The cash-strapped strip, clean homes to earn $$

Trucker My friend Errin sent me an article about cash-strapped people who are cleaning homes, exotic dancing and working retail to make ends meet. In this down economy, people are prepared to make a dollar any way they can.  I'm concerned that a woman has to resort to stripping. Then again, the exotic dancer in the article drives an Infinity truck that costs $100 to fill up the gas tank. I would say she could sell the truck, but who is trying to buy a luxury gas guzzler in this market? Far too often, we work to pay off things, not to save. Meh! There may be a career in exotic dancing. Ask this woman.

In the article, cleaning companies say they are getting more calls from people looking for work. It's not just  people who got laid off and need income. Many people already have jobs, but have had pay cuts or inflation (GAS) has gobbled up their discretionary funds.
I hope things get better.

Would you work a side hustle? Is there any job you wouldn't do? What do you think about the woman working as an exotic dancer to pay the bills?

Times are tough. You got to do what you got to I guess.

I am just wondering these people who strip, are the qualified.

I don't think there is anything wrong with stripping! I mean there are other things out there that someone can do to make cash....she just chose something pretty lucrative! No matter how bad the economy, men will still show up!

As for what I would/wouldn't do for extra money. I guess there isn't much...if I was that desperate I'd do just about anything that was legal! Fortunately, we are not at that point though.

I know that some girls (most of the time students), are going into occasional prostitution to pay their bills. They say that money is better than if they were working in a Starbucks... which is true, but where is the self-esteem in all that?

Cleaning houses, walking dogs, cleaning in a hospital, I would do. But I would not strip for sure.

I definitely wouldn't strip but to each his own. I'm in ATL and I have definitely seen the anecdotal evidence that more people are picking up second jobs, etc. to make ends meet.

I've thought about picking up a part time job - my concerns are health related. I'm not sure I could hold up a cleaning job on weekends.

That being said, more power to people who do that! They are taking control of their situation, as opposed to letting their debts run them down.

I am never opposed to a side hustle but I know for a certainty that stripping would not be my hustle at all. I always think there is something else that a person can do instead of disrobing for bucks. Just my 2 cents.

I'd probably try retail or office cleaning. But I don't think I'd strip........

Times are hard and I definitely understand that people need to makes ends meet and do that how they see fit. It's about one's own personal discretion.

Times are hard and they are going to get alot worse before they get better. I have had to pick up a part-time retail job to off-set the higher price of everything. I'm trying really hard not to dig into my emergency fund.

I guess I have been blessed to have a job that pays more than my lifestyle.

For as side hustling, I use my brains, contact work or blogging to make extra money

I work two second jobs. One is teaching piano & the other as a server in a local restaurant. I don't like the time they take away from my kids but they also enable me to provide extra's for the kids that I wouldn't be able to otherwise.

I don't think that any job where you have to take off your clothes is acceptable! It's not something I would do because I feel like your body is the only thing that you have that you don't have to pay for. I'm not selling it! You can't have it!

As for a side hustle I'd do just about anything (clerical work, sweeping lol, washing dishes) I'm down for all of that. I'm thankful that I am able to do my full time job as a side hustle for extra cash so I'm covered.

I bartend sometimes and it's the only reason I didn't have to pack my bags and move home after my 2001 layoff.

I wouldn't strip, but I guess I can't judge - I wouldn't show up for a bartending gig without exposing cleavage either.

I initially thought I felt sorry for the lady but she doesn't feel sorry for herself.
She made a VERY tough decision. And with two kids, can you blame here. She can't work in a book store on the side.

I've been monetizing my blog, selling more stuff on Craigslist and also doing more web designing to make some $$.

But I'd never strip. I also don't own a gas guzzler. I was recession-proofing my life before one threatened to come.
