. Guess what? Mario Cristobal is now at UM. Good for him. The head coach at FIU is now a guy named Turner. That chapter is over, sports fans. The FBI is not going to investigate. Goonballs, take a hike.

Panther21, get a clue. How about instead of making simply stupid comments you actually get some facts or talk to people who know the recruits and realize that few are de committing and some are getting attracted to Ron Turners staff and he is already visiting high schools personally.
