GAINESVILLE -- The University of Florida confirmed on Tuesday morning that receiver Stephen Alli of Andover (N.H.) Proctor Academy has been accepted to the University of Florida.
A Florida commitment since earlier this summer, Alli was originally scheduled to graduate high school in 2010. But the 6-5 receiver, who chose Florida over Harvard, apparently had enough high school credits to graduate a year in advance. He's expected to be in Gainesville today.
Football practice begins on Thursday but it's unclear whether or not Alli will participate immediately. While Florida has accepted him, Alli's paperwork still must pass through the NCAA Clearinghouse. It shouldn't be a problem. Alli graduated from a prestigous prep school with a 3.7 GPA.
An interesting side note: Andover (N.H.) Proctor Academy [PICTURED] seems like a pretty elite high school. Check out the website. Apparently the school is located on a 3,000-acre campus at the base of a mountain. Map of Proctor campus. From the website: "To the south of campus, our private ski area, The Blackwater, offers groomed, man-made snow, Yarrow's Lodge and the Norris Ski Jumps."
Alli is a native of Toronto. On Tuesday morning, he updated his Facebook.com status with an announcement: "#89 reporting to Gainesville. Peace Canada."
