I love cheap, I mean, affordable wine
Since my college days of buying Wild Irish Rose for my friends on their 21st birthdays, I've had an affinity for affordable wine. In my opinion, as long as it's wine, you always seem a touch classier than say, gripping a 40 ounce of Olde English. I've since graduated to finer alcohol (I love Patron), but I still like to keep my wine under $10. My favorite is a Schmitt Sohne Riesling. I can get it for about $8.99 at the corner store. Works for me.
While at my journalism conference, I did some blog networking. I met the blogger from The Crushed Grape Report. I learned that she was a Frugalista, and that she wrote an awesome post on affordable wines to drink . Yay! See, that's why I had such a great week at my journalism conference. Where else can you learn about perfecting your craft and finding affordable spirits? :)
For my spirited people, where do you buy your wine? What's your favorite frugal wine? Are you a wine snob or a beer connoisseur? What's the cheapest wine you bought? Are you still hungover from it?

You can't go wrong with Barefoot Moscato. You know I like my whites, this one is so sweet and refreshing, perfect for summertime. $14 a bottle. Also, Ca Montini Pinot Grigio (I was only able to find this in your area on Washington Ave on Sobe) is a great great wine. Better than alot of the more expensive brands. It's also $14 a bottle.

Wild Irish Rose? Seriously?

Terita- Ok, $14 is pretty affordable...can we get some wine under $10, though? We are talking fine and frugal here!
$ out of .$15- I see we are a wine snob! :)

I wouldn't call myself a wine snob, but it really needs to be decent. I like red and I get bored quickly. I've had $5-10 wine from Trader Joe's as good as some $15-20 bottles elsewhere. You can experiment with decent stuff without breaking the bank. It's fine for me, but I'd probably head in a different direction for a special occasion or if it's a gift.
I drank some extremely cheap and questionable stuff in my youth. A good rule is to stay clear of any wine that comes in a flask or beer typically sold in a 40.

Personally, I love the cheap/not expensive French wines I can get at a local wine store. I'm not a big fan of many Cali wines, but if you look, you CAN find stuff that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that tastes great.

Yellow Tail. Any of their wines are under $10 and are great.

Hi Frugalista:
I have several.
When it comes to Riesling, I'm a Blue Nun type of girl. It's light and sweet, and best of all it just costs about $7. Yummylicious!
Beringer has upped their ante and now have classier wines. Their Cabernet Savignon is quite good; it's about $12.
But my all type favorite cheap, er, inexpensive wine is Yellow Tail. The bottles are pretty and usually under $10. Their Cabernet Savignon and Cabernet/Merlot Mix is heavenly after a long day of deadlines. I think I'll buy a bottle tonight!

I save money on wine by taking the bottle of Nighttrain from the corner wino after he passes out.

I like Riesling Relax.(I can get it at the grocery store close to my house) It's only like $9 a bottle in this cutesy blue bottle and one glass can lull me right into a peaceful evening and bedtime.

I don't drink wine but I am LOL at "you always seem a touch classier than say, gripping a 40 ounce of Olde English." I will pass this information on to my wine loving pals.
Thanks

Cheapest stuff I ever drank was MD 20-20 Pineapple. Never again. My favorite wine tastings were done by a shop in Virginia Beach that did a monthly "under $10" wines. I got to discover a lot of wines before they hit it big and cost too much. My latest cheap, fun wine: Herding Cats from South Africa at 4.99. Chill it and drink it on the porch on a hot afternoon. Just not enough supply. You must have inbibed that Olde English at the same age I did the MD. LOL!!!

MD 20/20...I preferred the kiwi-lime and banana-red varietals.

Our house wine is delicious. We like red wine, and our favorite is smooth with hints of red cherry, touch of cinnamon, essence of earthtones, absolutely delightful Cabernet/merlot. It's Frontera, Concha y Toro. I'm not going to tell you the cost, because you absolutely will not believe it.
Also for summertime, our favorite is a crisp, lineny, light Pinot Grigio, Citra. For a few dollare more you may want to try the Folinari. Two delicious crispy lovely white wines. If you try them, I'd love to hear back from you.

Boxed wine is the best for making Sangria :)

I'm partial to pinot grigios, especially in the summer. I get the big bottle of Cavit at Crown Liquor or Costco. Costs around $10.60 at both places. Keep it cold and enjoy the summer!
