LIVE BLOG! Florida 29, Kentucky 22

Season finale time. Only one team survives ...

[OK, here's the deal with the live blog. I'll usually update something after every timeout or when anything unusual or bizarre happens. Check back frequently.]

GAINESVILLE -- Great play by Nick Calathes and Ray Shipman to end the half. With time ticking off the Tyuswerner clock, Calathes hit Shipman with a backdoor cut and Shipman converted the bucket with a reverse lay-up, his second of the half. Florida leading Kentucky 29-22 at halftime.

[PICTURED, Don't judge Dan Werner and Alex Tyus for who they are.]

3-0-5 in the house. Ray Shipman dives and forces a turnover with 1:39 left in the first half. Shipman has two points (reverse lay-up) and is playing solid defensively. UK's Jodie Meeks is shooting 3 of 9 from the field and 0 of 3 from three-point range. UF 25, UK 18, 1:30.

[Random observation: 9-5-4 in the house. Kenny Boynton Jr. and his family is sitting behind the Florida bench.]

Kentucky is shooting 8 of 26 from the field, led by Patrick Patterson's 4 of 13. Sheesh. UF 23, UK 16, 2:52. Patterson is missing lay-ups like a fat kid misses cake.

--The Rowdy Reptiles are screaming, "Thunder Dan!" to ACDC during the timeout with 5:21 left. Why the nod, Werner just broke a six-minute scoring drought when Werner swished a three with 5:50 left in the first half. Werner then blocked Pattrerson on the defensvie glass, ran the floor and dished a no look pass to Alex Tyus for a dunk. UF 23, UK 14, 4:00.

--It's getting ugly here at the O'Dome. UF and UK just combined for four consecutive turnovers. Florida has gone nearly five minutes without scoring and the Gators are still leading UK 18-12 (7:29).

Florida appears to be finally playing with the type of urgency they have been talking about for two weeks. Kenny Kadji is fighting for every offensive rebound and the Gators' shooters are 4 of 5 from three-point range. UF 18, UK 10, 11:16

--Hodge made his second three-pointer of the game with 12:20 left in the first half. He then stripped UK's Darius Miller on the next possession when Miller was going up for what looked like an easy dunk.

[Random observation: Jodie Meeks cut to the basket for two points and Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley nearly came unglued. He leaned over press row and screamed, "Come on, Alex." Alex Tyus was defending on the play.]

Gators are shooting the lights out early. Dan Werner, Walter Hodge and Nick Calathes all made three-pointers during the games first four mintues. Meanwhile, Kentucky's offense doesn't look very organized. UF 11, UK 6. Calathes absorbed a charge by UK's Darius Miller with 14:58 left.

Three first half observations:

1) We look terrible.

2) Kentucky looks worse.

3) We are lucky Patterson struggled early on, or this game would be tied. Once again, no inside presence.

As a Fla taxpayer I am completely appalled

Susan,

Wrong university. That would be Florida State.
