Tebow a no show in initial NFL Draft projection

GAINESVILLE -- Shortly after his sophomore season, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow told Gator Clause that he would play four seasons for the Gators. He changed his stance slightly this season and now says he will wait until his junior season is complete before he makes a decision on whether or not to turn pro.

On Thursday, Tebow might be leaning towards returning to school for his senior season. Scouts Inc. released its first-round NFL Draft projections today (CLICK ME!) and Tebow isn't on the list. Junior quarterbacks on the list: Oklahoma's Sam Bradford, No.1 pick; Georgia's Matt Stafford, the No.5 pick; USC's Mark Sanchez (redshirt junior), the No.12 pick.

While Tebow isn't listed in the early NFL Draft projections, other Florida juniors are among Scouts Inc.'s Top 32. Percy Harvin is No.22, the third-ranked wide receiver. Brandon Spikes is No. 26, the fourth-rated linebacker.

Other instate notables: South Florida junior defensive end George Selvie is No.24. Florida State defensive end Everette Brown is No.21. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas alum Geno Atkins is No. 16 and the fifth-rated defensive linemen. (Note: ESPN lists Atkins as playing for Texas but Atkins actually plays for Georgia.) Clemson running back C.J. Spiller, a Lake Butler, Fla., native, is No.32.

It should be noted that Scouts Inc. does not project any Miami Hurricanes in the first round. At least one Miami Hurricane has been drafted in the NFL first round each of the past 13 seasons. That streak is in jeapardy this season.

URBAN MEYER/PERCY HARVIN HATE SPEECH
This from The Miami Herald's own Dolphins columnist Armando Salguero. Mr. Salguero analyzed some Dolphins NFL Draft projections today and he apparently couldn't help himself by adding this zinger to his biting prose:

"Also: I know Florida faithful will shout from the rooftops that Percy Harvin deserves mention here as a top receiver prospect. But the guy has had some injury issues this year, is not a big guy per se at 5-11 and 195 pounds, and I just don't like Urban Meyer. So there."

Say it ain't so, Armando! Say it ain't so!

For what it's worth, Gator Clause believes Harvin would make a great addition to the Dolphins' line-up.

I've always admired Armando, until now. Clearly his UM homerism is shining through. Hey Armi, go talk to Urbans players or his players families or opposing coaches and ask their opinion onUrban They all say the same thing and you know what that is. You probably shouldn't bae your opinion of Urban on Randy"throw my guys under the bus" Shannon's take. Please just rot away on that sorry Around The Horn with that blowhard Mariotti.

Regards,

Lift

Jo, I hate to admit it, but I agree w/ Armando. While I absolutley love Percy, I have serious doubts about him at the next level. His size and susceptibility to injuries raise a big red flag. Now, he could be the next Santana Moss, but unfortuately, it looks like Percy will be the next Peter Warrick!!

I hate to admit it too, but I KIND OF agree with Salguero. First, let me say that I hate reading Salguero think he is a huge UM homer and STEALS the topics of his blog posts from Miami Dolphins fan sites across the Internet.

Now, I will continue...

Percy's injury issues would lead me to not draft him if I had a top 15 pick, especially if Crabtree and/or Maclin are still available. Doesn't mean I don't like him, doesn't mean I don't think he'll have a good NFL career. I just would not risk such a high pick drafting a guy that has never been truly 100% healthy in college.

I have to believe Tebow was not listed because it is widely (and correctly) believed he will not come out after this season. Those projections are based on not only the talent of the players, but who THEY THINK will declare. If that's not the case, and they just don't think he'd be a first round talent, THEY'RE INSANE.

I think Percy will prove much more durable when he doesn't have to take snaps out of the backfield all the time. And it's not like he's some smallish wide receiver. The guy says he can bench over 400 pounds.

-jo-

True, but he's not right now...and when you're discussing draft status and these guys dropping money and long-term commitments on a player...injury risk matters.

ALSO, Percy was still the No. 3 receiver on that list...he was just the 22nd overall talent. Nothing wrong with that. Some great guys on there.

