Short Week Tuesday

The major football personnel update from Camp Mitch Tuesday is in the previous post: junior cornerback Richard Leonard won't play this season.

As for the injured: sophmore outside linebacker Davison Colimon had a white walking boot on his left ankle, redshirt junior Demarkus Perkins walked with a brace on his lower right leg and redshirt sophomore Shane Coleman walked with just bare legs. All wore no pads and Tang-colored jerseys.

There might be some action for junior college transfer Talir Satterfield-Rowe Friday night if Coleman doesn't play. FIU coach Ron Turner said Coleman has the best shot of playing Friday against Central Florida with Perkins and Colimon doubtful.

Looking around, I didn't see redshirt junior right guard Jordan White, so I doubt he'll be bumping pads Friday, either. But defensive end Giovani Francois and defensive tackle Marcus Cheeks both were back and wearing normal jerseys.

Sophomore safety Adrian Jenkins is back with the team after being kept out of training camp. Remember, when camp started, Jenkins, running back Jakhari Gore and wide receiver Willis Wright were to be out until fall semester classes started. While I heard of Gore and Wright's academic problems, I don't recall hearing anything about Jenkins, so I'm not ready to say definitively that was his issue.

Turner thought the team had a good practice Tuesday and he seemed in a good mood. He said in looking at UCF on tape, he thought they're the kind of team he wants FIU to be: disciplined, fast, physical, makes you work for everything.

When AP reporter Steve Wine asked if there was "a little" deer-in-headlights action happening with FIU Saturday against Maryland, Turner said no. Wine appeared surprised until Turner said, "There was a LOT of deer-in-the-headlights. You said 'a little.'" He also said on the first offensive play of the game, FIU had three mental errors on a play put in on the first day of training camp.

Turner lauded the defensive line not just for their play on the field Saturday, but staying positive and encouraging throughout the game.
