HAT'S OFF TO GILBERT: Panthers D Gets New Prize for his Three Assists

DENVER -- The Panthers apparently picked up a new goofy trinket on the road to reward their player of the night.

Tom Gilbert, who tied a career-high with three assists, received the red Randy 'Macho Man' Savage cowboy hat following Florida's 4-1 win over the host Avalanche.

"It's new and now I think we're going to start winning a lot of games,'' said Jonathan Huberdeau, who scored Florida's final goal this night. "We just needed to get this one.''

Where the hat was purchased -- and who found it -- is being held as a secret for now. But Gilbert seemed happy rocking it even if it did leave some red glitter on his face.

"We did the right things,'' Gilbert said. "We got pucks deep, chased pucks down. Hats off to our forwards, they were great down low."

When told Florida's PR director had taken the hat to be packed away, Gilbert grinned and admitted it was nice to be the first to wear it.

"Hopefully a lot of guys get to wear it throughout the year,'' Gilbert said. "These things are good. It was great to put in the effort and get the outcome. This is a long season. We can build off this.''

The Panthers have previously given their game 'heroes' such things as wrestling belts, fire helmets and, last year, a red velvet Cavalier hat complete with a feather.
