This story is developing so I will be updating this page over the course of the evening, but early reports out of Tallahassee are correct and Brandon Jenkins' MRI has revealed damage to his left foot that will keep him out for the season.
Bruce Feldman first reported the story and Ira Schoffel of the Tallahassee Democrat was later able to confirm it.
Update: FSU has just confirmed the injury in a statement:
“After receiving information late in the afternoon following an MRI and a weight bearing X-Ray and also awaiting to talk to Brandon Jenkins and his mother, it was determined that Brandon will miss the 2012 season with a Lisfranc injury,” Fisher said.
“Brandon is not only a tremendous player, but a great person, teammate and leader that we will miss. I know he’ll bounce back and recover to continue a great career.”
Here's what we know now, Jenkins and his 22.5 career sacks (he had one Saturday) will not be able to contribute this season.
Fortunately, FSU is loaded up front, but the loss will still hurt.
Bjoern Werner is elite, he'll be a top draft pick in April and a lot of people around this program already felt like Werner was going to be the star this season. Tank Carradine is the real beneficiary though. Carradine replaced Jenkins on Saturday and went on to lead the Seminoles in tackles for the game.
Sure it's not as flashy as Werner's night, but it was definitely something that should give the Seminole faithful a little bit of comfort given Jenkins' unfortunate diagnosis.
Giorgio Newberry has also come on over the summer and Toshmon Stevens has been a special teams stand-out and has made the most of limited reps.
The real question becomes how this affects Mario Edwards Jr. With Jenkins healthy, Edwards Jr. would not have played. Without Jenkins it's possible that Edwards could move into the rotation and begin to see some playing time as a true freshman.
Of course, he could still sit if the team feels strongly enough about Giorgio Newberry.
As I said, this story is developing, so keep checking back and I'll keep tweeting as I update it.

Gosh this is terrible for Jenkins and FSU. Was feeling like this defense could be as good as the Peter Boulware, Reinard Wilson days. What does Jenkins do ? If he goes pro after the season, his draft stock will have fallen albeit he probably would still go high. If he red-shirts and plays another year, then he risks another injury and has to wait longer to go pro. Can he come back for the last few games.? Sometimes young guys recover very fast.
