Friday's News

Biggest news today was the absence of defenseman Karlis Skrastins, whom Peter DeBoer says has some kind of neck/back injury. Pete didn't know how serious it was, may have more tomorrow. Apparently, Karlis was going to see a specialist today. Don't want to speculate on anything, so we'll just have to wait and see.

David Booth worked out before the practice session and could be back in the lineup Monday, although with the young guys looking good, they may get more of a look.

Stephen Weiss hopes to be back practicing tomorrow, says his groin injury feels better and stronger. He says he wants to play Monday, but knows the most important thing is being 100 percent -- or at least as close to that as possible -- for Friday's opener in Raleigh.

"Oh yeah, I'm not missing that,'' Weiss said. "I'm playing.''
