Plus position changes, a complete spring practice schedule and, of course, a few thoughts of my own.
GAINESVILLE -- The University of Florida released its official spring football guide on Wednesday. Practice begins on March 25. Listed among the information was the players who will either miss spring ball with injuries or be limited.
LIMITED: DE Carlos Dunlap (abdomen strain), DT Terron Sanders (left calf), OL Jim Barrie (right knee), LB Brandon Beal (left knee), OL Carl Johnson (right knee), OL James Wilson (feet), Marquis Hannah (left knee), Zach O'Quinn (right shoulder), Glenn Watson (right knee) and William Steinman (left knee).
OUT: DT Brandon Antwine (right knee), LB Brandon Hicks (right shoulder), LB Chris Pintado (right shoulder), OG Mike Pouncey (left shoulder), WR Omarius Hines (thighs), RB Brandon James (right foot), WR Joey Sorrentino (left knee), WR Cody Worton (left wrist, left knee).
[PICTURED, OG Mike Pouncey will miss spring practice.]
CHANGING POSITIONS: Vincent Brown from cornerback to running back; John Fairbanks from defensive line to long snapper; Marquis Hannah from defensive back to running back ; Ean McQuay from running back to defensive back; Matt Patchan from defensive line to offensive line; Scott Peek from defensive back to fullback/tight end; Michael Ross from linebacker to fullback/tight end; Christopher Scott from running back to defensive back; Joey Sorrentino from defensive back to wide receiver; Justin Williams from safety to wide receiver.
A FEW THOUGHTS: With defensive tackles John Brown and Torrey Davis off the team, defensive tackle Brandon Antwine out with an injury and defensive tackle Terron Sanders limited with an injury, who's left to play on the interior defensive line? Lawrence Marsh (returning starter), sophomore Omar Hunter, freshman Gary Brown, JUCO transfer Edwin Herbert and junior Troy Epps will have plenty of opportunities this spring.
--With guards Mike Pouncey, James Wilson and Carl Johnson either limited or out of spring practice, Maurice Hurt and Sam Robey will have a chance to work their way into the starting line-up for the spring game.
--Matt Patchan is moving back to offensive line. Will he win the battle at left tackle? The starting offensive line looks like this: RT Marcus Gilbert, RG Mike Pouncey; C Maurkice Pouncey; LG Carl Johnson; LT Up for grabs. Patchan could win the open tackle position this spring or offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Steve Addazio could move some players around. Carl Johnson could move to left tackle and either James Wilson or Mo Hurt could start at left guard. Of course, there are other possibilities as well.
[PICTURED, Will Matt Patchan become a starter?]
--Justin Williams is moving back to wide receiver after filling in for a year at safety. What a team player, right? It would be nice to see Williams work his way onto the field this spring. It seems like he deserves it.

Did I miss something - what happened to Davis and Brown?!?

Off the team.

Why are Davis and Brown off the team?
Posted by: Frank d | March 18, 2009 at 08:22 PM
Torrey Davis quit, according to UF. Brown is transferring, according to Meyer. Translation: Davis was kicked off the team for breaking "team rules" and Brown is failing out.

I didn't know that Gary Brown was enrolled
What is up with Hines' thighs and James Wilson's feet?

I kind of though Davis was failing out, not breaking rules?

Oh, sorry. You're right. Gary Brown comes in this summer. Just looking ahead, I guess. As for Hines and Wilson, sounds fishy.

This is a good opportunity for starters to showcase their talent.
