GAINESVILLE -- Florida confirmed today what many thought to be true for several weeks: redshirt freshman Chevon Walker is gone. Walker asked for permission to seek a transfer this morning and Florida obliged.
Walker played in five games this season and rushed for 14 yards on four carries. He hasn't dressed with the team since the Gators' win at Kentucky on Oct. 20 and he hasn't practiced with the team for several weeks. Florida coach Urban Meyer has been vague when asked why Walker has been absent. Meyer recently said that Walker was dealing with "personal issues."
Florida redshirt junior Markus Manson moved from defensive back to running back on Monday. Manson told The Miami Herald on Monday night that he expects to carry the ball on Saturday against Florida Atlantic. Every running back on Florida's roster not named Tim Tebow or Chevon Walker has had trouble holding onto the ball this season. Perhaps Manson can provide some reliability in the backfield.
