Stephen Weiss Out; Shawn Matthias. Jeff Taffe Up

Weiss4 First off, happy Dr. Martin Luther King Day to everyone out there. We have a holiday game tonight with the Thrashers in from Atlanta.

The big news today is that Stephen Weiss missed the skate and will not play tonight. Coach Pete DeBoer says they didn't want to suit Weiss up and then decide he couldn't go as they did Saturday when Weiss was shut down after only a few shifts.

It looks like Dominic Moore is coming up to play on the first line (SunPass Express?) with the second line (Cory Stillman-Steven Reinprect-Rostislav Olesz) sticking together.

Shawn Matthias and Jeff Taffe have been called up from Rochester. Steve MacIntyre was sent back.

Pete said that Dmitry Kulikov and Kenndal McArdle are close to coming back. They are expected to be on the Jersey trip and could play this week.

And Jiggs is here...

Whats the status with Booth? Any time frame as to when he might return?

What's wrong with Weiss? The Cats can't afford to be without him. Hope he heals quickly.

Does Pete DeBoer have any say in who this team signs, sends up or down? I know MacIntyre was taken off waivers, so we didn't give anything up to get him (I think?) but DeBoer seems to develop some sort of personal grudge against these guys and they don't play, just take up a spot. Belak and Boynton were on the team when DeBoer got here, but Koistinen and Mac were signed on his watch, and it feels like he never had any intention of giving them a chance from day 1. Repik and Taffe have shown a helluva lot more to me than Matthias has, but Matthias is getting a lot more ice time. Garrison has looked lost, but Ellerby just recently got a look. Just seems oddly personal on DeBoer's part, playing guys he knew from juniors and wat-not... I dunno...

My guess is that Koistinen was signed for the trip to Finland.

DeBoer has to rely on the panthers front office the same front office that has led to the downfall of this team.

I agree that some of the players playing have no business being on the ice and that there appears to be a double standard based on who he knows from juniors as compared to who he doesn't know.

That is one of the factors in Keenan/Martin trading Luongo as they loved Todd Bertuzzi and wanted him badly enough to trade Luongo.