I REALLY hope the Dolphins get Vonte Davis.

So could David Boston and look what happened to him!

You do raise a good point though about only being a WR at the next level.

Another thing I'm concerned about, and maybe you could shed some light on it based on your previous dealings w/ him, is his attitude and how it may translate in the NFL. He's such a gifted athlete, but I'm concerned about when he won't be the best on the block for the 1st time.

Percy probably shouldn't be drafted ahead of Crabtree and Maclin but Spikes below Laurinaitis?

-jo-

J,

Sorry. Not taking the bait on that one. There's no way for me to project Harvin's attitude once he leaves UF. To Harvin's credit, Meyer always refers to Harvin as one of UF's most competitive players. And Harvin did bulk up so he could help out the team at running back. You could spin that as evidence of Harvin being "a team player."

Harvin still considers himself a receiver but he has helped the team out at running back even if that means putting himself at risk of injuries. That's just something to think about. Also, it's probably better that Percy enters the NFL with a little chip on his shoulder and something to prove. It's a tough league and the best players always compete with an edge. I feel confident in calling Harvin an edgy person.

-jo-

Jo, you read my mind. Laurinaitis is nowhere near as athletic, physical and aggressive as Spikes. Spikes can really move sideline to sideline and lays the boom. When he blitzes he knocks back O-Linemen.

Just playing devil's advocate here but Spikes didn't look too fast trying to cover those crossing patterns against Arkansas. Of course, he did return a 52-yard interception for a touchdown against LSU.

-jo-

I like Spikes, but I'm not sold on him as far as the NFL goes yet. I'd much rather have Rey M. or George Sevile (yes, I know he's a DE, but I think he could stand up in a 3-4 also...)

As I said, Percival is great, but he's the No. 3 receiver at best if he comes out.

It should be noted that Scouts Inc. does not project any Miami Hurricanes in the first round. All good things must come to an end.

Tebow - I have a hard time believing that he isn't a 1st round pick. I think the reason he isn't is due to the style of offense Florida runs. Sam, Matt and Mark play in predominantly pro style offenses that cater's to the NFL. I'm a Dolphin fan and I know I would like to see Tebow in a Fins uniform. Great player but even better person!

I think Spikes will be a great player in the pro's, he has the natural ability to get to the ball.

Harvin - Can't comment. That foot injury seems to be a problem and he reminds me of a bigger Rocket Ismal (spell). Don't think he can play RB in the pro's but who knows?

Ole Miss with 2 people in the top 20 and the Miami Hurricanes with 0 in the top 32.
Alabama with 2 in the top 9.

For the Dolphins it would be nice to have a big WR like a Crabtree.

I am sold on Sam Bradford though and think he is the best QB in college football. Big guy, accurate, and an NFL type QB.

As far as Armando I do agree with him about Percy's injuries and that he is rather smallish for a WR. If he can stay healthy, and that is a big IF, he can and will be successful in the NFL.

However Armando is off on Urban Meyer. Urban Meyer is probably one of if not the best coach in college football. He is an amazing big game coach. Whether he likes him personally or not, I dont care but as a coach he is incredible.

I can tell you a coach who is overrated, Pete Carroll. He is not a very good X and O coach and a horrible game manager. Now recruiting he is up there as the best but as a coach he is very overrated. With the talent Pete Carroll has and the conference they play in, they should be cleaning up and playing in the title game every single year.

Agreed, CC.

For the Dolphins, while we're on the subject, I want Vonte Davis. If not, Maclin or Crabtree will do just fine.

I am pretty confident that Crabtree is a 2nd year Sophomore. Not sure when he graduated high school but if he is a true Sophomore he cannot go pro. EIther I am wrong or ESPN is wrong. And I like my chances! Armando is a twit. I love how adamantly he mouthed off over and over that the Dolphins would go 10-6 last year - instead they go 1-15. If I use that as a barometer as to how much he knows football (horribly predicting the record of a team in his home town and probably covers) then I consider him a moron on the subject and his opinion on Meyer and any other football subject are meaningless.

