GAINESVILLE -- Florida fullback Eric Rutledge will not play with the Gators during their Jan.1 Capital One Bowl, according to Florida sports information director Steve McClain in the Tampa Tribune. A senior, Rutledge was recently suspended for violating team rules.
Rutledge did not log a single rush or reception this season but was considered an excellent blocker for the Gators' spread-option offense. Rutledge is the second Florida football player in recent weeks to find himself in trouble.
Defensive end Jermaine Cunningham was arrested for an incident that occurred in a Gainesville sandwich shop two weeks ago. Cunningham was charged with a misdemeanor for tossing empty soda cups at a deli clerk.
