Fun in the District: Fine for Tortorella? ... Huge Game in Philly ...

Torts3 Here's Rangers coach John Tortorella in happier times, coaching the Lighting, doing the Miami 'U' gesture with his hands.

Last night, old Torts wasn't real happy.

Not only did his team play like dreck in a 4-0 pasting to the host Capitals, but the Rangers' coach got into a bit of an altercation with a fan. Tortorella apparently got doused with beer or water from the stands and decided to fight back with a water bottle and a stick. Fun, fun stuff.

I don't expect Torts to be suspended for this, but his check will be a little lighter this week after the commissioner gets through with some deductions.

-- I love Tortorella's fire and passion, but I am real glad I don't have to cover him on a daily basis. The guy benches Sean Avery for Game 5 and refuses to discuss why. Then, he gets into it with a fan and won't talk about it. This guy never talks about anything ''but the game.'' But then you ask him stuff about the game, and he won't talk about it.

Tough guy to deal with, but the NY writers knew that going in.

Kind of like dealing with Pete DeBoer. Geez, what a pain that is.

Just kidding.

-- Anyone else excited about a Game 6 in this series at MSG? I know I can't wait to watch this one play out.

-- Big game in Philadelphia today; can the Flyers stay alive and force a Game 7? Of course they can. Just depends on if they get another big game out of Martin Biron -- who shut out the Pens @ the Igloo the other night.

-- Don't forget to follow along at Twitter this Panthers offseason/NHL Stanley Cup playoff time. Feel free to jump into the fun and frivolity that Twitter has to offer. Actually, I'm still trying to figure out what it's all about.

gm, WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN tORTELLA'S RESPONSES AND WHAT YOU GET DOWN HERE? jm NEVER TELLS YOU ANYTHING, AND EITHER DOES PD. WE NEVER LEARNED ABOUT THE GOLTENDER BRAWL IN LONG ISLAND WITH AULD. YOU GUYS LEARNED NOTHING FROM PD AND JM ABOUT THE BOYNTON FIASCO.

SO TORTELLA'S MORE BLUNT (AND MORE PASSIONATE). ITS A DISTINCTION WITHOUT A DIFFERENCE.

relax there beavis...and quit screaming...I agree with you on JM; we have rarely gotten anything out of him. But PDeB is quite a bit different. And him being quiet about a personal fight between him and a player (Boynton) and Torts being combative about just about everything is a big difference. Getting stuff out of Torts is like pulling teeth. Trust me on this, night and day.

so, whatever did happen with the panthers goaltender brawl????? And what's the full story about the Boynton blow-up???? Did the team side with Boynton or DB? Does anyone in the organization think the Boynton affair had anything to do with that horrible 10-game slide that began after the Boynton suspension? It's things like that I want my reporters to investigate and report about! The soft fluff I can find on the teams' website!

Thanks for coming here Howard. Hate losing you as a reader.

Way to call him out Howard...Insiders want to know, so GR's got some work to do...Even though we'll probably never get the real truth, there has to be some more to it...

Yes I know many fans would like to use this as the excuse, that certainly wasn't what kept them out...Every team has issues throughout the year, and yes this may have been untimely, but that's how it works sometimes....I'd say JM got involved, thus the reason for the silent treatment....I suppose Eminger was the security transaction in case the team made it, and things didn't get any better...

But the real reason for the destruction was that we don't have enough talent....Maybe the season was a month too long...Either way, PDB squeezed everything out of this MEDIOCRITY of a hockey team we have....We got close as hell, but in the end, NOT ENOUGH!!! I see more of the same for the next 3 years...Maybe flirt with the 8th seed, but reality sets in and with this roster, they're closer to the bottom than the top....Sad to say, but even in their division, Tampa catches them this year and Cats battle for 4th in their DIVISION!!!

What is it you want me to report? I've written everything I know and have heard about the Boynton deal. He's gone. And the DeBoer blowup is a big reason. I don't think he wants to be back because of that either. But no one would ever go on the record on something like this in hockey. It's an unwritten rule. Guys who I talked to off the record dismissed it as a fight between two guys -- DeBoer and Boynton. Simple as that. most didn't give it much more thought and minded their own business. I've written that too. As far as the goalie thing goes, I've beaten that thing to death. how long ago was that? Everything else Howard brings up (did the Boynton blowup lead to losses?) would be nothing more than heresay. Do I think it had something to do with it? Not really. They didn't play a good game in NY despite winning. And that was with Boynton on the team. Then without him, they got blown out in NJ then won in Washington. So which one do you give the Boynton blowup credit for? Go ahead, take a guess. That's all it is.

GR. I just want you to know that your doing a great job.