Crabtree is a red shirt sophomore.

Crabtree is a red shirt sophomore. Just like Channing Crowder was.

Jo, I think he was just out of position and was taken off guard on how fast/talented that Arky back really is (like a lot of other teams). The real test will be if he can slow (very hard to stop completely) Moreno when we play UGA. I know that he personally took a lot of the blame for last year’s loss to them so look for him to play lights out.

Teabow in the first round? Yeah right! He will get murdered in the NFL with that style of play! Speaking ot Teabag, what excactly are you Turds gonna do when he does leave? Who will be the qb afterwards? The ship is sinking fast. Grant it, your winning right now but your return to mediocrity is just ahead. VAULT IT!

Tebow - Not going in the 1st round, look at him all he is able to do is run up the middle! Maybe he could be a MLB.

Pete C. not being a good coach is like calling coffee white! He is a great coach, much better than U.M. U.M. won with Zooks players then lost 4 games, and probably will lose 2 or 3 this year. Who cares about the conference, most teams would rather play in a week conference if it ment they could win the BCS-C every year.

Who has played a tougher schedule, Gators or Trojans? The Gators have, but who is ranked above the other? USC

1. Tebow will go in the first round.

2. All he can do is run up the middle? Most of his big yardage runs are to the outside. He also threw for 3,286 and 32 TDs last year. But yeah, all he can do is run up the middle.

3. U.M. may have won with some of Zook's players, but the addition of Tebow and Harvin were what propelled the 06 team to the title. Harvin dominated in that SEC Championship game.

4. U.M. lost 4 the next season (last year) because we lost 9 defensive starters. The offense was on all cylinders basically all season and the majority of our losses came because of the defense (see LSU converting 5 4th down conversions on one drive.)

5. Who cares about conference? The BCS does. Most teams would rather play in a weAk (you spell it with an A) conference to go right to the BCS...but then they loose (see Ohio State).

6. USC will not be ranked above the Gators if they finish 12-1 through the SEC championship, IMO.

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT before talking crap. Loser.

ATENTION ALL WOULD-BE FLORIDA RECRUITS, ASK YOURSELVES THIS ONE QUESTION;

WHO WILL BE THE STARTING QB WHEN TEABOW LEAVES? OFFENSIVE RECRUITS, U REALLY NEED TO TAKE THAT IN CONSIDERATION BEFORE U MAKE YOUR DECISION! LET'S BE REAL, THE GAYTORS ARE NOTHING WITHOUT TEABOW, AND HE ONLY HAS ONE MORE YEAR, AFTER THAT UF WILL BE IN LIMBO! U WILL FIND YOURSELVES CALLING UP KING SHANNON BEGGING FOR A SPOT LIKE DEONTE THOMPSON AND THAT FRANKIE HAMMOND KID DID OVER THE PAST TWO SEASONS. AND IT'S FUNNY HOW YOUR COACH JUST SITS BACK AND WAIT TO SEE WHO SHANNON & COMPANY OFFER A SCHOLY TO THEN HE COMES CALLING AFTERWARDS. WELL LET ME TELL YOU MY GATOR CHUMS, THAT IS ABOUT TO COME TO A SCREACHING HALT, CAUSE EVEN STEVIE WONDER CAN SEE WHAT THE U IS BUILDING AS WELL AS FSU, WHICH MEANS UF WILL GO BACK TO BEING WHAT IT ALWAYS WAS, THE U & FSU'S WARMUP! YOUR RETURN TO MEDIOCRITY IS APPROACHING FAST, VAULT IT!

LOL, I correct his spelling of "week" as "weak" and then spell "lose" "loose." Typo self-noted.

Typing in all-caps is the best way to get your point across. It's really lends credence to your argument and not your annoying way of trying to stand out. Your team is garbage. Talk crap when you can back it up.

Adam S.

I DON'T HAVE TO TELL U 5 RINGS ARE BETTER THAN 2, U ALREADY KNOW! HOW'S THAT FOR BACKING UP TALK?!

