Spikes suspended for first half against Vanderbilt

UPDATE TO THIS STORY! Here's a link to my breaking news story about the Spikes suspension with quotes from the SEC. It's been up for about four hours now but here's the link all the same. LINK!

GAINESVILLE -- Brandon Spikes released this statement through the University of Florida sports information department on Monday regarding his show of unsportsmanlike behavior on Saturday.

"I accept responsibility for my actions and I accept the consequences of my actions," Spikes said. "I would like to apologize to my team and the coaching staff and Washaun Ealey. Football is a very physical and emotional game, but there is no excuse for my actions."

(EARLIER) UF linebacker Brandon Spikes will miss the first half of the Vandy game on Saturday for his eye-gouging attempt on Georgia's Washaun Ealey. The YouTube videos of this keep getting taken down, but check out this view while you still can: LINK

Pretty dirty play by Spikes, and kudos to Urban Meyer for stepping in. This kind of stuff happens in football, but you can't get caught doing it.
