#FlaPanthers Wednesday Notebook: Bergenheim Suspended ... Kulikov Talks Back On ... Hello Colby Robak

TWITTER: @GeorgeRichards

As expected, the Panthers suspended forward Sean Bergenheim as he hasn't been medically cleared to play after being injured during the lockout.

NHL teams are allowed to suspend players - without pay -- who were hurt and unable to play while doing so for another team or country during the lockout.

Defenseman Erik Gudbranson -- who hurt his shoulder snowboarding -- and center Marcel Goc (ankle) have also been suspended.

Once they are cleared to play, they will be reinstated to the team. Gudbranson is working out with the Panthers and Goc is rehabbing with the team.

Its believed Bergenheim injured his groin in just his second game playing for a professional team in his hometown of Helsinki, Finland, in October. Assistant general manager Mike Santos said he didn't know the severity of the injury although he wasn't told that Bergenheim requires surgery.

-- The Panthers recalled defenseman Colby Robak from AHL San Antonio late Tuesday to replace veteran Ed Jovanovski. Jovanovski missed work for the second straight day after Santos said he was nicked up in Monday's initial workout.

Robak played in three games with the Panthers last year and has 18 points in 40 games for the Rampage this season.

-- Santos said he spoke to the agent for unsigned restricted free agent Dmitry Kulikov on two occasions yet didn't have any progress to report. The Panthers own Kulikov's NHL rights and he is no longer on the roster of his hometown team in Russia.

-- Fox Sports Florida announced Tuesday that it would broadcast all 48 games this season between FSN and Sun Sports. FSN will carry 42 games with Sun getting six in April during conflicts with the Marlins.

"The new contract between Fox and the Panthers is great for the fans,'' play-by-play voice Steve Goldstein said. "There's going to be more hockey than we've ever seen in South Florida. The commitment going into the broadcasts is great.''

How are there more games being televised just because Fox and Sun are showing all 48 in this shortened season when they usually televise 75 or so. If we are talking in relative terms I get it but less games played = less hockey to watch. Leave it to Goldstein ...

As far as Jovo goes, I commented in yesterdays post that Jovo had to be dinged up despite Dineen saying he was resting him (which was just ridiculous if anyone believed it). Florida is already in some early trouble defensively. No Jovanovski, Gudbranson or Kulikov. Begenheim out wit a groin since october, that makes it a pretty severe injury. He's probably not worth counting on for most of this shortened season. Goc hurt as usual and he can contribute some ... 11G 16A in 57 last season. Bergenheim put up 17G in 62 games last season. Considering Florida is still going to be a scoring by committe team barring a big rookie season from Huberdeau and Mueller and/or Svatos and/or Kovalev contributing signifigantly (assuming they even make the team/stay healthy) it hurts to lose and of these guys that can get you double digit goals.

thanks for staying positive. you should follow a canadian team, they love criticism.

pfan ... I am positive. Hockey fan from as far back as I can remember, Panther fan from day one. Huge supporter of Dale Tallon. On record saying he was the hire that would turn it around and he's on schedule to do just that. My post here is accurate and realistic, not negative. When I post "they suck" then by all means reply and call me negative and it would be a fair assessment. Right now, it isnt.

How does Tallon have this team on the right path? They start the season without Kulikov, Gudbranson, Goc, Bergy, Jovo. His draft picks haven't done enough yet to even say he's done a great job. Just by watching a lot of games Howden has been apart of, he's no 1st rounder. Howden might be the worst draft pick he has other than Skille back in Chi Town.

Shore on the other hand might be the best prospect starting with the team. The only problem is Tallon didn't draft him.

Gudy and Huberdeau seem to be great talents, let's just see it in the NHL. SNOWBOARDING? I guess the coaches and upper management don't have a hold on these players after all. Good job Gudy!! You come in and say you want to be a leader and win but you go and pull this crap?? unacceptable.

Tallon is far from the savior, we still have a limited supply in RW ers. We'll see, I truly am the most negative poster since Bure was traded. That's what happens when you love hockey and put your heart into this team as a fan. Then they go around and shove it right up our @@@$$@#.

Go Panthers!

GOAL IS 50 POINTS AND YOU MAKE PLAYOFFS. Can we do it 2 years in a row or will we once again start another playoffless streak?

oh, and I left out Garrison. He should have given all the money to him and told Kulikov to take a walk. Garrison was the only reason we were a threat on the PP, that will change this season. 20th or lower in PP is a lock this year without Garrison. Then Tallon tries to sell the fact that he's replaced by KUBA? oh God, lie somewhere else Dale. Oh wait, only South Florida fans are stupid enough to take that as good news.

Give me a break, Kuba is a bum, he's on the downside and his contract is way to much. No wonder Kuli wants more money.
