Donovan to recruit: Calathes likely gone

GAINESVILLE -- There's a report on SI.com that UF coach Billy Donovan told North Carolina super-recruit John Wall that Gators' point guard Nick Calathes is likely finished at the collegiate level.

Is this just savvy recruiting by Donovan or is Calathes really gone?

Florida is two scholarships under the cap (13) at the moment and Donovan is desperately trying to fill one of the slots with a point guard. College basketball's spring signing period began this week and ends in mid-May. UF needs another point guard regardless if Calathes is staying at Florida or attempting to turn pro -- some think entering the draft this year is a mistake. If Calathes is in fact foregoing his senior season, then Florida definitely needs another ball handler.

Wall would be a great addition. He has been compared to Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose. Can UF actually land Wall, who is considered the nation's No.1 recruit? We'll find out soon. I'm off to the basketball facility in 10 minutes for a press conference with Donovan at 9:15 a.m. The press conference was only announced yesterday afternoon, so the timing is interesting to say the least.

This blog will be updated with fresh info by mid-morning. In the meantime, read my story on Tim Tebow in today's paper.

Wow. Does Donovan push all these guys buttons? Who will replace Tyus' minutes?
