Listed below are links to weblogs that reference How to handle buying hurricane supplies:
Good ideas on getting ready. We have a huge plastic storage bin that has some essentials: coffee pot (not electric), telephone (old one, not cordless), batteries, paper plates, cups, utensils, tarps, file with legal papers, solar lights, baby wipes (especially handy if water goes out and you don't want to smell like an old goat!), copies of eyeglass and medical prescriptions and bottles of sanitizer with a small first aid kit. That makes it easy to toss in a vehicle and drive. I know I'll have a hard enough time herding 2 cats.

Good idea, Nat. I guess this could be applied to anything, right. I mean, it's always been a goal of mine to start buying my xmas gifts early, one or two a month so I don't drop like $1500 all at once in December. Never works that way.
Running of the bulls though?

I agree, dropping it all at once is rough. Especially if a storm comes out of nowhere. I start to stock up right when hurricane season starts. That way, I'm kind of ready..btw, I loved the running of the bulls, I burst out laughing, I didn't expect it, great video!

Lou-Ok, you are a veteran for real!
$-I can tell you don't live where there are hurricanes. Those bulls are mild compared to the scenes at Home Depot.
Gina-Thanks, Gina! Up with preparation!

LOL I loved the running of the bulls. Along with $ out of .15 this can be applied to so many other things. In fact I need to get my emergency survival kit together. A case of water, food etc, things just in case of some freak emergency in NYC. Hey ya never know.
Thanks for the great reminder.

Watch out for rip-offs! Back during Hurricane Wilma I bought an electric generator in case the power went out. But when I plugged it in the socket, it didn't work!

That running of the bulls cracked me up. Nobody is that crazy, it's just mad crowded and not everyone smells good.
I have a 12-pk of water and rechargeable AA batteries. I have eight total, so I try to make sure I have at least four charged.
My clock radio also takes 9-volt batteries, so I have two of those.
Food wise I need to get on that, cause I eat like crazy.

Natalie, you are a riot! Bravo for reminding us all that we need to prepare early! Start now, and don't wait. I've got a giant rubbermaid container that I've been filling with batteries, candles (last resort), protein bars, flashlight, extra meds for my rabbits, and plenty of snacks for the kids. I've also got a dvd player with 2 batteries that I can charge up to keep them quiet for a while when the power goes out. Thanks for all your advice, Natalie, keep it coming!
