BOSTON -- Things just got real for the Florida Panthers

Roberto Luongo is coming home.

Luongo has confirmed that the Canucks have traded him back to the Panthers. Luongo, who continues to reside a few miles north of Florida's training facility in Coral Springs, had been working on coming back to the team for some time.

Under Mike Keenan, the Panthers traded Luongo to the Canucks in a lopsided deal on the eve of the 2006 NHL Draft being held in Vancouver. Florida got Bryan Allen, Todd Bertuzzi and Alex Auld in that deal.

The Panthers reportedly are sending Jacob Markstrom -- long considered their goalie of the future -- to Vancouver.

Luongo and Tim Thomas, who famously battled it out in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, are now teammates. Scott Clemmensen, put on waivers on Tuesday, may be headed to San Antonio.

More as we move along....

Nice. Hopefully he can put up 20+ for the next couple seasons and he's great in S.O.'s.

Oops, posted re: Boyes above.

Not real thrilled with Tallon bringing Luongo back due to his contract relative to age. He's 34 and due 6.7 million for the next 4 seasons, 3.4 million 2018-19. After that it falls but the cap hit remains at 5.3 million through 2021-2022. It took forever for Vancouver to move him and it will only get worse for Florida should they need to move him. Other than that, he is a good goaltender that will obviously face less scrutiny back in Sunrise. But again, he's 34 already. I still believe that Markstrom has the potential and if he fulfills it, this will really look like an instant gratification move. Florida has always found good goaltenders, I dont think they needed to go this route but what is done is done. As far as Luongo's playoff woes, I guess the Panthers will worry about his postseason play when we get there.

That said, it wouldn't suck to have Luongo AND Thomas for next season. Thomas has struggled some lately but he has another season or two, in the least as a good backup. He would also push Luongo.

Crazy times in Pantherland! Glad Boyes was signed to a really good deal & I am just stunned that Roberto is back. Wow.

Now the team really needs to address the need for scoring, otherwise it's gonna be the same thing as when Luongo was here before. The kids need some help putting pucks in the net!