5 rings are better than 2 is Canesrule 9 'ships . Same loser, different posting name. He doesn't seem bitter though. I thought you were going to start taking the high road C9S? Typing in caps doesn't mask your basic obsession with hating on UF. U try soo hard to hide your rants but it still comes through as the bitter small man that U are.

LIke I've said before, IN 2008 those rings and a dollar will get you a double cheeseburger at MickeyD's. Sadly, it's all bitter cane fan has to cling to.

FIVE RINGS BABY. FIVE RINGS !! blahblah blah.

how about this...UNRANKED FOR 3 STRAIGHT YEARS BABY !! UNRANKED FOR 3 STRAIGHT YEARS !!

RECRUITS...THE LOCKOUT...NORTHWESTERN...blah blah blah....RANDY...blah blah blah.....THE SWAGGER...blah blah blah...

Overrated recruits, bumbling idiot coach. Swagger? What's that?

Enjoy watching duh U on the internets. (still buffering for entire game) UF will enjoy viewing the dismantling of the Mildcats on a national network in a regional broadcast.

I hope UF was able to put that broken trophy of yours back together cause that's the last one U will see for awhile! lol

U guys actaully believe your gonna win the nc this year after getting stomped by OLE MISS? Come on now, OLE MISS?! You expect to compete with the likes of Texas, USC and Oklahoma after getting beat down by OLE MISS? U struggled against Arkansas, U had to cheat the U to beat the U ( the youngest team in the country) and from the looks of things LSU is seriously overrated just like the S.E.C. Ask yourselves... Where would the S.E.C. be without Ohio State? Roll Tide!!!

Keep living in the past, Canes fans.

Since when did we get stomped by Ole Miss? We lost by 1 to a conference opponent because of a blocked extra point.

We had to cheat to beat Miami? PUH-lease. Stop being salty.

BTW, our team on the field was younger than yours...it's a fact.

Keep hating...that's all Canes fans are good at anymore...certainly not winning.

Keep struggling against Duke and UCF...that'll really get you out of the BOTTOM of the WEAKEST BCS conference in the nation.

HOW'S THAT FOR BACKING UP TALK?! canesrule 9 ships

Great job. Because that's precisely what it is. TALK. Just like the hype that formerly surrounded your sad 08 team TALK. Just like the whopper predictions of 8-4 or even 9-3 in 08. TALK ! That's all DuhU is. TALK !
Lets TALK about the rankings. Lets TALK about where your offense ranks nationally. Let's talk about duhU's pathetic home game attendance. This is where you get very QUIET. Aside from that it's nothing but TALK!

ALL TALK no ACTION

We'll throw U a bone and ask you to TALK when you win the lowly ACC Coastal Division. Until then, keep QUIET because you are nothing but TALK !

MV,

I think your hunch is correct. Spikes wants to play the game of his life against Georgia. With UGA's troubles at O-line, Spikes will have his shots at Moreno.

-jo-

Nebraska has some rings too. Why don't you go ring ring them, and have fun together, so you reminisce:)?

I never ever hear Gator Nation yambering on and on about the 2 national titles, 7 SEC titles, and nearly impossible back to back double hoops titles. UF fans prefer to take the intelligent route and focus on the task at hand. This is a concept that duhU fan is completely clueless on.

When there is nothing to talk about, carry on for MONTHS about "FIVE RINGS BABY !" U just look like a sad fool C9S. It's just a sad commentary on how completely irrelevant duhU has become. "When it becomes evidently clear that we are inferior we'll just holler about the past."

SAD

Florida fans don't talk about the past cause you don't have one. How does it feel knowing that the only time U guys are up is when The U is down? Your first title came when Miami was on probation. Thanks to bad recruiting from Coker U were able to win your second title with Ron Zook players. Oh yeah, Paul, The U won 3 of it's 5 titles against Nebraska dip-stick. U talk about Miami's past as if their last title came in the 50's or something. We all know history repeats itself and judging by our history we will be back dominating in no time. Oh yeah, remember how bad our mediocre basketball team beat the hell outta ya'll championship team? Canes fans already know UF fans are going to blow up all the UM blogs if we don't have a first round selection. I can see it now, haha your first round streak stopped at 14 years hahaha. That's just like laughing at a lotto winner for only winning a million dollars. lol

Hey all about the excuse, GOT FIVE?

