Randy Sexton Off to Penguins

SextondraftSorry I'm a little late on this, but I'm covering the Daytona race and watching all this rain has made me a bit slow.

Anywho, congrats to Randy Sexton who will join the Penguins organization as their assistant director of amateur scouting.

According to a release from the Pens, Sexton will "work closely with director of amateur scouting Jay Heinbuck and his staff in overseeing amateur scouting in North America and Europe.''

Sexton had been with the Panthers since JM the then GM hired him to be the team's assistant GM in 2007.

When JM left to be the coach of the Canadiens, Sexton took over the job and was given the full time (well, that's a relative term) gig right before the Panthers season opener in Helsinki on Oct. 2.

Sexton was told in April that the Panthers were looking around for a GM and in May told him that they found one in Dale Tallon. Sexton stuck around and helped the transition and was part of the Panthers draft party just last weekend in Los Angeles. But his contract expired on June 30, and Tallon hired Mike Santos to be his assistant to the regional manager.

Now I'm going back to watch guys turn left.

More racing EXTRA! coming up later for all you gearheads.
