Next Spence headed to FIU?

According to a Tweet from former Northwestern coach Stephen Field, now the coach at Citra North Marion High, Northwestern defensive back Shermarke Spence has committed to FIU. Spence wasn't rated by 247sports, ESPN.com (but that site lists him erroneously at only 5-6and at two stars by Rivals.com, which has done the opposite of some recruiting sites and boosted a recruit's rating after he commits to FIU.

He's the younger brother of former University of Miami player Sean Spence.

Hopefully he hits the books just as well as he hits opposing players. Remember, this coaching staff is not going to make sure you go to class or wake up for class.

If you need to be babied to the classroom, you're going to need to be babied in the film room and at practice.

Changing the culture..

We can only hope the culture is changing. I for one would be perfectly happy to hear a commentator say one day, "You know, Dan, FIU is only at .500, but these guys have the highest GPA in Conference USA, and not one of them has been charged with a felony." What a concept, eh?

The announcers will also state, "wow Jim did you know that the % of FIU ATHLETIC's funding is above 65% from students? Really Bob! Yes, that's why the AD doesn't have to raise much money or silly things like a radio package, coaches show or any outreach / marketing at all! Then the con artist reports to President that FIU is in black!"

Clock still ticking Mr. President.
