Welcome to Hockeytown: Florida Panthers @ Detroit Red Wings

Joelouis DETROIT -- Greetings and salutations from Joe Louis Arena, the longtime home of the Detroit Red Wings.

Was just informed that this building was built in 1979. Really? I would have said 1969. Maybe 1959. This place is great, but it has not aged well.

But there are fewer places in the league better to watch a game.

Bill Lindsay says the Islanders arena may have better viewing. But they sure don't make them like this anymore.

The Miami Arena was nicer than this and it has been torn down already.

But I love historic places so I love this place. Welcome to Hockeytown, eh.

-- Just ran into a bunch of folks from Kitchener, Ont., here to root on Pete and the Panthers. One parent (about 20 Jr. Kitchener Rangers made the three-hour trek) said they hoped to meet with Pete after the game but it looks like that may not happen. The Panthers are flying straight to New York after this.

But I'm thinking Pete can talk to them another time.

One rumor floating around is that Florida will hold the start of training camp in Kitchener next year at the Auditorium. Which would be OK with me.

Don't forget, Panthers play Boston on Sept. 23, 2010, at Rochester. Gets your Amerks, err, Panthers tickets soon!

-- Ville Koistinen your healthy scratch tonight.

-- Scott Clemmensen in net for the Cats, Chris Osgood going for the Wings. Osgood has been out with the flu. The Wings are also flying out of here tonight as they have a date on Hockey Night tomorrow with the Montreal Martins.

Gmandetroit -- From my Facebook page:

here's why I love Detroit: I always root for the underdog, they have Tim Hortons and there are streets named Clark and Griswold. And it's Hockeytown