The championship games were in the past but the actual championships are still current. Which is why I ask the question, "GOT FIVE?" HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Paul, remember what happened the last time Florida played Nebraska? HAHAHAHA! REMINISCE ON THAT! HAHAHA

HEY FLORIDA FANS;

EVER NOTICE WHEN THE TOPIC OF THE GREATEST FOOTBALL PROGRAMS IN NCAA HISTORY IS BROUGHT UP THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IS NEVER MENTIONED? HAHAHA!

KEEP IN MIND TURD FANS, UF DROPPED THE U OFF THE SCHEDULE CAUSE THEY COULD'NT COMPETE ANYMORE, NOW U FINALLY BEAT US IN 20 YRS AND NOW U TRUST TO TALK SMACK! GET REAL AND GET A LIFE, OR BETTER YET, ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP! HAHAHA!

Clearly "5 rings are better than 2" is an avid cane fan as well as grad. I dare even say medical school graduate. He brings insightful, thought provoking, factual, and intelluctual conversations to the gator blog that brings sure enjoyment to all gator fans.

Points for "5 rings are better than 2"

*UF was founded in 1905, clearly there must be some history there?

*The University of Florida athletics program finished sixth in the 2007-08 Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings, marking the 25th consecutive year the Gator program has ranked among the nation's top 10 in all-sports standings

* We can't compete with the likes of USC?(one loss to oregon state?) Hmmmm

What time is your shift at McD's today, little 5 rings are better than 2?

Hey geniuses, we're not the ones talking smack. You're the ones coming on here trying to jam "history" down our throat. Fact of the matter is, it is time for you to LIVE IN THE PRESENT. In the past UF may have not wanted to play UM (we didn't drop them from our schedules, it has not been an annual game in decades) but when the most recent chance came up to do multiple games, IT WAS UM WHO REFUSED AND WANTED THEM SPACED OUT! That's right, IT WAS UM!

Once again, get your facts straight before you come talking trash. We don't care about "5 titles," we'll be there soon enough while you are still paddling around the bottom of the ACC trying to figure out a way to win games against Duke and UCF.

We LOOK TO THE FUTURE because WE HAVE A FUTURE...unlike the ComplANES.

type in caps all day long canesrule 9 chips in drag. You can't hide yourself fool. U are so sadly stuck in the past that it's cute. Maybe you'll sniff the top 25 in 09. Probably not.

U have nothing to talk about except the DISTANT past. THATs it.

You're just a sad jealous loser. Enjoy getting tooled by WAKE. Enjoy having the worst coach in all of D-1. Enjoy watching on ESPNU...if you get it (not likely) You're team is sooo bad that opposing fans feel sorry for U.

KEEP LLIVING IN THE PAST FOOL..ITS ALL UUU HAVE

25 dollars to park your car???

is there any way around this?

Only if you want to walk miles or risk getting towed at the trailer trash mall across the street. Or you could watch on ESPNU...nevermind...NO ONE gets ESPN-DUH-U. You could watch it on the intertubes(doesn't work...buffers for hours)

face it. as a U fan, not only have you lost your beloved Urine Bowl. But you are also committed to getting bent over by Wayne now. How's that feel?

The erosion continues in small but measurable ways.

IT"S OVA

Bottom line: Miami will be back but for now they're not very good. All I'm saying, good thing the 'Canes don't have to play FIU this season.

-jo-

To TX Cane: the last thing I want to see in a Dolphin uniform is Tebow, that is all we need another quarterback that can't throw. Although great throw to Harvin today I have to admit.

To all the other Cane fans, YES 5 IS BETTER THAN 2, but present is also better than the past, I live today. Are you kidding me with what are we going to do when Tebow leaves, do you see the talent that come in year after year? We will be just fine, we will be reloading not rebuiling something you guys use to do
