Florida State's mercurial redshirt freshman quarterback was named the Walter Camp Player of the Week this morning for his performance in Florida State's 63-0 blowout of Maryland.
Jameis Winston was 23-32 for 393 yards and five passing touchdowns yesterday. It was a career day for Winston in terms of yardage and touchdown passes and it was capped by a highlight-reel worthy scrambling touchdown pass to Nick O'Leary that saw the young signal-caller emerge from a seemingly certain sack to roll right and connect with his junior tight end in the back of the endzone.
So far this season Winston is 90/123 for 1441 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions. He's also added 195 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.
Winston is the third Seminole to be named the Walter Camp Player of the Week - the first on offense. A.J. Nicholson was honored in 2005 and Everette Brown in 2008.
